Audio Technica M50X

Wanted to buy my first pair of good headphones and everyone is suggesting these. Are they good or just a meme? My maximum budget is 150$

i have the m40x and i like them

they're good.. frequencies 4k+ are bit too sharp though

They're memed because they ARE good and it's just what everyone buys.

Among the best for their price.

this
i have a pair, and i do enjoy them. i use them alot for their original purpose though, which is monitoring while playing. but they are reasonable for listening to music, though if you can i'd either get some decent speakers or open backs instead

it's a huge marketing ploy by audiotechnica. They're not great. M40Xs are what you want.

get them only if they cost less than $50-60. take the first offer from fidelio x2 amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00O2Y2MZG/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all

They are excellent, but the funny thing is the M20x has been getting similar reviews since it came out and it's only a third the price of the M50x. They're also light, very comfortable, have surprising midrange and I've heard more frequency issues with the 50 than the 20.

Really worth the price if you can get them for under $120 on sale etc. There are better headphones if you have money, but there are the best around the $150 mark

I've been using them for years and they still give me mad headphone fatigue, even more than usual nowadays.

I think I need to upgrade

Thoughts on Sennheiser 558?

>M40Xs are what you want.
what's the difference?

go to Sup Forums to theadphone general for actual advice

Don't. They just recommend headphone amps no matter the impedance of the cans.

I've had them for more than a year now, and I like them a lot, though I am probably considered a headphone novice.

They are great for "sharp" or metallic music, but if you plan to listen to mostly jazz, classical, or folk, you should probably choose something else.

I have the m40x's and they are a fucking meme.

They start to hurt after wearing them for a while and the sound starts to distort on higher volumes.

Other then that they sound fine. Admittedly I don't know what "fine" sounds like since these are the best headphones I've ever had.

they are uncomfortable especially if you wear glasses

Exactly, don't know why reviewers claim these headphones are so comfortable when my ears start to fucking bleed just from a couple hours use.

If you're okay with open-back headphones, I would recommend the HD 558's over these any day. They sound better and are about 5 billion times more comfortable to wear.

They're a little lower on the bass, if that is a dealbreaker to you.

I need closed headphones though

if you're into v-shaped sound then it's okay i guess
if you're looking for neutrality though (what these advertise themselves as) then look elsewhere
look towards the m40x's or the srh840's from shure

Beyer DT150

If you're just using them for home use, the DT770 is better due to very similar sound signature but with way better comfort and soundstage. If you don't desperately need the isolation then I would recommend that you look into open headphones, though.

The m50x are actually pretty good as a portable full size headphone imho, but I've also never heard the 40x which very well would probably serve the same function.

watch this before buying them. I have a pair myself, unfortunately I agree with him. youtube.com/watch?v=7UrKy1EuO0k

They're both. The only complaint is that after about 4 hours of use they can feel a bit uncomfortable. If you like to binge listen like me then you should take them off every 3-4 hours or so for about 5 minutes. Get the one with a detachable cable/small cable because carrying around that long ass cable is annoying.

Exaggereted review. He has some points but he hates them like they were trah. They're still great headphones

>Are they good or just a meme?
Depends on what you're looking for.

If you want something for home use, DT770s are better. Open headphones are the best for home though. If you want something portable, MSR7 are good. M100s are okay if you like bass

I'd only rec m50x if you don't want something neutral, want cheap, and you want something portable most of all. Much better options than m50s. If you're locked on audio tech, just get m40

they're not the best, but they're def the best for the price. I use them for music production cause they've got a great flat sound. That being said, they're not hi-fi by any means. That also being said, they still BTFO dre beats.
