Swans, Death Grips, Radiohead or HANL

I miss 2010 where people were literally hysterical about some lo-fi rapper saying "faggot" and using the most cliché MF DOOM rhyme schemes imaginable and him being hailed as the second coming of Christ. People were easily impressed in those days.

But people are still circle jerking Earl

That's because he's an exceptional lyricist and has a devoted fanbase, Earl's not on that same bullshit that he was in 2011, that's why he's still relevant.

In Utero or Pinkerton

Depressing and relatable to teens

>All the people brushing Catcher In The Rye off as some crappy high school book. Get some taste

I bet you've read less than ten books in your life and your favourite books are 1984 and The Stranger

It's the Naruto of American lit....

...

>plebs love it
>contrarians think it's shit and made for high school kids
>patricians like it

catcher in the rye is garbage dude just accept it

America has amazing literature, but all your highschool essential are fucking garbage.

>these completely unsubstantiated opinions
either actually criticize Catcher or GTFO. I am a Lit. Ph.D. so I will be monitoring closely. (Advice: disliking the book because you dislike Holden is childish, like Holden)

>provide a full dissertation to an anonymous stranger on the internet who claims to have a phd to justify not enjoying something as infantile as catcher in the rye

sorry professor i'm on spring break

>criticize Catcher or GTFO
Well since you're on a first name basis with it I will try to go easy to soothe your emotional attachment to an inanimate object because above all else I have humility
For starters, Catcher in the Rye is as much of a debilitating and pointless experience as it portrays itself to be and reading it past the age of adolesence can be a genuinely grueling and agonizing experience

>Catcher in the Rye is as much of a debilitating and pointless experience as it portrays itself to be and reading it past the age of adolesence can be a genuinely grueling and agonizing experience

You provided a conclusion without any supporting details. Go back to elementary school, or pony up.

I haven't even begun my dissertation...

>Catcher in the Rye is as much of a debilitating and pointless experience as it portrays itself to be and reading it past the age of adolesence can be a genuinely grueling and agonizing experience
are you satirizing something, or what? you've only attempted to insult me, and then averred that you didn't enjoy reading it. i already knew that

lol

>Go back to elementary school, or pony up.

Also the ground rules are not your faggot-ass college professor objectivity, stop the posturing or you will unleash the beast and it's not going to be pretty.

>let me just repeat myself to assert the further importance of what I am saying
Your white guy tactics have no power here

Fuck, you're boring.

>Go back to elementary school, or pony up.

you're a woolyheaded fag who has probably never read a book closely in his life. do your worst

reported

Not even ten minutes have passed and I have already won the argument. So much for your Ph.D.

>Fuck, you're boring.

fucking die

continue to listen to death grips play video games watch pornography and attempt to read DFW or something every six months until you die and are forgotten

Final reply of good grace and sportsmanship. My prowess is reducing an honest to goodness teacher of literature to a robot, repeating his orders to his intellectual master and overall superior.
Read it and weep folks, you don't get to see this all the time. To all future doctorate canidates, don't do your thesis on something like Salinger like this poor sod, do your thesis on user.

overhyped, average, simplistic piece of work that people think is amazing/deep because it's one of their first ventures into something they think is "non mainstream" even though it is

Swan song reply, final message before departure: Mad as fuck.

I'm not the college fucker. I'm just a guy who pointed out the fact that you provided a conclusion without any supporting details whatsoever, and still aren't providing any. I'm calling you boring because that is what you are: boring; You are unable to articulate your own thoughts so that we may have discourse and learn more about each other and the world we live in. Hence:

>Fuck, you're boring.

I bought this the other day as somebody who barely read many novels. It had a different cover though. Did I make the wrong choice? I got Homer,of mice and men,A Farewell to Arms and V the same date. I am dysptic.

Dyspeptic? Catcher will do you fine. Maybe.

>dysptic.
sorry, what?

it's a good novel, and if you're not much of a reader it will be fairly gentle. Everything you bought is fair to excellent and (except V.) not very difficult

I meant dyslexia.

What is the Blood Meridian of music?

>Earl
>exceptional lyricist

KEK

itaots "I want to keep white roses in their eyes", to be the catcher in the rye. Also themes of pedophilia, catatonia, snow and molestation. Itaots really has it all desu though.

didn't mean to reply

i guess it's only pointless if you're not interested in reading closely or thinking about the book, which is fine but that doesn't make it trash

>mfw this thread
Salinger was one of the most talented writers in moderrn fiction. Franny and Zooey is the best reflection on fame and identity I've read.
Musical acts that could lyrically be compared are Beat Happening or The Brave Little Abacus.

what is the Gravity's Rainbow of music?

You are the most pretentious and unlikable trip on this board. I thought you were a troll at first but recently I think that you are actually just a dick head

My dad actually met J. D. Salinger quite a few times as a kid. Salinger would get gas at the station where my dad worked as an attendant. He said he was very quite and reserved, had a tall and imposing figure, and had two loud dogs in his car most times he stopped. My dad said that his boss specifically told him not to bother Salinger or say anything about his books to him.

yawn

Shitty book, praised for it's edginess only, for it's time. Hate, when reading a good book, they compare it to Salinger one on the review section, as being the one supreme book, that everyone looks up to

cather in the rye isn't edge at all tho, it's just teen angst awerness literally no edge

Catcher in the rye was fine and all, but Salinger has done better work.

#FREE EARL THAT'S THE FUCKING SHIT AND IF YOU DISAGREE SUCK A BUNCH OF PIMPLE COVERED DICKS

you wrote so many words but somehow didn't manage to say anything

This is literally the most pseud attempt at discourse I've ever seen.

Did you guys really think The Catcher in the Rye was that edgy? Turn on the Bright Lights kinda gave me its vibe.

what is the ulysses of music?

Came here just to say this. How the fuck did it take this long?

This to be quite honest with you.

Pierre Boulez - Complete Works Opp 1-31

>complete works
Come on dude, be specific. You're not responding to Joyce's entire oeuvre.

When faggots in this board can't identify simple symbolism used in the book and how it constructs Holden's character. It's a good book, but as someone said earlier, Salinger has better books.
