Headphones are more intimate and detailed

Ambient

speakers remove all of the suble nuances that make ambient albums great

all this sad people ITT that haven't ever heard even a halfways decent speaker system

The Microphones, I find

probably this

i prefer listening to shoegaze with closed backs more than speakers.
open backs could be very nice for that, i gotta get myself a pair someday.

this as well.

I personally love me any progressive electronic with headphones. Be it some ambient-ish Jarre / Schulze or the more dynamic OPN's albums.

Whole album is great, but Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes is great with some decent headphones.

this

audio engineers (aka people whose jobs consist of hearing music accurately) mix on speakers. posts like this are nonsense

ture and true

"open" headphones and speakers (atm beyerdynamic 990) is my fav setup for mixing and recording

So you're implying that every casual listener of music has audio engineer level of speakers?

This argument is retarded.

good speakers like the jbl lsr 305 can be had for less than $300

Lotta fuckin' poorfags ITT

I have both and prefer my dt 770 for certain genres

Except the Beatles in stereo

I listen to these before I go to sleep.

Freezepop

all music except when it has extreme stereo separation, like, when sound moves from left to right and back a lot.

This is objectively true. Phil mixes with headphones.

both this and Take No Prisoners were recorded binaurally and were meant to be listened to with headphones

>tfw listening to the title track on LP or CD with my comfy af open headphones

>binaurally
What?
t. earbud MP3 fag

What's up with all these people saying headphones are better for everything?

Are you telling me that if you lived in a house with no concern of neighbors, you wouldn't pick listening to music on a good speaker setup 9 times out of 10 over headphones?

I sure would.

I have that and stille prefer my headphones at times

I'd still take the headphones, fuck you mean?

>not listening to a day in the life in stereo w/headphones

spare me

Fucking this

How fucking beta can you fags be?

Yes, it does.

they record using a dummy head with a mic in each ear which sounds amazing and gives more of a surround sound type effect with stereo headphones

Why don't more artists do that when possible?

it was a huge thing for e.g. radio plays in the 70-80ies but then people realized it's a fad and doesn't translate at all to other systems, not even with headphones you're guaranteed to get any sort of proper imaging because people's ears (and general HRTF) are just too different in shape so for a lot of people there's either just a minimal benefit or it sounds like complete ass / everything is coming from behind your head and so on
that's why the concept is pretty much dead

I think the best scenario is listening to albums on speakers and headphones. The albums I plan on listening on headphones after listening to them on speakers are Talk Talk's Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock.
