How about "Electronica"?

"EDM"?

This is the only academically accepted term

Make me

How else will I tell normies the genre of music I produce

electronic music

...

The biggest irony is that the garbage Stockhausen peddled can't be called music

That's a cool collection. The liner notes have the graphic notation for Kontakte. Definitely worth getting the physical copy if it's a good price.

>electronic music
>genre of music
is "violin music" a genre of music too? how about "acoustic music"?

can too
and it is, by anyone with a course knowledge in 20th century art music

>The biggest irony is that the garbage Stockhausen peddled can't be called music
Wouldn't you say that the instruments he experimented with and recording technology was in its infancy back then? Luigi Russolo did in the 20's.

This is as groundbreaking and futuristic as it gets.

Both of those are things if they're played solely with an acoustic guitar or a violin

true

the irony is that anyone with actual knowledge in art music won't call it music

>muh twinkly mid western emotional hard-core punk rock
>muh meloldic Norweigen death metal
>muh 3rd wave progressive post-rock

>"electronic"

So The Prodigy aren't electronic music because they have guitarists and a drummer these days?

there are really only three genres

>art music
notated and interpreted by professional musicians
>popular music
recorded once, mass produced as concise units to be marketed and sold
>traditional folk music
preserved through oral tradition and amateur playing at social gatherings

stocky falls under art music

Yes exactly

Right, so it's only electronic music if they ONLY use electronic instruments? What about vocals?

Yeah pretty much
Adding vocals changes the genre

So jungle, d&b, breakcore, vocal trance and grime aren't. Or synthpop. And quite a bit of house.

Just pre-60s then really.

Yes.

Samples aren't vocals if that's what you mean
Electronic music with true vocals isn't electronic music this is an easy concept to grasp

All those have non-sampled vocals so noted, none are electronic music, thanks.

You literally called one of them synthpop which is a genre of its own
At least you're learning even if it's sarcastically

All of them are their own genres, just the same as synthpop though.

Yes that's beside the point
The point is electronic music is also it's own genre

Really because I checked Wikipedia, allmusic, RYM, Grove and last.fm and none say it is, they all say it's just a production method.

electronic music

>electronic music
>electronica
>EDM
yeah I pretty much immediately discard somebody's opinion entirely if they spout any of these

you dumb?

just shut the fuck up nerd no need to embarrass yourself any further
look we all know you´re a fucking geek and want people to use your special safe space words like IDM so that you feel intellectually superior over liking shit music in a dying right wing websites like 4chuun, that doesnt make you one

gross

IDM is a meaningless label.

Techno, house, breaks... they're genres like punk or metal, learn them as the 35 years of music within those genres are varied.

Electronic production is different from "electronic" the genre

The type of people who hate the term "electronic music" almost always hate "IDM" too

>IDM
yeah I pretty much immediately discard somebody's opinion entirely if they spout this

I will say electronic and dance to post african repetitions as much as I want. Thank you very much, Dj stocky.

But nowhere on the internet says electronic is a genre. Can you link somewhere that does?

Discogs

Aren't an authority on anything, it's just a database

so aphex twin is intellectual huh? smart dance? you´re gonna tip fedoras in the audience while discussing j.k. rowling books or just get shitfaced like everyone else?

So you're telling me that the website in charge of sorting albums into genres for easy access to consumers isn't responsible for correctly labeling albums?
Next you're going to be telling me musicians shouldn't produce their own music because that's the producers job

it intentionally "didnt make sense"
he was experimenting with new tech and laying ground for future development

A random database is not an authority on anything more than r/music is.

It's not random it's a self-sustaining internet trading/collecting forum
And it has more authority than a bunch of dumb teens on a music rating site

Reddit has more credibility though, the richest man in the world did an AMA just the other day. More credible than a bunch of vinyl collecting hipsters.

Reddit thinks electronic is a genre

Both are retarded

What? I thought Reddit was a good source cause they got some rich guy
Make up your mind

>techtronica

I can't be more descriptive than that
