Prior military with the 82nd Airborne as a 13F. 2-504 B/A Company

Got out as a E-5 in 2015, Recently Divorced, Realizing that civilian life sucks and don't feel a purpose anymore.

Considering the French Foreign Legion for a why the fuck not experience.

Is it worth it now a days?

Pic related, it's me.

No.

Basically you'd make more transferring to a Commonwealth military. Canada or Australia are both good options for ex US servicemen. The pay is better. The hours are better. The human rights are better.

I've had a lot of dealings with ex FFL guys, both online and in mercenary environments. There's quite literally no reason for a human to join them unless you're coming from a third world country where the FFL is a step up.

Source: Ex Australian Army now working for a private security firm.

Thanks for the advice brother, What do you think about New Zealand prior US Vet program they have?

What this guy said, from my sources FFL is basically cannon fodder (more so than any other 1st world military). Mainly used to open doors for 3rd worlders looking for a better life.

Source: Fat neck beard unfit for military service so spends all day reading about military's.

Fair enough I suppose. They have just always caught my attention. Thanks for the input user.

I'd rather a military that's able to deploy a battalion or two. You know the Aussies are going to invade Papua New Guinea in a few years. You know Canada is going to follow the US into the Middle East in a few years. You know NZ is going to be gay indefinitely.

I'd rather go somewhere where the capabilities are at least deployable.

Do you have over 300 confirmed kills?

Not OP, I'm this guy. Fortunately I had the opportunity to kill an Afghani. Still the best moment of my professional career. I never got to go up and check out the body though. That's the worst part.

Hah, I wish. Unfortunately it's hard to keep track dropping GBU-32 on target. Had quite a few successful call for fires in 2012 and 2014 :). Mostly in Khandhar province.

Do you ever feel out of place in civilian world? I'm quite positive I don't have PTSD but I always feel unsatisfied with everything I do now.

Nah because I'm still partially in the game. I'm in and out of the ME all the time. Mostly the Arab Peninsula, but for a white guy it's pretty much the same as Bagdad: a bunch of insecure brown people who think you're rich.

Sounds like a life to live.

Just been so hard in the last year or so dealing with "life" on the outside. Miss the moon dust everyday. Only thing that keeps me in check is other vets out there to be honest.

Would like to go back in the works of something similar but really don't want to play the fuck fuck games in the Army all over again. Specially the 82 inches of dick.

>You know the Aussies are going to invade Papua New Guinea in a few years.

Whose saying this? The ex-aussie serviceman?

Because I've been thinking we should invade PNG for a couple of months now. It's like my deepest darkest secret.

Strategically, with China stepping up in the area, we need PNG as a sort of buffer or military base. But than how do we get the surrounding islands? And what about the Indonesian half of New Guinnea. That's gonna be a problem. Unless we buy it off them? Maybe create some sort of agreement with them? Lets brainstorm Australia's acquisition of PNG guys. Potentially a good thread in the making.

OP here as usually, You a aussie I'm assuming? Don't know much about the wet-works of Australia and PNG but I can see the deterrence it has to offer for ya'll.

I don't have much to offer in the way of advice but I was in the Australian army for a number of years.

Ask away if you're curious. I'll lurk.

OP, Do you guys have a good US Vet program to enter? If so have you worked with them? Also curious about how the Aussie army is compared to the US in terms of discipline.

Only reason I ask is because since I gotten out, The army has been a shit show of social agenda lately.

Join the National Guard, get a real job, rebuild your life again and MAGA

Considered, but the NG is way to slow speed. Worked with a few and they always got fucked up due to lack of proper training and discipline.

I'm the guy you're replying to.

Basically PNG is a strategic non-issue. But it's useful to have troops there because, as you say, it's an obvious buffer to any Asian push.

You misunderstand what "invasion" really means though. We won't "invade", we'll dispatch some kind of bullshit "international coalition against sexual violence" and get troops on the ground that way. We'll secure Jackson Airfield, the Port Moresby port facilities and basically have the country under control. We could do this with two companies and an air lift.

Subsequent bullshit like police exchanges, UN enforced political reforms ans such will abound. But everybody who knows, will know that we just did it to deter China and attempt to bring some stability to the shitty region. Also, we might actually stop the sexual violence there which is DEPLORABLY bad. I mean, initiation for some of their Raskal Gangs is to rape a girl. It's fucked. I'd love to go over there and fuck up some rapist gangs man.

Anyway, yeah. It's basically considered a sure thing for most of the ADF and related military guys.

Yeah PNG is essentially the 3rd world version of New Zealand. It has some amazing resources as well.

And PNG seem to love Aussies. I think it would be on the most part a peaceful transition.

Alternatively Australia could/should set up an "Oceanic Union" (inb4 EU, fuck the EU).

That way PNG will be a proxy nation to Australia and it will give us an extra vote in the global political arena.

>Australia: Hey china fuck that silly shit off.
>China: Nah get fucked.
>PNG: Yeah cut that shit out.

Gives us more political power.

Also I'd like for PNG to be the new Bali or Thailand. Cheap place for Aussies to go schoolies/party without getting fucking killed or life imprison over some bullshit. 3rd world economy with 1st world level of Law and Order/ Corruption.

Giving your standings, FFL isn't a good option.

First things first, you have to confide to the French version of the military, learn to speak French, and to use their weapons.

When I did volunteer work guarding private hospitals in Kenya I've had dealings with the FFL. Most I've came in contact to where either from the same shithole I was in, or a European country.

I was a 31B retired as E-5. I got sick of civilian life, I knew a friend who owned a small time security firm in Oregon. He invited me over for some beers one weekend and, the next week I got my Armed Guard Card, if wasn't too glamorous starting out, a lot of boring times.. after a few months I worked Federal sites, mostly small time Social Secuirty offices, a bank and I even got a spot working for the local MEPS.

After a few years, around 07' when I retired I thought there would be no skills that would be good. I never thought about becoming a cop, or even working security.

Anyways, fastforward a few years, the government liked us so much they offered some Dept. of Homeland Security contracts.

After my last year, I started doing private protection. Not the shitty celebrity body guard shit, I'm talking about armed asset protection.

Armed asset protection and private armed contracting is where the money is. Unfortunately most companies don't offer these, they are niche jobs. They pay very well, you don't get dumbass people running through, and you can get great benefits.

Since you're Airborne Infantry, you'll definitely be eligible for some contracting companies, I'm not talking Black Water tier, but moving valuables for rich old men pays the bills.

Don't waste your effort and time joining an organization where you'll be re-deployed into some shithole trying to win "hearts and minds". Especially fighting for someone who's values you don't believe in.

If you have any further questions, please let me know. I'd hate to see the kind of talent like yours go to waste.

OP, I currently live in the TX area, but have family in DC, VA and PA.

What are some good companies to look into? Only ones Iv'e done research is bullshit like Securitas and what not paying at miserable 12$ an hour shit.

Btw, Great advice, really do appreciate it. Glad to know there are some of us out there to help in our darkest time.

Op, get your degree using that awesome post 911

I was in that same situation as you go get your degree and your doors will open trust me

Ya, working on it. Was focusing with Cyber Security but I just suck at school. I'm smart as fuck but I have no passion or intrest what so ever in that bullshit. Pretty much go to school for my GI Bill check every month.

Only thing I was good at was the grunt shit and being a FO.

Anything to help a brother out.

Avoid anything that is unarmed, you won't get more than $13 an hour on a good day.

Pinkerton does mainly armed asset protection, I worked for them up in Seattle transporting 1%ers.

I've never been to Texas so I would have no say on what employment is like. Check with local homeground security groups, or make a flashy resume and send them to online companies.

The best places trequire a bachelors degree.

where you cross trained or went to any special schools while you where in? Special schools, even in the civilian spectrum can help gain employment.

As a comparison, when I was training with the Marines I found the Americans were much stricter in terms of 'rank segregation'. Sergeants wouldn't drink with privates etc etc whilst the Aussies didn't really give a shit. Officers, senior or junior soldiers wasn't really important, but I found that while the Americans listened to rank because they had to, the Australians tended to suggest and converse about issues before sorting orders. While the rank structure is still respected it's more 'relaxed'.

I think the Australian way led to a more happier and relaxed work environment.

I also got paid 3x as much as the Marines, but I didn't have access to steroids like they do.

Went to a few "special" bullshit schools. Certified to fly the Raven, JFO Certified, few other school mostly with satcom and Haris radios.

Unfortunately I was a twat and never really kept record of that shit. So god knows the possibility of getting proof for it all.

I'll check the area out and see. I know that Texas armed certs are pretty easy to get and cheap.

Thanks again, OP.

Never worked with Aussies, mostly Romanians, Mongolians, Italians and the Spanish, they were the same way. Always thought it was a better way to do things. Always built better moral amongst the troops while we drove in madness and shitty moral contemplating suicide because of a dickhead E-6.

Thanks for the info/advice!

Oh ya, Our flux of pro hormones is infinite. ;)

But to be honest, we can't run worth a damn compared to most military's out there.

Dont worry about it, the Army has probably "misplaced" all your paper work anyways.

Texas is very relaxed about Armed security, I think that would be the best place to start.

If you do get into it, get a shitty Armed job and work your way up, it's gonna be a shit job, once you gain experience from it more companies will want you.

also if you know anyone still in you can see if there's any news about the DoD recruiting more private contractors.

hooah butter cup

Thanks again. Will check it out.

Have a good one, best wishes down range.

OP.

No, those french fuckers are downgrades
Was and e6 when i got out, was a army ranger 75th 2nd battalion out of georgia from 92 to 2005, and EVERYTIME we worked with those fucks, shit hit the fan, when i got out civ life was hard for me too, cant even sit at a damn resteraunt without my back to a corner, somalia fucked us all up in 93

>somalia fucked us all up in 93
I am all ears.

Cont'd
Try working for private security jobs for example with AECOM, they dont advertise that they have private security usually, but they do

Mogandeshu man, fuck that place and those skinnies, i was with my squad that was assigned extraction on some nigger then when helos started dropping, the whold damn city of niggers erupted, we secured crash super 61

How do you get into private security?

Best bet is join the military to get the experience then from then on it's about connections and how pretty your resume is.

Truthfully.

What MOS would be my best bet aside from special forces and 11B?
Do you need to have deployed?
>connections
I don't have any, I'm a college dropout who's going to enlist shortly. Or are they connections you make while in the armed forces?

I'm a Brit bong so could someone explain what the classification system is for mos's and what not? What does 11b and 13f and stuff like that even mean?

I accidentally met some guys who were running a Staff College level exercise for the ADF when I was in the Army. I was part of Ex-Con at the time and spent a couple of months through the year working with the contractors on and off. I just made some jokes about switching over and working for them a few times and made sure I didn't seem like a total shit cunt. Towards the end I asked for one dudes email and he basically gave me the whole spiel on how to go about chasing them up for work.

And once I was in I was in. That was more of an analytical job, but I moved around from there into the higher paying stuff in the ME.

I was an intelligence analyst. I'd been deployed a lot and have a knack for talking shit and making easy friends. So it was just a few chance encounters and then I wedged my foot in the door with one guy who liked me. That's all it took. And then I discharged, got a job with his team and have been floating around ever since.

Intel jobs would work well also anything in signal, this is OP btw. Knew a bunch of guys who got a bunch of good jobs working with companies contracted the military for satcom shit.

13F is a Forward Observer, basically the dickhead with the long whip antenna calling in Airstrikes, Mortars and Artillery,

OP

I see, thanks for the info
>intelligence analyst
So you weren't in combat arms?
>Intel jobs
>anything in signal
SIGINT, stuff like that could actually get me a foot in the door?
I thought only Tier 1 operators got job offers. I guess that's a stupid assumption

troll post. you werent in the military OP. i just checked 82nd records

nice try tho. go exercise and get fit and education then try enlisting unless you have medical condition

Deff, and Iv'e worked with ACADEMI (or whatever they fuck they are now, prior blackwater dudes) at the US Consalute in Herat Province, most of the guys weren't even prior combat experience jobs in the military. Most were signal dudes.

What you're missing is camaraderie. That brotherhood. OP I'm a nursefag that works a lot with vets dealing with post deployment issues. My best advice for you is to find a group of fellow vets to maintain that brotherhood with. For some this is as simple as going to weekly group meetings at the VA. For others it's buying a Harley and joining a motorcycle club that is veteran only. Thank you for your service dude. Very sincerely thank you. Life gets better the more actively you live it!

>Most were signal dudes
Why are SIGINT guys so valuable to them?
How do they deal with the fact that they have no combat experience?

>So you weren't in combat arms?

It's not so delineated in the ADF. I was a Combat Team S2, which means I was the intelligence guy on the ground who went around and picked up laptops and shit after we knocked over a compound.

Luckily I had a history in operational theatres that sounded impressive in job interviews.

The numbers designate what kind of job it is; 11 is Infantry, 68 is medical, etc, etc. The letter designates the specific job within the field; 11B is rifleman, 68W is field medic for example.
The final number (which most people don't say) is the rank. 11B0 is for a rifleman trainee, 11B3 is a rifleman Staff Sergeant, etc, etc.

There is no rhyme or reason for each rate (job) gets which number or letter combo, it's just the way it is.

13F is a Fire Support Specialist (aka support to the artillery)

>13F
>Airborne Infantry
Do you even MOS you fucking POG?

OK thanks. So is there like a 10f and a 9f and so on as well? Like, where do the numbers come from? Or is it just random?

except that their training is one of the hardest in the world and that sthey are green berets you may be right. but no forces can prevale on them in dogfight

>I was the intelligence guy on the ground who went around and picked up laptops and shit
Didn't you have an MOS designation?

Cool assumption bro, fuck you too.

OP

Was my dream to be in the Australian military, but assumed foreigners were unwelcome. Not Op.

Anything that could transfer into cash in the real world that's relevant to your interests. For example, a 68c (I believe) gets you your LPN, and means less time in school afterwards if you want to be a nurse. 12 series MOSs are construction related, equipment operator, etc and you could walk into any operator union and start close to $30/hour, if that's your niche. Talk to a recruiter and see what's available first.

You can always sign 4 years and valuables an 11x and fuck shit up then when your contract comes up reclassified to something useful.

The numbers are a certain job series, and the letters indicate a specific class in that job. 11 series is infantry. The b stands for rifleman and an 11c would be a mortar man.

68 is a medical series, and the letters would mean certain things like medic, veterinarian, dental hygienist, etc.

They're relics of former designations, and have never made absolute sense.
A 10F and a 9F (if they existed) would be completely different to an 11F.

All 11s are infantry, all 13s are artillery, all 14s are air defense, etc, etc. 11B is Rifleman, 13B is Cannon crewmember, 15B is Aircraft Powerplant Repairer... there really isn't any sort of commonality.

OP here, Honestly, I have no idea. Hah. Wish I could say. Just what I heard from being around them. Most of those guys with the signal experience probably weren't the spitting image that you think they are. Mostly there at Consulates and Embassys there for tech support on the ground,

I'm not American, so no. I'm this guy:

Must be those private servers everyone's raving about.

Hah right? There was a angry fuck who was paid triple figures just to push a button to open the fucking door to the consulate where we stayed for a few months back in 2014.

Pic related, Herat Consulate.

But, you'll get that feel again that your participating. Perhaps a MOS change to Commo (where in the National Guard makes you the defacto C.O.) or 11C mortars (me)if you want the grunt feel still. I've been in and out 3 times now I'm staying for the tricare medical benefits 200month for the family (50 for individual) It won't satisfy your sense of adventure, but you'll get the feel back (stay away from pogue units you'll lose your shit) Outside of that maybe being a smoke jumper, a cop, or something would be good for you. If it's travel you need the Air National Guard might be the ticket (they got cargo handler MOS for prior service)

>Pic related, it's me.
Lmao! Photo shows a typical facebook/instagram image url.
Okay, user. Whatever floats your boat on this god forsaken board.

Sure bud.

can you tell me the whereabouts of this guy ? i dunno his name but i heard he was rolling on dubs

I'm currently thriving in the great state of TX :)

Pic related, OP, rocking the devil beret.

...

Bro, go take a look in the mirror (for real and for a long time). You live in Rocky's apartment the only thing you don't have is a knife sticking out of the wall. Now (while looking in the mirror) ask yourself where do you want to be in 10 years? America is changing for the better. Do you want to be that guy with a shit ton of cool stories,a bunch of tactical gear laying around and some strippers panties on the floor that your nephew (who thinks your cool as shit) is eye balling while he feels up your AR with the ACOG,tac light and fore grip imagining playing real life Call of Duty while sitting on the end of your unmade bed.
Or, do you want to build a foundation for a better life, a future, woman ( a good woman) children, house the American dream ,it sounds kinda silly now , it's something you chip away at with one good decision after another. But, don't end up that 40 plus year old with just war stories for a legacy , you know the guys I'm talking about. MAGA

It's a dorm, thanks for the advice though...

I know the type, I'm still young, 24. Just got out of a divorced and attending school so I get to live the young shitty years. What you described is a big fear of mine though hah.

OP

This is truth. The Marines tended to drop out after 2-3km runs but man they could lift like crazy.

Also can't swim, they sunk in our friendly 'inter-force swimming carnival' resulting in an overwhelming Australian victory.
