none of them wait for a year and a half and then buy one

//thread

>
Not thread, I'm getting one lol, I will probably get another in a couple of years, but I still want one this year (for Christmas) so which is the best to start with?

Agreed, im waiting for the second generation rift, when it will undoubtedly be cheaper and have all the bugs ironed out.

what bugs?

The head tracking on the rift is meant to be very touch and go, and also just the general lack any tangible game at the moment puts me off.

Head tracking is fine, and a fuck ton of good games just got released with the touch controllers, Arizona Sunshine being one.

I get to play with the rift and vive for my job. I like the vive. Don't buy a headset until you've tried a vr headset. They can make you sick. Haven't tried the psvr

Neither. Get a nice monitor.

Now the rift has the Touch controllers it's easily the better option, the vive's controllers are huge and clumsy, Touch gives in game dexterity and feels like you're gripping guns.

Getting a VR today is the equivalent of buying a """portable""" phone in the 80's/90's its going to be overpriced and shit.

That's the thing. I think my work has an older setup. I don't know anything about the new controllers. I'll check next time I go to the vr room. My opinion might change.

That's the zen riddle. If you wait 5 years and buy one someone will still say "these will be better in 5 years!"

This.
Or if you have to have one now, and you can actually choose, you get the Vive, there's really no comparison.

Thing is, it was really cool to have a portable phone in the 90s.

yeah I know but VR is new, I wouldn't discourage anyone buying a Samsung galaxy s8 edge when it comes out for example. I'd say wait five years then get into VR when its actually practical.

I understand, and actually agree with you. I'm waiting too.

Theres a difference between working and better, first gen stuff always sucks.

Better, yes. Cheaper, no. These are the predictions I've seen for gen 2 based on following vr forums...

- Higher res display
- Lighter, more comfortable
- Better optimization due to foveated rendering

Yeah true, but someone needs to buy first gen so companies will produce 2nd gen. No market, no product. It just won't be me. 800 bucks or whatever they cost is too steep for what you're getting.

It's a matter of disposable income, too. The people buying first gen vr (vive, rift) are either hardcore enthusiasts, developers, or people with FU money.

No gaemes.

Checked

I've only used the Vive but I love it, the games are kinda shitty casual games but it's fun for a bit, plus VR porn.

I have the vive, room scale shit is fun but i have to move my couch each time.

>this thread
>not knowing about razers VR goggles that are cheaper and for devs and unpgardable

Get Vive or Rift.
The ps one is shit.

yeah and in 3-4 years there will be new ones. Should he wait?
Oh I want to buy a pc.
Should I wait for 1000000000 years for the technology to stop advancing every year to get one?
>kill yourself faggot

I really like to pgardable them tho. What do?

razerzone.com/osvr

Get this. Half the price.. much less gay

>The vive will let you swap out almost every part on the fucker, head straps, nose piece, lenses, hmd cables, etc.

You bought the ps4 pro didn't you user? :^)

I have tons of games on Rift

I had a dk2 and getting it to work in the early days was very annoying. You don't want to buy a headset before their ecosystem is in place.

I have about 18+ for the vive
>Most are odd experimental games though

For now, the Rift with Touch controllers and an extra camera is the better if not pricier option. Should you wait for VR to become mainstream? I dunno you can certainly do if you want to get a more mature product and content. I found that people interested in specific tech usually don't want to wait so decide if thats you or not.

vive

If you're insistent on getting one now I'd get a PSVR because it'll have the most actual games

I forgot to mention, the Fove is supposed to be released Q1 2017 and promises to bring a viable foveated rendering solution to VR.

You think I have a rift and I need a pleb machine?
What are you fucking 10 with that logic?
Also emots. HA!

Also OP don't listen to the faggots.
Rift works fine. Love it so far. Going to buy the touch in a few months.

Vive is also pretty fucking good.

The only difference between those two are the touch and the sensors.

The Rift comes with one sensor and no touch.
The Vive comes with 2 sensors and the touch.

The vive is ready for 360 room experience.
The rift is more for seated experience with some diffuculties on 360 (only one sensor).

The resolutions and everything else on the headsets are the same.

So buy whichever you think looks better I guess.

The PSVR tracking is getting terrible reviews.

I own a rift. It's a dust catcher tbh.

At first those privilege goggles, blow your fucking mind, but after a while you realize there's no real content out for it yet. Wait another year or two until there's more than shitty tech demos out for it.

If you need to buy one now, it depends, if you want room scale, go with vive, but if you prefer a sitting experience and don't want to move around like an idiot all the time, go with rift.

Forgot to mention.
Saw some reviews on steam forums from some guys that got the rift touch.

Works like vive. Most of the VR games that support vive support rift too.
It wasn't like that before the rift touch because some games needed the touch controls.
Now it's all the same.

Now it's //thread.

>faggots

Along with the Touch controllers, Oculus is going to sell additional sensors to setup room tracking and they also announced some new earbuds. I have them and they work great. Much better than the over-the-ear speakers.

If you are a Masterrace dude and you have space in your house...go for the Vive.
Vr with the Roomscale and the performance of the Vive is a superb thing!
And also...is Valve behind this HMD! ;)

Yeah forgot to say that. With the touch you get one extra sensor.

The over the ear speakers aren't that bad.
At least with the sound quality.

You haven't experienced it yet, have you?

Valve's involvement is key. They are pushing an open model. They license the tracking tech. They allow oculus games on Steam. No exclusives, except where technology limits apply. On the other hand, Oculus is trying to divide the market like mac/pc, Xbox/Ps, etc. Fuck Oculus.

I f you already have an android phone (later models). You only need to buy a hundred dollar GearVR headset to have a pretty good VR experience. It's not as good as a Rift, but for the price it's a good alternative till the Rift is improved up to your standards.

Most devs are using SteamVR these days, it works fine across every major VR heaset.

I have PSVR and is fucking awesome. Decent launch library, Good games in the way too.

And there is already a driver for PC allowing some vr use in pc games (accelerometer tracking for now, and camera tracking on the way).

If you want a 1st gen device and already have a ps4, then this is the way to go.

The Gear has a lot more content right now but the weak mobile processor and lack of good optics holds it back.

I think it's a good cheap alternative for the time being.

Nearly all of the content for Gear is available on Rift and Vive anyway

The Vive is $800 The Rift is $600 and needs to be tethered to a high end computer. All I've been saying is that for a cheap alternative the GearVR fills the bill.

niggers like you cant afford any of that

Fuck off Chad, I know you lol

Hey it's the guy from yesterday who takes this video which has nothing to do with the subject matter and inserts it into the conversation for no apparent reason. May I impolitely say FUCK YOU

I know that guy from years back, he used to do "video battles" on Youtube with a bunch of fags called the "6699" and some British kid destroyed him at a rap battle

See you called him Chad. Is he a Hanging Chad? Because he needs to hang himself.

It's this asshole, he used to get the piss ripped out of him daily

>.02 cents has been added to your Facebook Farmville acconut

If people hadn't bought that phone in the 90's you wouldn't be wasting half your life on snapchat today.

Most rift games will play on the vive and the vive is a more immersive system. It's not as portable though. PlayStation has the worst specs and the worst tracking system

Fuck those people. Also 80's

>Which one should I get and why?
None you stupid fuck. Buy a better 4k monitor. Wait for gen 2 vr headsets.

I have a 70" 4K TV

psvr is trash from what I've seen and the vive looks good from what all of those youtubers that were paid to make it look good said

>the vive is a more immersive system

No it's not though lol, they're both equally immersive, the Rift has better controllers though

PSvr is fucking awesome.
Love it, and aside from lacking a second camera for smoother tracking, it's just as good as any other system.

And it's already semi compatible with PC VR games.

>it's just as good as any other system

I own the Rift and the PSVR and it's nowhere near as good as the Rift. It has far more of a screen door effect, the motion tracking isn't as good, and the controllers are a joke. It's like a budget version of the Rift

This sounds about what I was thinking. Get the touch controls, and supposedly a third camera will give the Rift the same capabilities as the vive. I want one also OP, but don't quite have the money to upgrade my computer and still get all the equipment. By the time I do, the next gen will probably be out, or be close.

Spoken like a true poorfag that didn't have a portable phone in the 90s. Shit was so cash.

Ummm... no. You don't have one. You don't know. People like you are retarded. I own a vive and a rift. I know man. And you're wrong. Arizona sunshine. Buff said. Now go whine to your mom. Maybe she will buy you one. Cheap ass faggot. Play your game boi.

Except with good game dev standards

Funny how all you fags that don't have any vr experience dismiss it as "unready" "not playable" "lack of content" you idiots don't have a clue. It blows everything out of the water. Been playing Arizona sunshine with my 3 buds that have vr, cause they ain't poor fags who justify being broke by pretending the new stuff is uncool. Once you get one you'll be like duuuuuuuuuuude it's the new gaming. Hahaha you guys are retarded. I'm sure you know all about Ferrari handling too. Fuck off poor fags. To op, get the rift. It's lighter, much more comfortable, way better controllers, and more backing.

youtube.com/watch?v=LGTe9bLQNIE

Also there's the 600 dollar phone attached to it.

Dude no way.... I was just thinking of that haha!

great minds think alike

Vive Owner here.

Get a Vive. It's the same price as the rift and is superior in terms of tracking, controllers, content, and the company that gets the money.

kek, the Vives big dildo controllers are better than Oculus Touch controllers? Fuck off lol

Seconded. Plus the oculus is more expensive after adding controllers. I have a vive. Its awesome. Buy one used from ebay. Got mine for 600$. Alot of people are selling them because they are impatient for solid content / dont like the setup process to play / find it uncomfortable. Content is coming, comfort is fixable with a cheap headset mod. Setup is what it is but you get used to it. Thats the biggest con imo. It can be hard to motivate myself to slide everything out of the way and get everything put on and fitted just to play for an hour or so.

vive, i have a vive and its amazing.

Rift is already comfortable, has far superior controllers, and the same amount of content. Rift is the obvious option

Buut you cant play vive games. Vive can play all the rift games. And vive is upgrading controllers next year.

Also wireless addon available soon.

Your logic would be sound if VR HMDs wasn't completely fucking new to the consumer market you retard.

The next generation of HMDs will probably double the awesomeness, and then it will steadily decline each generation until the next big leap.

I've got one of the original developer Rifts and a vive, get the vive it's much, much better in every conceivable way.
I shit you not, you will not regret it.

The trick is not to know

Comparing your DK1 to the consumer version Vive? That's retarded.

VR in it's current stage is a gimmick.

It's this years 3D TVs.

neither.

>TLDR:

Vive pros
>Best tracking, nothing competes
>Best roomscale experience
>Not oculus
>Volvo is producing software & drivers, new betas every week
>More games under development for longer thanks to the earlier release and wands being out since forever

Rift pros
>More intuitive touch controllers, but the next vive controllers will be similar or possibly better (allowing for open hands etc, thanks volvo)
>Facebook money for a few studios to develop exclusives/earlier releases

PSVR pros
>A few good release titles, but otherwise poor hardware, shitty tracking, shitty roomscale
>Not oculus
>Easier setup I guess?

All of them suffer from having relatively low resolution / no eye tracking which requires lots of juice for 'poor' images. Some games will look really clear and awesome, but others will be like running 640x480 in CSGO.

>low resolution
What do you mean by this? Is it like low pixel per inch while wearing it?

*I mean screen door effect?

My advice is if you're going to buy one, go all out and get vive but wait at least a year or 2. Vr is still a work in progress so its not completely there yet but we're getting there. I seen comparison on all of them and vive looks best imo.

Yes, sort of, something like that. But it will depend on how much juice the game needs, as low-gpu games can max the resolution while "normal" games cannot really and will downscale.

Project CARS is a good example of a SHIT game to play with current-gen HMDs, as you can't see shit in the distance and the game requires a lot of juice to run.

Some games will look great, though. Space Pirate Trainer is one that comes to mind.

I have Rift Cv1 and the Vive. They both are quite amazing. We havnt received our touch controllers yet, but the Rift headset is much more sleek than the Vive, and from the dozens of people I've demoed it too, the Rift seems to be the more comfortable of the two for most people. Now that both have roomscale( you're probably going to want that 3rd sensor), you may just want to decide which company your like to support.

Spoken like someone who hasn't spent time in a Vive
