Well said.

Thank you Claire.

>not posting/discussing grimes
>not being nice to grimes

why are you here, moron?

shes making an orchestra re do visions or some shit now lul

She's not doing it, some band is doing a classical orchestra interpretation of Visions.

that shit miley?

I've been waiting for a general all week

...

You coulda posted one.

Yeah, contrary to popular belief (among trolls/haters) these threads don't just magically make themselves for no reason. They all start with someone taking the initiative to start a conversation.

>please make sure you are nice to Grimes before posting in this thread. Thank you
Wtf?

scream is the best song on art angels

This.

>Grimes's 2012 album Visions is getting the classical treatment from Montreal-based ensemble Plumes.

>The group, which includes singer/guitarist Veronica Charnley (of Flotilla), composer and multi-instrumentalist Geof Holbrook and harpist Éveline Grégoire-Rousseau, commissioned composers to rework tracks to take Grimes’s subversion of pop traditions even further down the road of deconstruction. Composers include Nicole Lizée, Marielle Groven, Cassandra Miller, Emilie LeBel and Toronto-based Monica Pearce.

>It’s fitting that Pearce should find herself tackling a composition based on the music of Grimes, a left-field pop star who’s been outspoken about the lack of recognition for female producers and technical talents. The issue of gender equity in classical music is one Pearce has continually pushed, as former general manager of the Canadian League of Composers and now as executive director at the Music Gallery.

[...]

>What is it about Visions that lends itself to this sort of reimagining?
>It’s really rich musically. The melodic aspects of the tracks are amazing. Veronica, Plumes singer, has this incredible voice but is very different from Grimes. It’s going to be quite different from the album, which I think will be really exciting.

I don't get it, why it's so hard for some people to be nice to Grimes?

#
"Being nice to Grimes" is literally just voignamirian code for "not engaging in posting activities - such as trolling - which are in direct violation of /mu rules, because otherwise we will report the shit out of you if you do." It's a form of common courtesy since not all corners of /mu are accustom to actually following said rules (due to lack of people trying to have real conversations) and people have a tendency to default into whatever sort of posting they usually employ when they come to these threads - despite the different posting context.

>everyone who doesnt like grimes is trolling
now comes the part where you run crying to the mods because someone had the audacity to disagree with you

grimey

grimes looks like one of those inbred
members of british royalty

prove me wrong (you cant)

oh yeah?

>implying this painter lived after this monstrosity

they probably just took his or her hands

>prove me wrong (you cant)
You are wrong. Period.

grimes is so pretty...

It is because Sup Forums is still subject to folding in on itself just for the sake of being contrarian. Not saying everyone who dislikes Grimes is trying to be contrarian, but there is absolutely no reason to hate her.

This.

people are utterly in denial of how desirable she is, she's beautiful and cute at the same time

The fact she makes great music makes her even hotter.

Why dont you faggots just be honest with yourselves and admit you want to fuck dudes.

>projecting

i can't speak for that other user

yeah, she makes a lot of beautiful music too. she's so easy to fall in love with

If you're confusing a girl with shorter hair with a boy, you have issues, bruh. Big issues. Keep your issues to yourself, thank you very much.

How does Art Angels compare to VIsions?

It's way poppier, exuberant, noisier, with more guitar, sharper songwriting, improved production, better singing, more guitar and violin. Despite its "flaws", I think Visions is still her best album.

Grime fans like to use babby's first psychology words they learned in community college
oh wait, I'm projecting. grime is shit btw

Art Angels felt like the more definitive grimes album to me, I like how positive it was for the most part

art angels is easily one of my favourite pop albums of the last 10 years, and i have a lot of respect for grimes as an artist too. in a way that album is what i wish top 40 was - self written and produced, infectious but unique and quirky. visions is really good too but i JUST REALIZED I'm a grimes fan and I should kill myself for having shit taste in music and being a loser

bump

>what did he meant

Dude, i agree with you 100%. I'm going through that. I've only been a fan for a few months but AA is a deserved masterpiece.

A few of my friends and bandmates that I hang and smoke cannabis with give me shit because I love her. We usually listen to a lot of the same music since we play in a band together, one friend in particular is actually worried about me, because I've been listening to Grimes so much. But whatever, I guess it's just hard to jam to AA with a bunch of dudes and masculine energy

>leave Sup Forums for ~18 mo

>people coming to the defense of grimes

was not expecting this, she is cute and visions is not awful

she's ok

Yeah man, the Grimes/DG hate really calmed down since then.

If you want to get with the times, it's really cool to dislike Father John Misty and Animal Collective

...

>now comes the part where you run crying to the mods
Nope - 'cuz no rules were violated by your post.

>visions is not awful
Nick backhanded compliment. Visions is actually amazing.

>But whatever, I guess it's just hard to jam to AA with a bunch of dudes and masculine energy
The irony is that AA has plenty of energy, even more than most rock bands. I'm damn sure that Kill V. Maim, Scream and Venus Fly are more aggressive than over 90% of the songs on the radio.

I wonder what's her opinion on people who literally worship her.

>know the way is 1:48 seconds
WHO THE FUCK OKAY'D THIS
its so pretty and comfy and its so short

do tell

>(outro)

Agreed 100%, so it makes me wonder, or leads me to think, They must be letting preconceived notions effect their opinion about Grimes, because AA is pop perfection with some bold experiments, And from Grimes who doesn't seem like she's trying to appeal to pop culture at all. She's completely original, which is rare to see

It's just an outro. A bloody brilliant one, not even one second wasted. That's Grimes' genius™ in action.

blame it on sebastian cowan who didn't let her finish the album like she wanted

I think Grimes would succeed in every genre (OK, maybe except country). I'm really excited about her future projects.

She was rushed to finish the album but she still managed to make a masterpiece. That's Grimes' genius™ in action.

I mean Visions is a great record. But some of the tracks just have her playing piano scales up and down with some synthesizers. The outro is perfect with those water effects they make me so comfy

Finally went through her discography.
Geidi Primes was boring and forgettable.
Halfaxa I would love as an instrumental album.
Visions was boring.
I like California and Flesh without blood on AA, and thats it.

>But some of the tracks just have her playing piano scales up and down with some synthesizers.
It's actually not just playing piano scales up and down. Listen carefully to that Nightmusic synth solo.

So, her music wasn't for you. Try again later or forget about it.

>Visions was boring.
*cringe*

>grimes fags get this defensive over an opinion any less than 11/10 AOTC

No wonder youre hated by Sup Forums. kust trying to bring discussion

>for all her Versace trenchcoats and Dr Martens boots, the public gaze is not something she wears comfortably. ‘I think,’ she hesitates, ‘I was always a very ugly person until recently. I had terrible hair and bad skin. So the whole thing is pretty odd.’ Her image frowns in the centre of my screen as she struggles for the right words. ‘It’s just... my self-identity is so strongly based on my abilities as an artist and as a producer and an engineer, I’m allergic to the idea of ever being evaluated on my physical appearance. When people are like: “Marry me, Grimes” — I’m like, AGHHHGH. Like I can’t… it’s every day. Marry me, marry me. It’s so weird.’
>‘I just want to sit in a dark room and make beats, and people see me as this elfin princess.’
standard.co.uk/lifestyle/esmagazine/grimes-i-always-feel-weird-selling-art-a3188211.html

Take it for what it's worth.

Dude why would you ever say that.

>grimes fags
>speaking in plural
user, your argument is clearly with a single other poster. Kindly dispense with the retarded meme terms and address yourself to that person directly. The rest of us want no part in your idiocy - for or against.

I can see that. I haven't listened closely to her first 2. Last time I listened to Visions I thought the same thing but that was a while ago. I revisited Art Angels recently and found a lot of great songs. Don't let her devotees turn you off to her music. Maybe listen to more of Art Angels, Pin and Artangels are some of my favorite tracks.

>grimes fags get this defensive over an opinion any less than 11/10 AOTC
Yeah sure, "boring" is a legit argument. Sure. Piss off.

>Don't let her devotees turn you off to her music.
Why not? He finds her music to be boring for most part, so nothing is lost anyway.

>He finds her music to be boring for most part
Boring isn't a dirty word. Stop acting like an asshole ITT. I found Grimes' music completely uninteresting the first time I came across some of it, and now it's some of my absolute favorite. As you know it tends to grow on people - if they give it time to sink in. Give other people time to give it time to sink in.

Why do you care about him? He has his own mind; let him decide if he wants to listen more to her music. Don't be his damn lawyer. Sometimes you're kinda annoying, classical user.

GRIMES WILL NOT DIVIDE US

>let him decide if he wants to listen more to her music
No, /grimes/ knows better what's good for him.

sure, if we all follow her

I was shy :3

This

>tfwn GWNDU comfy stream where grimes music plays 24/7 and her fans congregate

no grimes spammers are ruining Sup Forums eat shit and fuck off

>GWNDU
What's that?
GTFO you fucking fuck.

you people are like an oil fire. you suck all the air out of Sup Forums

grimes will not divide us.... are u even reading the thread

>ruining Sup Forums
There is a feature that allows you to filter the threads you don't like to see.

Grimes is such an interesting artist to discuss. Only contrarians think otherwise.

>Why do you care about him?
Because, unlike you, I am not behaving like a reflexive asshole.

reflexive assholes are the best assholes tho. Tight and fit on my man :)

what is ur favorite albums of this year so far voigs? I cant think of many but i really liked the new xiu xiu album

i really liked the new bigballs420 album "del taco" to

>I am not behaving like a reflexive asshole.
Are you sure about that, bro? I've seen many flippant comments from you, smartass. Yes, you behaved like an asshole too. Mind your business and let other anons speak for themselves. Stop trying to police her fans.

mom and dad can you stop arguing?

>Only contrarians think otherwise.
The great irony is how much they evidently love discussing that very point...

Honestly haven't heard any. I like to wait until after the hype surrounding a new release by an artist I am not already heavily invested in the music of has fully passed before giving their music a good spin. Imo it helps in developing one's own, independent sense of taste.

The bigger deal/popular music oriented/more hyped the artist, the longer you have to wait for that air to clear desu. Sometimes even years. Case in point - I only just started getting int to Lana Del Rey's music this past week.

>Are you sure about that, bro?
Yes. I believe in giving the benefit of the doubt.

Lol

All Sup Forums users behave like assholes (reflexive or not). Even you. This jungle demands that. Eat or be eaten.

>All Sup Forums users behave like assholes (reflexive or not). Even you.
No, I specifically DO NOT behave like a REFLEXIVE asshole on /mu, because I'm here for actual music discussion - not to have flamewars with trolls.

>I'm here for actual music discussion
I'm sure many people are here for that purpose. But that didn't stop them behaving like assholes. These are 2 different things and could coexist.

>not to have flamewars with trolls.
Yeah, sure. I lost count how many wars you had with them. Yes, you behaved nicer (less insults) but you were still an asshole. An intellectual asshole if you will.

>Yes, you behaved nicer (less insults) but you were still an asshole.
Hence my distinction between being a REFLEXIVE asshole (what I am not) and being an asshole when appropriate (what I am.)

>>Dear Kreayshawn, Do you know who Grimes is? I’m obsessed with her. I’d like to follow her around, but a restraining order would ruin me. Is there another way to express my severe interest in her?
>You can make songs for her and name all your songs “I Love Grimes” and your name can be Grimes Lover and maybe she’ll notice you. Just don’t stalk people, because that’s weird and people don’t like that.
bullettmedia.com/article/kreayshawn-gives-advice/

OK. Honestly, why do you spend your time on this god awful board? You studied classical, you seem smarter than the average, why do you even post on this board full of morons? You can't change anything.

...

grimes is a good musician and cute! cute!!

i definitely see the appeal.

no she isnt cute, but u are user :)

I only like Villians, but hey thats better than 99% of musicians ya know? not for everybody
