Except, it made sense. The bat creature emerging from his mother's grave and and grasping him in a dream was an allegory for how his identity of Batman, which was created in reaction for his parent's deaths, was consuming him and bringing him down. It's further reinforced later in the scene as he's looking at his suit before he attends the party (pic), where he ponders how much the bat has cost him. But I guess even basic subtext in film is just 2DEEP4U.
