Eating too many calories of anything will most likely add weight. Overeating healthy food is at least healthy food but its still over eating. Try to eat about half of what you originally wanted and then waiting like 15 mins or so before you eat more. Spacing out the same amount of food should be better for your metabolism and blood sugar etc.

If you want to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you consume. That forces your body to burn fat to make up the difference. It doesn't matter what you eat. If you are consuming more calories than you burn you will not lose weight.

This means some foods are better of course. Using the KFC example, one boxed meal and a soft drink will probably ring up about 3/4s or more of your daily caloric requirements and you will be hungry a few hours later. On the other hand a large plate of broccoli and a 250g portion of lean meat you could probably eat three times a day which will fill you up nicely. Of course if you can control your hunger (which being fat indicates you probably can't, but I'll say it anyway) then you can eat whatever you want.

Of course you probably don't want to eat shit every day even if you do count calories because you also need to monitor your fiber, protein, vitamin and sugar intakes, and fast food generally has too much of one and not enough of the other. But if your ONLY goal is to lose weight and not overall health, then calorie counting is literally the ONLY way to go. You gotta stick to it though, don't just say to yourself "Oh this is just a salad so it's healthy and I won't count it." That's idiot talk, that's how you end up a lard ass.
