Yeah well they actively reject the tradition of the armies of the world wars and when the soldiers try to take up these traditions (which they do of course because as a soldier you want to associate with the good looking guys who conquered Europe rather than face the fact that all you ever will do is patrol shitholes like Kosovo) they get reprimanded. The Bundeswehr was created to be destroyed, that's the problem. Everyone expected the Cold War to escalate and so the Americans founded the BW to have a meatshield that would sacrifice itself in order to buy them time if the Russians would invade Western Europe.
Everyone expected that would happen and the Bundeswehr as well as Germany to be destroyed in the process. They didn't need traditions because they were Wehrmacht veterans who knew how to die fighting Communists anyway and didn't give a fuck about regulations regarding traditions. they had their experiences and wore their Nazi medals.
Because that didn't happen there's basically an army no one wants or needs anymore and that has no traditions. Just like the governments of France and Britain still cry themselves to sleep because Germany wasn't nuked to oblivion by the soviets and the force de frappe, so does the German government not know what to do with their unpopular army.
But how does an army feels like?

The Bundeswehr is not allowed to have parades for example. Parades are only allowed in the shape of international parades, which include several nations.
An army which is not allowed to have its own parades doesn't seem like a sovereign, strong army.

How's cigs? I've never had to smell so much smoking as during conscription. You get used to it quite fast, but it felt like half of our squad was constantly either smoking, complaining they couldn't smoke atm or using snuff. The last has a sizeable black market among conscripts, where even people who didn't use the stuff brought it from trips to either Sweden or Russia to sell it to fellows.
Alcohol is a whole other matter. In the past you could buy beer inside the camp, but in nowdays you have to drink it during leaves. Being drunk is accepted as long it doesn't affect your service.
Of course there's a German military traditions, several states of the empire had their own armies with their own traditions, these were later taken over by the Reichswehr and then the Wehrmacht, when the Wehrmacht was defeated and disbanded these traditions ended, not just the Prussian one. The Wehrmacht actually had units like the Braunschweig Death Head Hussars or the Austrian Deutschmeister Regiment which stemmed from the Teutonic order etc and carried their traditions.
