Black Metal: Trve Kvlt Edition.
This thread is for the discussion of cold, raw, evil black metal. Only the most evil, hateful, lo-fi black metal is allowed. No digital media allowed. If you're going to discuss collecting, make it vinyl or tapes. Older and more obscure black metal is preferred.
Posers can fuck off.

Listening to anything but Burzum or Darkthrone is for posers. Fuck off.
you're a faggot, euronymous was a spoiled little cunt.
nice thread.
Best buried black metal album of the 90s. Psychedelic and fucked up lo-fi madness.
There is already a black metal thread up but ok.
I've been listening to Vargsang a fair bit recently. Very typical black metal, but still very enjoyable. I would post a link but digital media is not allowed.
"A Blaze In The Northern Sky is eternally dedicated to the king of black/death metal underground; namely Euronymous!"
darkthrone is shit
Everything after Total Death is pretty bad, but Under A Funeral Moon is one of the best black metal albums ever.
I guess even 'kings' aren't immune to being stabbed in the skull
Darkthrone is forever one of the most dedicated and pure metal bands of all times, anyone who actually believes otherwise is a total fucking poser.
Goatlord is the greatest death metal album ever made, A Blaze/Under a Funeral Moon are tied for best black metal and everything else the band has done is pure underground worship.
emperor > darkthrone
Hahahahahaha, Emperor is the shittiest fucking black metal band of the 90s.
W O R S H I P
>all this Euronymous hate
Sure is underage in here. Euronymous almost single handedly spearheaded the second wave of black metal. All of his contemporaries except for Varg respected him.
Nah, mate. Wrath Of The Tyrant is fucking kvlt. I agree that their later work is over produced, though.
Legit, anyone talking shit on Euronymous doesn't know shit. The dude bridged the gap between the first and second wave by writing some of the most defining black metal in the late 80s, and he was dedicated to the underground and promoting the madness of the South American scene when nobody else would. Euronymous did more for black metal than any shitty fucking Emperor or other poser synth band ever did.
And look what happened for not respecting Varg. Try again, and stop projecting your age onto us. Only 15 year olds think Euronymous is cool. 'He closed down his vinyl shop because his parents told him too, that's so fucking metal and brutal and kvvvvvlt!!!!'
He was literally a spoiled edgelord autist, if he were alive today he would probably wear a fedora.
Wrath of the Tyrant is the only non-shit Emperor material. Ihsahn should have stuck with Thou Shalt Suffer
I actually really like this album. I'm pretty sure Forteresse is one of the best Black metal bands from the past 10 years.
The fact that he owned a black metal shop and operated a record label dedicated to underground black metal bands is worthy of praise in and of itself.
Without him, there would have been no black metal scene.
He owned a shop that his parents paid for
*wind sounds*
BWRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
*wind sounds*
You're missing the point.
No Norwegian black metal scene, and the South American one might have been worse off, but otherwise there was still black metal going strong worldwide without the Norwegians. In fact, without Norway, the second wave of black metal would have been dramatically different, pioneered by Germans and the Finns instead. I wish that black metal actually went the way of Mystifier/Master's Hammer/Beherit but alas Darkthrone, Burzum and Mayhem all happened.
I have a list dedicated to detailing black metal's early years if anyone's interested in how it developed: rateyourmusic.com
I searched up Forteresse after posting this and it seems like they're releasing a new album this year, which is pretty cool. Thèmes pour la rebellion was BMAOTY last year.
He was just a sociopath who wanted attention and to feel important, that's not worthy of praise.
And there was already a "scene" before he opened his shop, just not in his city.
Believe it or not, even underground musicians have family and real life connections and relationships. Even the most dedicated black metal bastards take shits in the morning and tell their girlfriends they're pretty.
It would have been nice if there was no 'scene.' Burzum was the only good thing to come out of it anyways.
This album is so fucking underrated. It's easily the best classic Immortal album.
Agreed.
>Burzum was the only good thing to come out of it anyways.
Such a fucking nu-male hipster opinion. Go listen to Deafheaven or atmoshit.
having your parents buy you a record store is so extreme.
trve kvlt.
How else are you gonna get a record store when you're that wrong? Americans and their fear of parental support. This western idea of needing to support yourself as early as possible lest you be seen as a loser is laughable.
that young* don't know where I got "wrong" from
I know they're death metal, but the Darkthrone demos are fucking kvlt.
Why does every black metal thread have to turn into an argument about the Norwegian scene, it's been discussed to death. Both Varg and Euronymous are very important to black metal and made some classic music, just because they argued 20 years ago doesn't mean we still have to.
Post black metal from cool places, Darkestrah is from Kyrgyzstan.
That album cover looks too clean/digital. It's missing that old DIY charm.
Saying what happened between Varg and Euro was arguing is like saying raping someone is just fooling around with them
>opinion different from mine
OMG NU MALE KEK LORD AARRRGHHHHHHH GO FUCK YOUR KEYBOARD NUB
Glad to see this board is still full of idiots.
wtf is kyrgyzstan, I didn't even know that was a country.
It's above Tajikistan and next to Uzbekistan.
>coming to post in a thread dedicated to the trvest of trve black metal
>dissing the entire Norwegian scene except for Burzum
Go listen to your casio keyboard atmoshit. I bet you think Filosofem is the greatest black metal record of all time.
>I bet you think Filosofem is the greatest black metal record of all time
Are you implying it's not?
It's objectively not. If Burzum had a best ever album, it's Det Som.
It's not even the best Burzum album.
Atmoshit hipster detected.
>using hipster as an insult
embarrassing to be quite honest
Does anybody here collect rare or obscure demo tapes? I want to get into it, but it's so fucking expensive.
Save your money and support the modern underground instead. You can get dozens of cheap underground demo tapes that will, 1. only go up in value as the bands continue and, 2. rule because there's a shitload of good stuff out there and it's good to support
Buying 30 year old demo tapes achieves nothing and is a waste of money.
Am I the only one who thinks this band is actually supremely overrated? I get that they have a great story and everything, but I don't actually think any of their content is anything particularly special. It's not like they're early Darkthrone or Immortal or anything.
They influenced early Darkthrone and Immortal more than any other band. Darkthrone's entire black metal trilogy is owed entirely to Mayhem's sound (and Bathory and Celtic Frost).
That album sucks, and their live stuff and rehearsal stuff is way better than their studio recordings.
Deathcrush is decent but overrated.
Their live albums with dead are interesting.
DMDS is one of the best black metal albums ever.
Everything else in their discography is pretty bad.
Riffthrone > Mayhem
Only Deathcrush can touch Throne's rich discography
Mayhem with the classic lineup was god-tier, for the brief period of time they existed.
Well yeah I love Darkthrone overall more than Mayhem, but that doesn't mean Mayhem is bad or that what I said isn't true. Fenriz has said on the record many times that Darkthrone did black metal because of Mayhem, Bathory and Celtic Frost.
I agree, but Darkthrone went to shit after Sardonic Wrath.
>pic related is actually an extremely underrated classic and one of their best albums
I get that they were the leaders of the scene and stuff, I just don't think it ever showed up on the actual tape. I think both iterations of Immortal are far superior, and Darkthrone actually released more than one album with a stable lineup. The album that actually has Euronymous on it has Attila doing vocals, and he's fucking horrible. I get that it's not their fans' fault that Dead and Euronymous died, but I just think they're overrated for the sake of the legend over the actual content of the music they made.
You mean they released their best material after Sardonic Wrath, right? FOAD, Dark Thrones, The Cult Is Alive, Circle the Wagons, Underground Resistance, Arctic Thunder are all modern fucking classics of pure worship
>Fenriz has said on the record many times that Darkthrone did black metal because of Mayhem
Yeah because Euron convinced them to change their sound from DM to BM
Nah, Punkthrone is fucking neat too m8
Attila is the best black metal vocalist of all times dude wtf
Attila > Dead no contest
...
THIS M8. Fuck those albums are the best of RIFFTHRONE N' PUNKTHRONE combined
I don't think Euronymous convinced them to do anything. Darkthrone changing from death metal to black metal was a reaction to the plastic production of death metal and their experiences recording Soulside Journey.
Mayhem were just a main musical influence.
>best material
Fuck off. Punkthrone is shit and deep down, you know it too. They're a shell of the band they used to be. Arctic Thunder was good, but the rest of those albums you listed fucking suck.
Is this bait? This is probably their most hated album.
Not my fault people have shit taste.
It's tied for me, because Dead had Morbid, but Attila had Tormentor which recorded pic related - The best metal demo to be ever recorded
>I don't think Euronymous convinced them to do anything.
Nigga lurk moar
Were Gorgoroth the biggest posers in black metal?
No.
>Doesn't like the speed/crust punk Riffthrone era
>Thinks he has good taste
Them, Carpathian Forest, and Taake.
>Carpathian Forest
'splain nigga
You're a good man, you've done well.
Nargaroth fucking sucks. I mean, "The Day Burzum Killed Mayhem"
Seriously?
...
Doing God's work user, much appreciated. Also, I don't care for Norwegian BM, only the masters of the RIFF - Darkthrone
This man gets it.
yee
I can't fucking listen to newer Darkthrone without cringing and being embarrassed for them. Maybe if the lyrics were less intelligible, or they were in Norwegian or something, but I can't fucking listen to this.
If you defend the song on the right and claim that its on par with their classic music, you're wrong.
Raised on Rock fucking rules
Looks like you weren't raised on rock
SOLD MY SOOOUL TO MANILLA ROAD
The music jams, but those lyrics sound like something a 15 year old would post on Reddit while complaining that his generation sucks and everybody listens to (c)rap.
>caring about lyrics over the sound of a song
cmon son
ÜGH
wew lad
That's because the spirit of heavy metal is based in adolescence, being stupid and rocking the fuck out. Darkthrone gets it, you don't
