What's with emo and "artistic" album covers that barely tell you the theme of the album let alone the name?

I can understand not liking the cover for the Devil and God, but you have to admit that the cover for Diary is pretty damn good

TDAG is less consistent, but at the same time more varied and interesting, and the good songs are better than Diary's good songs.
I'll give it to TDAG.

Owning the album on CD makes me more partial to Diary because the band actually used a bunch of pieces by this one artist that were submitted to his art school or something for his master's degree. They originally were just going to use the image that became the front cover but they used every image from the submission for the lyric pages and they all work great together thematically.

They're mostly the 'little people' images with a few others mixed in. The 'little people' concept is really simple but genius in a way. Having these little children's toys with smiling faces in all of these messed up or too real for children's minds situations. Like open heart surgery, a group of firefighters fighting a fire etc. It all works with the music really well in my opinion.

When I look at the Brand New cover I just see a le funny no context emo cover. Not that Brand New is especially emo, they've always been an alternative rock band to me. A good one though.
