music's great. one of my favorite movies
echoing that statement - cinematography + plot music was great
Need to rewatch this. I thought it was visually pretty but dull as hell, and I usually like movies people consider "boring"
yeah. op's pic, the scene in the field, with him listening to his discman, is forever burned into my mind
Anyone know any similar ones? This movie gave me the feels
There used to be a bbs from where the director had taken real message board posts and put them in the movie.
you know personally I cant say, but depends on what you mean by similar - do you mean the juxtaposition of forum life and real life, bullying/degradation of friendship, the in media res style of narrative? or more on the cinematogrphy? or having a fictional musical act be the crux of the story?
if the shooting is it I think you'd be better off asking Sup Forums or google for films that use both 16mm fim and digital cameras? for plot, havent watched, but maaaaybe Harmful Insect (on the backlog)? Or Shinji Aoyama's Helpless?
Tho if I made a rec, watch Aoyam's Eureka - 4 hrs long but fucking worth it (plus O'rourke's song Eureka is in it)
thats a great one, similarly, the scene where hoshino screaming in the rice field while ai no jikken plays is gr8. Personally the shot of him drowning in Okinawa was my fav (especially with Okinawan trad music in the background)
Thanks so much user! I will definitely check those movies out.
What reeled me in was that they made something so interesting by inculcating some of the facts or real incidents that happened during those times and they were able to do it so naturally, almost raw. I like movies that makes you feel the characters are real even when it's all just fiction.
Movies like Solomon's Perjury or Mulholland Drive or maybe Juvenile Offender.
And yes the album in this was a huge plus point. The music and lyrics were fantastic.
And yeah the scene where Tsuda committed suicide got to me, A lot of the scenes just changed me in some ways... it's hard to explain because I first watched this when I was about their age.
