It's just he opposite. Elbas characters are all too "intense", though his understanding of intensity is a pretty basic one. When I read the dark tower, I was struck by Roland's suppressed humanity, he's obviously not a normal, strictly realistic person, but I think it was important to have a sense of his exhaustion, sadness, humor. Elba doesn't really do that, he has too much of a fixation with this sort of aggressive, simmering darkness that he brings into all his roles which often creates the opposite effect of what it's trying to, at least in my mind.

A little bit goes a long way I guess, and the dark tower is very much about the setting, you don't need your Roland to be a "big" character, he needs to blend with the scenery a little bit and then explode in certain moments.

Point is dark tower will be bad. You can literally tell from his costume alone. Not realistic enough.

I'll say this as someone who liked him since before he exploded. He's not a good actor. He's got a great intimidating presence that's perfect for a lot of roles, but he shouldn't be winning any awards. Still love him though, same way I love Jason Statham.
