What are some essential live albums to check out? It seems most people will just look at an artist or group's most famous songs, and then the most interested and curious will at most check out some albums in the studio discography and then ignore live albums, eps, singles and etc. But are there any live albums which you'd consider essential listening? obviously At Folsom Prison, Swans Are Dead and Alice in Chains Unplugged
That fucking album was memed into #2 for RYM's top albums of 1999.
Live albums are rockist
By memed you mean voted, right?
But rockists don't listen to live albums
Why aren't there any good live hip hop albums? Every other major American genre has at least one memed live album.
Even if you don't like the Grateful Dead, it's worth checking out.
Because hip hop isn't about musical talent, it's about arranging and producing
>it's about arranging and producing
that takes musical talent you faggot
Jeff Mangum at jittery Joe's
Jeff Mills- Live at the Liquid Romm Tokyo
Jimi Hendrix- Band of Gypsy's
Ryo Fukui- letters from slowboat
Coil- The ambulance died in his arms
Talking Heads- The Name of this band is Talking Heads
Oh sorry the Ryo Fukui album isn't live. Still good though!
Best version of Flood desu
Not him, but that's what the producer does. That's the musically skilled person. The actual performer, the rapper, normally isn't.

les rallizes dénudés 77 live
John Fahey - The Great Santa Barbara Oil Slick

>Jimi Hendrix- Band of Gypsy's
GOAT live album for me
Purely a collection of songs to showcase Hendrix's virtuosity. His best playing, by far.
Not his best songwriting in terms of lyricism, but songs like Machine Gun or Message of Love are sang by his guitar.
but its great
the live version of reed to hillsborough is the musical equivalent of an orgasm
Life Without Buildings - Live at the Annandale Hotel
S T O P M A K I N G S E N S E
This was the debut of Akira Jimbo, and a fantastic display of all the member's technical skill, as they all take solos
I don't know about any live albums, but everyone should watch this live performance

>HOME SHOULD BE
I agree, amazing stuff.
is there a studio version of Oh! Slime
I actively avoid live albums, but the FISHMANS one is legitimately great and I love it.
So far as radio hip-hop is concerned, sure. You could say the same thing about anyone who makes radio music though; Lady Gaga, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, Ed Sheeran. All the big hits that make them sell records are almost entirely sold based on third party production.
But if you're not an absolute retard you know that worthwhile Hip-Hop acts do their own production.

someone mentions that Townes Van Zandt album every time
Live at Old Quarter or something
LCD Soundsystem - The Long Goodbye
Three and a half fucking hours of amazing performances. James' monologue before the final song is a tearjerker.
This album is the reason why people were at all pissed that they got back together 5 years later - it was such a spectacular bit of closure that to come back after only 5 years cheapens the event in retrospect.
Hanx & Handheld and Rigidly Digital are the only way to listen to Stiff Little Fingers.
Shame the recording of their Barrowlands gig last year is crap, because the show was great live. Someone fucked up because the balance on it is shit.
