How much can you all attest to the difference of high quality speakers, headphones, etc? I listen to music through cheap, shitty Coloud headphones and I think this is good, how much of a of a difference do you all actually hear comparatively? It feels incomprehensible to me

At my laptop I just use Foobar, my MDR phones and some "good enough" $80 Logitech setup.
The big old stuff with lights and buttons is just more fun...
Ryan Walker
if you do this bring your own CD to listen to though, otherwise they'll play you stuff that makes any system sound good
Kevin Jackson
theres no way theyre actually good. But remember theres a point where it becomes retarded. Like these crazy speaker designs that do nothing and $3000 power cables are crossing the line
Justin Fisher
> other guy got there first ya, go to a shop that has demo units set up. Remember to bring your own music.
Jackson Sanders

its always acoustic guitar at obnoxious levels. Unironically take dubstep, it will give you a quick overview of the systems response. But of course take your own music, take an upsweep too
Zachary Fisher
I've had this awful setup for several years now of having an aux cord plugged into a fucking 12" fender bass amplifier headphones for serious listening sometimes 12" rockford in the vehicle for even more serious listening

how do u mean
Jayden Carter
or do you just hate mids
Jordan Morales
It's diminishing returns. Each step up in quality is five to ten times as expensive as the previous step.
Eli Carter
The middle is gone
Alexander Murphy
oh well yeah sometimes with metal music on cassette its just gotta be like that imo. that thing is also almost 40 years old and the mids aren't gonna sound too prime to begin with. i'd like to get a Sony ES EQ one day but those high end vintage Sony prices...
Stereo Setup: >NAD amp >Pro-Ject Essential II >Nakamichi cassette player >PSB bookshelf speakers >Aiwa CD player
Mostly listen through my laptop, but I cycle 8 random albums on my phone every month or so and have a pair of Urban Ears as beaters.
Cooper Kelly
Thank you all, was expecting harsh responses
Henry Williams
no its literal placebo. yes diminishing returns is a thing in audio, but most overpriced amps, cables, etc have been shown in every scenario to have no impact on the set up
Carter Smith
This is me except for the shitty Earbuds. I got some pistons which are solid
Austin James
> returns so diminished that it takes special testing equipment far beyond the capabilities of humans to distinguish any difference

Hopefully, I can get a record collection started and run Vintage Pioneer speakers, because I envy my dad's.
If I need to listen to the radio, I have one in my car and one that's either corded or battery-powered.
Joshua Kelly
Oh yeah, I use Foobar for my PC and Phonograph/Bandcamp for my Android Phone.

the funny thing about people like this is that for all their resources and money, they have like no actual taste. Look at his wall, look at that godawful community-college-therapist tier 'art' on the wall. Look at the pseudo "avant" matting of it
Disgusting.

Shit. I live in Chattanooga. So the best you get is either the Spanish Channel for real traditional shit, NPR for Yuppiecore, or Top 40 hits.

Headphones - M50 - ATH-AD700 - M Audio Q40 (I've not use this in years now)
or Spherex EXKBAWKS speakers running only in stereo. The shitty built in amp has issues with digital inputs, resulting in crackle and pop, but the issues don't appear with analog input. So useless for surround, but perfect for stereo. Although I hardly use them now, since I moved into a townhome.
Occasionally will stream something through amazon echo or echo dot.
works fine for me. I've been thinking of find an old CD player and receiver.
I don't listen to portable music anymore and my car is just the stock honda package in the 4th gen crv with MP3 on a usb stick.

Gabriel Thompson
There are actually Sony CD changers that hold 400+ now. I've never had more than 10 in mine once personally, but it was $18 and it works wonderfully. People used these as playlist makers you could program them to shuffle and choose tracks with the remote for many hours of music. MP3 did this for the mass market and kinda cancelled these out, sound quality non-withstanding.
Jackson Gutierrez
just a humble little dual, shure m97xe cart. the 1229 is a really sweet table, works like clockwork.
i run it through a pretty decent pioneer receiver to a pair of polk rt55's. sounds great- maybe when i'm not paying tuition i'll pick up some nicer components.
for tapes i use a toshiba kt-s1 portable player.
