That will not happen. It will flop because the only people who are going to see it are my senior citizen aunt who for some reason love Melissa McCarthy and underage kids who get turned away from whatever R movie they want to see.

Their intention seems to be, to have so much controversy and chatter around the movie people will see it just to judge for themselves, it's curious whether the anti-hype will pay off or people will just dismiss it.

Neckbeards only go see movies they really, really want to see due to the fact that they have to actively fight their social anxiety and somehow work around the no singles policy to even get into the cinema. That's way too much stress and effort to go through for something to watch ironically.

Considering about 90% of Hollywood blockbusters this year are either underperforming or flat out bombing, I'd say the odds are in our favor here.

I honestly struggle to see how Hollywood is going to survive in it's current form, nothing is really making money these days but surprise hits and tentpoles.

It was even more expensive before. It was set to be around $175 before they cut off $20 million in pre-production.

This isnt' about making good movies, it's about making money. Studios see films as "ecosystems of brand initiatives". It's all about multi-media, and merchandise. Ghost Busters has been sitting on the back burner for 20 years, so they want to revive it. It has strong toy possibilities.

They see it as another possiblity for a shared universe as well.

I don't buy that at all. Budgets have certainly gone up. Look at the original films and the remakes. When taking inflation into account, most of the remakes cost 50% to 200% of the originals. The Thing is the only film that was consistant.

I blame the over reliance on CGI. They want everything shot as fast as possible with as little problems. So they shoot on green stages, and use CGI for every effects shot. Cut a check to the computer nerds and they do the rest.

Hollywood has a real push for fast shooting I hear. Jackie Chan has complained about it.
