Hey Sup Forums! Big Prog rock fan here

Hey Sup Forums! Big Prog rock fan here.

I was wondering if y'all can point me towards some new Prog rock bands. I know the big-name ones: King crimson, Yes, Genesis, Rush, Pink Floyd.

My question is, what are some other prog rock bands that I should listen to? King Crimson is my favorite, as my dad introduced me to them a couple years ago. I love them, but they only have so many songs, and after awhile they get stale.

Also, what is JJBA? I see it in the comments of King Crimson videos on YouTube.

No Mystery - Return to Forever
Spider's Dance - Toto Blanke
Ruination - Kairon IRSE
Mahogany Rush IV - Mahogany Rush
The Raven That Refused To Sing - Steven Wilson

Porcupine Tree, Tool, Mars Volta and Oceansize are modern essentials

Out of the Blue by Electric Light Orchestra

Keeping it 70s you might want to look at Camel, they were contemporaries and they have some really good tunes under their belt.

My personal favourite. The ending gets me everytime

Camel and Gentle Giant are essentials

U.K.

...

Van Der Graaf Generator - Godbluff

This is bait

Mandrake Memorial - s/t is a sort of overlooked favorite of mine.

I've never really considered Can to be prog rock, but nevertheless, they are great

youtube.com/watch?v=bRVq80EfoRY
really creative use of instrumentation on this album, and it has aged nicely

Wich is the difference between prog and post rock?
I never really understood it

>my dad introduced me to them a couple years ago. I love them
Or maybe you are looking for the aprove of youre father
Hmmmmmm

Is normal this sound fucking bad?

Magma - Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh, Kohntarkosz and K.A.

Gong - Flying Teapot, Angel's Egg, You and Camembert Electrique

Czesław Niemen - Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 (2 is more "proggy")

Area - Arbeit Macht Frei

Dun - Eros

Eskaton - 4 Visions

Samla Mammas Manna - Maltid

Kultivator - Barndomens Stigar

Henry Cow - everything

Colosseum - Valentyne Suite

Don't forget Pawn Hearts

Maybe...

Are you implying this album is bad? If so it's time for you to go back to your pop-punk and never look back

I second Camel. Mirage and Moonmadness are excellent albums.

A lot of those suck and there's not a single Tool album on there.

Frances The Mute

Consider the source

A good starter song is tihai for the straight guy or put another rock in that bag

>2 Maudlin of the Well and the best Kayo Dot albums
>bad

No, im saying about the sound, production, it sound very "low volume"/"empty"? I had downloade in different quality...

>Tool
>Good
Total Pleb
Hey OP! Here's a better chart.

>
its there a thing as Progressive Pop?

Yes, see Kate Bush

Would 80s Yes count with some of their songs such as Changes?

bandcamp.com/tag/progressive-rock

Ok, in that case you may stay, it might be your download because that's definitely not what I hear

She is not...
I guess, liek genesis

>XDDD EVERYTHING IS A MEME
Not everyone knows about your autism that you like to call everything a meme you don't like only to fuck with people

The Dregs (start with What If, ignore their first two albums), Focus, Ekseption, Djam Karet, Ozric Tentacles, MacKenzie Theory, Pekka Pohjola's first three albums

Hey that's my chart

Mew
Everything Everything

this is prog rock

Hey OP, i thing JJBA is the name of the anime (JoJo bizarre adventures) where we could hear the Yes song, Roundabout. I don't know why it's in the comments of king crimson video doe

Not OP, but since when is Yes actually classified as Prog Rock?

10cc - The Original Soundtrack

taxi to apooloo, sir?

what

idk, i just said what JJBA means

Space Ritual by Hawkwind
The prog rock band Lemmy played bass in before Motorhead.
Space Ritual is a live album but it's their best release.

im so green best

OP here. I always classified Yes as Prog rock. There 1970's era music (Time and a word-Tormato albums in between those are considered prog.) Then 1980's to present they've adopted a poppy feel. I mean their official website is: Yesworld.com where it says "Official website for the progressive rock band YES"

Why is it bait? OP here.

Eh, not really prog

I just listened to this and it's really good. Definitely recommend this op

same. I listened to every one throughout the day. Some were really good, others were okay (I put all those on my Spotify.) Others were not my kind of prog style but that's okay.

This. youtube.com/watch?v=pAY_LBXziY4

For Zappa fans, I'd definitely recommend Dun - Eros.

Not sure if this counts as prog or not but A Little Man and a House and the Whole World Window is pretty enjoyable

*raises spork*

gazpacho

>Everything discussed commonly is a meme

They had a bad studio at the time, and got a better one during Ege Bamyasi.

Try Van Der Graaf Generator
youtube.com/watch?v=RvhtpfPvYas

Sing To God is a bit more proggy
xd

I saw Diagonal so APPROVED CHART.

Crime of the Century by Supertramp
Script for a Jester's tear by Marillion

This is my favorite album by a prog band that wasn't really famous

Comments in the video are because there is a character in Jojo Bizarre Adventures with a power named King Crimson.

But PFM (and Banco, for that matter) were very successful outside Italy, especially in Britain where they charged quite well and toured.

Charged should say charted

Haken - The Mountain

prog is more about nooding and post is unconventional song structure

Island - Pictures
Thors Hammer - S/t
Comus - First Utterance
Dedalus - S/t
Earthrise - S/t
Embryo - Opal
Gentle Giant - In a Glass House and Octopus
Happy The Man - S/t
Le Orme - Felona e Sorona
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Birds Of Fire
Museo Rosenbach - Zarathustra
Peter Hammill - Silent Corner & the Empty Stage (more art rock than prog rock but still good)
Premiata Forneria Marconi - Per Un Amico
Van Der Graaf Generator - Godbluff and Still Life
Most of these are obscure/semi-obscure prog rock bands/albums. All are fantastic prog though.

Great share, thanks for that one !
