I didn't get to finish the 70s one last night unfortunately due to the how late it was (I apologize for that)
So! We got some options! We can talk swapouts for the 70s chart, OR we can just dive right into the 80s. Your call. Let's have fun with this
Robert Allen
Let's get right into the 80's, AKA the period of metalkino
Oliver Adams
Ask and ye shall recieve.
Will post basic-bitch 80s chart soon. (Formatting takes some time, also GTA)
Connor Parker

Isaac Diaz
Man who sold the world is metal?
Justin Clark
there's too much niche garbage on here to even get started
Isaac Wilson
I thought it counted because of the heavy guitars and lyrical content. I was wrong.
Well we're doing both charts so you're more than welcome to offer some.
Dylan Wright
AND WE'RE OFF!
Carson Hernandez
Would metalheads be mad if I posted a link to this thread in a metal general?
Xavier Morales
/metal/ is literally just shitposting nowadays, don't bother Anyways, can't forget this good ol hickey dickey
Lucas Robinson
Might as well post an update.
Nicholas Cook
No one wants you dead huh? Anyways, add this too
Grayson Wright
Yes sir...
Julian Howard
>Shivering in your boots so hard you delete your completely anonymous post kek. I already traced your IP faggot
@71731522
Isaac Diaz
Well shit.
I had a good life. (No I didn't)
Juan Wright
Have a look at these.
Noah Rivera
My take on early/pre metal.
Julian Moore
Cheers.
Gabriel Ortiz
Respect for making these, my man. Look like pretty cool charts.
Jaxson Gray
You need to start fleshing out the early 80s.
More Motorhead, Sabbath's Heaven and Hell/Mob Rules, Mercyful Fate, Venom, Iron Maiden, and early doom like Witchfinder General, Trouble
Asher Rodriguez
Currently working on a basic first wave black metal list i will post here in a couple of minutes
Michael Brown
You guys seem really cool. I like that. :)
I was worried about the reaction but you all seem like really nice guys (Aside from that jerk who threatened to trace my ip)
Aiden Watson
>1981 Venom - Welcome to Hell >1982 Venom - Black Metal >1983 Hellhammer - Satanic Rites >1984 Bathory - s/t Hellhammer - Apocalyptic Raids Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales >1985 Bathory - The Return Sodom - In the Sign of Evil Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion >1986 Sepultura - Morbid Visions >1987 Bathory - Under the Sign of the Black Mark Sarcofago - INRI Mayhem - Deathcrush Poison - Into the Abyss >1988 Bathory - Blood Fire Death >1989 Tormentor - Anno Domini
I tried to leave out stuff that wasn't to important and narrowed it down to this. Tormentor, Poison, and some of the excess Hellhammer/Celtic Frost releases can be replaced if necessary
Joshua Turner
1980 Diamond Head - Lightning to the Nations Angel Witch - s/t Saxon - Strong Arm Of The Law
James Russell
These 2 confirmed Kino as fuck.
Dominic Green
>1980: Saxon - Strong Arm of the Law >1981: Riot - Fire Down Under >1982: Pagan Altar - Pagan Altar >1983: Thin Lizzy - Thunder and Lightning >1984: Bathory - Bathory >1985: Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion >1986: Fates Warning - Awaken the Gardian >1987: Coroner - R.I.P. >1988: Sabbat - History of a Time to Come >1989: Pestilence - Consuming Impulse
(I'm scared a'ma have to add Cannibal Corpse on the other charts)
Ayden Anderson
Seventh Star and Eternal Idol need to be removed, they're awful albums. 86-87 were packed with metal classics and need the space. Napalm Death's Scum isn't a metal album either, grindcore, nigga.
Liam Lopez
>We're getting into sub genres now Me scared scared.
Choose what I shall replace them with, friend.
Joshua Hill
>86: Destruction - Eternal Devastation 87: Coroner - R.I.P. Pentagram - Day of Reckoning
Landon Anderson
Thanks. Will post update asap (rocky)
Angel Gutierrez
How's this Papa?
Leo Ward
1980 Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard Of Ozz
1981 Ozzy Osbourne - Diary of a Madman Tygers Of Pan Tang - Spellbound Holocaust - The Nightcomers Cirith Ungol - Frost and Fire
1982 Witchfinder General - Death Penalty
Owen Smith
>1983 Slayer - Show no Mercy >1984 Slayer - Haunting the Chapel Destruction - Sentence of Death >1985 Slayer - Hell Awaits Possessed - Seven Churches Destruction - Infernal Overkill >1986 Slayer - Reign in Blood Dark Angel - Darkness Descends
Lucas Cox
>grindcore isn't metal Um....
Bentley Ramirez
Scum definitely isn't metal at least.
Zachary Bell
Scum is far more on the punk side of things to my ears. FETO draws heavier on death metal, but I'm probably just splitting hairs.
Luis Cox
1987 -Priest... Live! +Sacrifice - Forward to Termination
Also not sure what that Hypocrisy album is doing there.
Joseph Wilson
>Also not sure what that Hypocrisy album is doing there. Had the wrong album.
Was suppose to be Poison not Hypocricy. My bad.
Jayden Barnes
DO NOT DO ALBUMS
BANDS ONLY
Camden Hernandez
>Do not do albums
...That's not a good idea at all.
Ryder Price
there's also that "the blood rituals" album on there in 85
Cooper Lopez
THAT was me mixing up different 'To Mega Theorin's'
Notice how the correct one I added next to it like an idiot instead of realizing my mistake.
Jayden Hughes
Are you fucking high? There are way too many. Write the bands only and then a 4x4 e.g. Metallica - kea, rtl, mop, ajfo. Then if an important band only had one album then still just write the band but of course picture just that album. If the band has less than 4 albums then the best must be chosen to avoid a square of 2 or 3. However this is more work but far better use of the limited 120 squares.
Sebastian Perez
Bro this is how I've done LITERALLY every chart.
Doing 'artists' would be taking the easy way out
We are not fucking with the formula, Brian.
Jack Jackson
How in the fuck is that the easy way out? We would have to find way more significant albums to fill the chart. Your way is a total copout wasting 4 squares for insanely obvious bands like metallica
Ayden Hughes
Fine, if you can get ONE person to back you up, I'll completely fuck up the format I've done literally every single genre chart I've done up to now just to satisfy you.
Anthony Moore
1984 Cirith Ungol - King of the Dead Jag Panzer- Ample Destruction
1985 Fates Warning - The Spectre Within
1987 -Motorhead - Rock 'n' Roll +King Diamond - Abigail
Brandon Murphy
To satisfy me? Look at how many obvious bands are missing. 120 bands is arguably too few but it seems at least possible. 120 albums is laughable. This chart will not be taken seriously by anyone except plebs.
Anthony Stewart
>1988: Morbid Saint - Spectrum of Death Sadus - Illusions Vio-lence - Eternal Nightmare
Alexander Parker
>using plebs to justify your argument
The point of this isn't to include every damn metal album. It's to include a handful that Sup Forums thinks are important/good.
Plus: Would I ONLY be doing this for the 80s? Would I have to change the ones for the other genres? This is the format I've done for the whole series and I see no reason to change it.
If it were 'so easy' to get 120 albums we'd have them by now. 120 albums is plenty of albums for a decade of a genre.
Also: What 'obvious bands'? They would have easily been included by now if you just said what albums to include. I can swap out ANY repeats.
Zachary James
The big 4 aren't even included ru4reel
Jonathan Moore
Slayer, Metallica, and Megadeth are already on there.
All that's missing is Anthrax and I could easily throw one of their albums in.
Samuel Taylor
Among The Living, because that's the only thing Anthrax ever did worth a shit.
Nathan Sullivan
...
William Garcia
You're doing fine work, Chartguy. Carry on.
Jaxson Rodriguez
Thank you very much, sir.
Sorry bud I saw your message after I posted the update. I can switch it around don't worry.
Dominic Robinson
Nah, Fistful of Metal is the best.
Angel Jones
Oh ok I missed Megadeth but still. Well you're doing the work so it's up to you but coming up with 120 important metal bands from the 80s is very possible if not easy. Ill toss out one that I dont think you would be mentioned. Ministry who might even have a 4x4. Land of Rape and Honey, Mind Is Terrible Thing to Taste, Psalm 69 then maybe toss in the live album to get a 4x4. All of these albums are way more metal than at least some of the albums already listed.
Isaac Richardson
>coming up with 120 important metal bands I'm sure we'll be up to 120 by the end of this.
We're doing metal charts for EVERY decade. Having 120 artists for one decade is frankly unnecessary. I understand you're very passionate about the genre, and I get it, you really want people to discover as much of it as they can. I completely understand. I just feel like it's unnecessary to have 120 artists.
I'm sorry for being rude to you earlier but I'm gonna have to respectfully decline doing artists.
I will be happy to add some of your suggestions though.
Joshua Howard
Aw crap half of those Ministry albums are actually 90s and Mind is Terrible actually only barely squeaks into the 80s. Well this may be a little more difficult but still that should be the point.
James Gomez
1983 Manilla Road - Crystal Logic Dio - Holy Diver
1984 Saint Vitus - s/t
Brayden Garcia
> I just feel like it's unnecessary to have 120 artists. Then you are way underestimating 80s metal
Carson Flores
Severe lack of Exodus - Bonded by Blood here
Isaiah Baker
>The Land of Rape and Honey I can't tell if that's the best or worst album name I've ever seen in my life.
Buddy. I am doing FIVE decade charts for metal. That's why I don't wanna overblow one decade.
It's already scary enough I might have to put Cannibal Corpse on one of the charts. That's sacrifise enough for me.
I promise you what I can get on these charts will be as good of a representation of your favorite genre as I can make it.
Juan Reyes
Crimson Glory - Transcendence (1988) Running Wild - Death or Glory (1989) Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys part I (1987)
Dominic Brown
It could be done for every decade although it seems most intimidating for the 70s. Think of it this way, if this is done fairly then multiple albums from bands would almost always get switched out for a band thay wasnt even mentioned at all. So basically the only question is if you want a single album to represent bands or a 4x4. Seriously if you kept this thread open and didn't simply move on then that is guaranteed what would happen.
Tyler Sanchez
1983
-Ministry -Suicidal Tendencies
+Satan - Court in the Act +Accept - Balls to the Wall
Julian Harris
>So basically the only question is if you want a single album to represent bands or a 4x4 Between the two? Single albums, if necessary. There's no problem with one or two albums representing an artist (though it rarely happens anyway)
Levi Richardson
1981 Def Leppard - High 'n' Dry Motley Crue - Too Fast for Love Demon - Night of the Demon Saxon - Denim and Leather
Gabriel Howard
1980 Quartz - Stand Up and Fight
Brayden Brooks
Savatage - Hall of the Mountain King (1987) Omen - Battle Cry (1983) Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime (1988) Warlord - And the Canons if Destruction Have Begun (1984) Metal Church - Metal Church (1984) Helstar - Nosferatu (1989) Riot - Thundersteel (1988)
Bentley Hughes
When I saw Clash of the Titans festival in 1989 they played Ministry - The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste between sets and everybody went apeshit. They qualify.
Easton Mitchell
Excuse me 1990
Logan Ward
yeah, but not With Sympathy
Daniel Richardson
>Excuse me 1990 You're excused.
Nathaniel Ward
1983 was an incredible year for metal. Here are some other contenders:
Heavy Load - Stronger Than Evil Savage - Loose 'N Lethal Witchfinder General - Friends Of Hell Warlord - Deliver Us Raven - All for One Anvil - Forged in Fire Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil Exciter - Heavy Metal Maniac Savatage - Sirens
Leo Davis
Omg I didn't even see that holy shit. LMfAO
Zachary Garcia
Well that's dandy friend but
A: If you want something replaced in 83 you gotta say what. B: I'd prefer to focus on the wasteland that is the empty 82 year so far.
Jeremiah Collins
Why do you give a shit what year it is?
Eli Young
Because that's how the chart's organized? That's how EVERY chart has been organized. Each row is a year.
That's the ENTIRE reason the series is called 'X genre' by year'
Matthew Perry
1982
Heavy Load - Death or Glory Anvil - Metal on Metal Accept - Restless and Wild Tank - Filth Hounds of Hades Raven - Wiped Out More - Blood & Thunder
Brody Morgan
I would replace Another Perfect Day and Born Again with whatever the other guy wants.
Ryan Hernandez
That's fucking retarded, you'll be leaving out important albums that way.
Charles Allen
Why would you take off ST? Among other reasons Dave Lombardo is their drummer now. Pretty sure that says where their priorities are. Musically they were far more important to metal than punk.
Evan Allen
agreed Savage - Loose 'N Lethal Raven - All for One
Aaron Clark
Relax, the chart can be expanded if needed
Brandon Martin
Well I'm sorry you weren't there for the 16 other threads I did in the exact same style to nag about how I do these.
It's not suppose to include every single metal album. Just a little from each year to give people a sample of what it was like around that time. Same thing I did for the jazz and hip hop charts.
Logan Young
Well whatever.
Jack Collins
It's an important crossover album. Certainly it could stay but 12 slots is tough for 83.
Not arguing against the format, though, it is what it is.
Luis Russell
Because it's more challenging that way. Your mission is to find strong metal albums from 1982
Liam Murphy
Well true I'd agree then if we're thinking 12 per year
Luis Gomez
Max for topsters is 12 columns. Don't know why.
Either way I think 120 albums of a genre for a decade should be plenty.
Austin Evans
Well, I'm fookin beat, so off to bed. Good work, Chartdude.
Lucas Lee
DON'T LEAVE ME WE HAVE MORE TO DO!
Andrew Murphy
what happened to that raven cover
Jaxson Anderson
I clicked download too early. It's there normally now.
