That isn't quite accurate. Multiple government agencies approved that deal, and it wasn't "selling off". It was allowing a Russian owned company based in Toronto to mine Uranium in the US. This doesn't impact us strategically, and was also done at time when the US and Russia were on relatively good terms. Once Russia moved to annex Crimea, shot down a civilian jet liner, etc - things changed.
