Firefly

Why was such a good show killed so young? How did it manage to nail every one of the 14 episodes produced so perfectly?
Why is there no justice in this world?

Dunno but I went in wanting to hate it because I love being contrarian but ended up finishing it and wanting more. I think its main appeal is well crafted characters and a good dynamic between them.
It was a scifi quip show before capeshit became quipshit.

>mal will never bang inara then turn evil for a season

>It was a scifi quip show
>Joss Whedon at the helm
who would've thought
Thanks for the reminder to never pick this up

The quips work in Firefly because they are used in appropriate contexts and by appropriate characters and in ways that don't pause things or break the mood for the sake of attempting humor.

The whole thing has a distinctly libertarian and anti-authority edge to it though, which is not what you'd expect from Whedon.

i'm trying to remember when witty dialogue in comedy-drama shows became a bad thing...i simply don't get the hate joss whedon gets on this board. i mean as far as his personal opinions go, sure, but his work?

They aired it out of order, including not playing the pilot first, so people were confused, and didn't watch it.

I know Joss Whedon used a fuckton of quips in Avengers thanks to this board
Haven't watched anything of him. Now I see this was by Joss Whedon, and the first thing I see is that it's a quip show

what is quip'
???

meh, back in pre-interent days most people watched shit out of order. i accidentally saw my first episode of buffy in mid-season two and kept watching, the nature of tv shows is that it's easy to catch up. i mean unless it's really complex shit

>letting Sup Forums memes form your opinion for you

wew lad

>Capeshit
>Everyone says there's a ton of quips
Yeah, no

That may be, but not when you're checking out a show that they are advertising as being new, only to come out of the "first episode" not even sure who these people are, or why they are doing anything they are doing.

he's lying. there's no one on earth who hasn't seen Angel and Buffy, at least a few episodes

I don't give a damn who made it but Firefly is some of the finest sci-fi ever aired and Serenity a similar film.

>such a good show killed so young
It's not so much that as it is regarded as so good because it was cancelled. It ended before it started degrading as literally every show does.

aren't you listening?! it has QUIPS! it's trash!

cast of the show is old now

I've never seen a show open as strong as Firefly did. For comparison, one of the TNG writers themselves described the first two seasons as 'basically unwatchable'.

>It's not so much that as it is regarded as so good because it was cancelled.
Correct on that note, but most shows don't find their footing for the first few seasons, and get better before they start going downhill.

>good show

I haven't

I've never seen either show. I've been told by multiple sources that I would enjoy Buffy, but I've never seen a single episode.

why not, you're too busy shitposting on Sup Forums?

Whedon hasn't made anything good after 2003.
Prove me wrong.

Serenity was pretty damn good.

that show wasn't THAT good, be honest with yourselves.

cabin in the woods. and avengers was good for superhero movies, not everything can be capekino

So shepherd Book was an ex-operative or what?

We'll never know for sure.

he was someone of importance, that much is known
whether he was some old war hero or just a famous diplomat, we're not sure

>Fox didn't like the show
>Fox aired the series in the wrong order
>Fox didn't advertise the show properly
>low viewership as a result of confused and small audience

Fucking Fox.

i don't understand characters like that. religiousfags that have always been that way, fine, i get it. but all these "cool" priests you see in tv nowadays with troubled badass pasts who one day just go "okay guess now i'll be a minister lol"? what the fuck?

What are the chances for a Netflix revival? I mean Castle is finally over, so it frees Nathan Fillion up, and the other actors are more or less free I'd think. It'd take place years later obviously.

doesn't fox still have the rights?

It is how they seek redemption.

many people who were immoderate in their youth seek redemption of one kind or another later on

>tfw I will never live on a space ship and go on adventures

so go be a fucking crossing guard or a doctor or a cop or a lawyer for the poor, what the fuck does religion have to do with redemption?

>what the fuck does religion have to do with redemption?

>first episode is Mal assembling the crew again after they split due to Wash's death and not having a pilot

Yes pls

I want to contact Joss and ask him the chances. He and all the actors were strongly attached to the show, and made attempts to reboot before Netflix existed. I think if any show should get a Netflix second chance, it's Firefly

That's what I got from it.

Firefly is one of those shows where Sup Forums's natural contrariness breaks down because it is genuinely good.

>not having a pilot
But they do.

Hey there reddit

You'd think by now Joss would have the money and influence to make whatever he wants. I think maybe they don't want to go back to it

i'm just saying, god's either there or he isn't being a priest i a completely useless profession, if you want to redeem yourself there are more practical ways to help people than pretending to know what god wants, especially when you're the type of person who doesn't start out religious

>they make little nods to the audience about what they were doing in the meantime
shit like
>So what have you been doing since we last flew together?
>Well, I got a job as a doctor for a couple years before that job ended prematurely
I know it's hamfisted and the quippy kind of shit that Sup Forums hates, but that's exactly the kind of thing I would expect from this show.

I could never make my mind up on her.

On the hand it's fucking Kaylee but on the other why the hell did they kill off Carson?

Because it's a sjw reddit cuck (((flick))) kino big guy for you what did he mean by this?

See I was the opposite. I went in wanting to love it. This was way before the Whedon hate train pull out of the station. But I just wasn't feeling it. I had the exact same problem with it that I had with the Avengers.

It's one of those things where they probably don't think they could recapture the magic. Serenity was the final push and that's pretty much that.
I also don't think it would survive the Next Generation treatment, you'd just end up with not-Mal and not-Mal's not-crew on the not-Firefly class not-Serenity.

i want you to do something for yourself, okay man? i want you to turn off your computer for a few days and go outside. Sup Forums is giving you brain damage

That's how most people felt, and exactly why they did that asspull of a revival with his clone.

jewel top tier cummy container

I'd just keep the same actors/characters, being an even older more grizzled crew, add some new blood as well. I think it'd be awesome. Although I wouldn't want Wash to be dead

>all you need to do to sleep with her is show her a good enough ship engine
what a slut

what's your favorite Whedon quip?

>I was aiming for his head!

If we're talking Firefly. There's probably better in Buffy/Angel but it's been a while since I've watched them.

"Women are objects no different from a microwave or a blender, it may seem like the warranty has run out and that it is time to trade in for a newer model but you'd be surprised how often all it takes is a little tap to get the motors running again" Nailthon Fileon in Serenity.

I cannot claim that I was expecting that reveal. Kind of conflicts with how everybody treats her as the ship's resident innocent flower but I guess that was the point.

remember saffron? christina hendricks before she became a landwhale, oh my

What would a Whedon show on cable look like?

Whedon casts himself as the main character and the plot revolves around him punching women in the face in order to save the world from an ill defined threat that may or may not even exist.

If you can eat a strawberry for pleasure and still be called innocent, why can't you take a cock for pleasure and also be called innocent?

I've been watching Buffy and the first few seasons are pretty rough

Whedon should just direct porn.

If you read the comic series that takes place after Serenity they establish River as the pilot. Mal also finally gets with Inara, and Zoe is pregnant with Wash's baby.

Watch cowboy bebop, its what inspired this tv series.

Dubbed is fine...

You're baiting really hard for a fedora tip response. Why? The more you post and the longer you don't get one, the more euphorically you've been posting.

Firefly is set in a world where proper food is rather scarce unless you live in the core worlds, unlike cocks.
And if it weren't, there's still a big jump from eating strawberry, not even sensually, to riding dick of someone you just met
