Nationalism is harder, it requires sacrifice. It is a struggle. You have to fight and work for a future for your nation, basically strangers and your family, which requires you to have children.

Modern society is all about taking it easy. This is why people don't have children, this is why they divorce, everything is about getting the most satisfaction out of life. People who took it naturally that life is a hard struggle valued the results of that struggled, so they were nationalistic.

They knew that every man is weak and fragile, so you have to work together for common goals. Modern technology sort of gave immense satisfaction to people and helped them achieve a state of life, where you can have a chance of a life full of pleasure, so people have a hard time sacrificing, they don't think you need to.

If you know, you can die in a disease, due to failed harvest or in an accident easily, you're more willing to fight. And you don't think waging a war is all that horrible. Yeah people die, but they die anyway. Of course wars are still horrible, but the gain is comparable to the invested value.

When society is progressing technologically like now, wars would be devastating and unnecessary, so we don't have wars.

When people can live comfortable lives and don't care about their families they won't have families. Of course family can be joyful too, but in the past it was a necessity. Now it isn't so many people just don't bother, they have sex, but that's it.

Nationalism wasn't killed by the Nazis, it was made obsolete by modern society and modern social values.
