Dark Souls-like Movies

Anyone know any movies that are like Dark Souls? Surely there must be a bleak fantasy epic out there with interesting lore that isn't just LOTR/DnD-lite?

Hard To Be God, OP youtube.com/watch?v=11sMDQIgggA

I've seen the german one, should I watch anything else?

The Seventh Seal

BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF

Wow it's been forever since I saw that. I remember thinking it was badass when I was younger tho.

This is not really fantasy, but I think Herzog's Aguirre - Wrath of God shares a similar atmosphere to HTBG and Dark Souls.

>I've seen the german one
You mean the 1984 one?

This?

You should definitely watch the newer mubi.com/films/hard-to-be-a-god-2013

Valhalla Rising was pretty bleak, but it wasn't fantasy. Might be up your alley.

>You mean the 1984 one?
yeah

shouldn't I watch the original one?
also, have you seen the german? is it the same?

I've only seen the 2013 one which was lovely.

Also 'On the Silver Globe' mubi.com/films/on-the-silver-globe

It's probably nothing alike but it reminded me, what's that one movie where this guy throws a sword into the ground and sets an army of goons on fire?

Saw a webm around here but never saved it.

Macbeth from last year, has Fassbender innit.

Monty Python and The Holy Grail (seriously)

Return to Oz (1985)

Solomon Kane (2009)

Willow (1988)

Begotten

Gotta chuckle about some of the recommendations here to be honest. You don't hit the tone at all.

MP&THG honestly has lot of Souls like images.

This.

The atmosphere of the movies is fundamentally different and the costume design is that of clichee stereotypes used as parody whereas DS has a lot of historical stuff in it.

THG has lots of historical allusion and allegories to it. Sure, the atmosphere it is different but the imagery is something to keep in mind.

And last time I played DS1 I had some laughs.

Bloodborne on the other hand.. that's shit is dark

Angel's Egg

The road

Yeah, sure. When I think of Dark Souls I think of a dystopian family drama with lots of crying and no action, too.
