"Give me free money or I'll fuck with your food"
-Burgerland

I'm not sure about Burgerland Sr., but in Canada servers make significantly less than minimum wage and depend on tipping for literal survival.

discord.gg/eKAb32w

if they get below minimum wage why does that make me responsible for paying their wages?

not having any idea how tipping works
"give me good service or fuck your tip"

strawpoll.me/12124886 cats

>In Canada

Are you fucking retarded?

Shouldn't they give good service regardless? isn't that their job?

because instead of doubling the price of your food to pay a set wage, they are letting you decide how much your server deserves, which encourages better service

yes, in Utopia, people do their job well regardless of whether that affects their pay

So you're saying that regardless of how well they did they're entitled to my money?

Let me dumb it down for you with two examples:
1) I go to a restaurant and get incredible, friendly, helpful service... the check is for 48 dollars, and I tip 10 bucks.
2) I go to a second restaurant and get shitty, slow, insolent service... the check is for 48 dollars, I leave no tip.
In your preferred system, the two servers would receive the same wage and no tips.

"You know what this is? Its the world's smallest violin playing just for the waitresses."

It could be arranged differently. Instead of charging you ten dollars for a breakfast plate and you leaving a two dollar tip, they could just pay her more and charge you twelve dollars.
You would get shitty service, but fuck you.

I only tip if the food is good. seasoned well l and cooked how I wanted it.

fuck the servers.

If you can't afford to tip, then eat at McDonalds poorfag.

Why it would be shitty? You paid them to do their job, if they are niggers then yea you will get shitty service but I do not see when they as a normal workers would not do proper job

when I eat out with my family, we're Chinese btw. I never tip. fucking degenerates don't need anymore money, they get free food from the kitchen, fucking mother fuckers begging for more money.

suck on my chong dong.

>"I don't understand who the tip goes to"
Welcome to earth, new guy
They finger their buttholes and smear it on your cuisine

poor servant busser detected. go clean some tables bitch.

i can't believe you really care about our culture and customs so much that you would take the time to post about part of it you don't like. it al evens out in the end because we would be paying more for the Bill if the business owner had to pay the servers what they are worth. if they did away with tipping you would get a bottom of the barrel worker and shit service.

Beg pardon?

This

you do realize you they don't know if you are going to tip well or not till you are done eating you dumb motherfucker

Then the cunts should pay their workers without doubling the prices.

From what i hear if you don;t tip they remember you and fuck with you next time

ha, no, just not a dickhead
worked in a restaurant in between high school and college, learned what it looks like from that side

>being a nigger and a Jew at the same time

satan doesn't tip, go figure

but if I get such service I don't tip, I probably am
not going back.

precisely... if the service is shitty, you don't tip and you don't go back
if instead you think the food and service is great and you still don't tip and you go back, they'll smear fecal matter on your entree
I knew one waitress you put menstrual blood on a non-tipper's burger

only a complete ass hole will totally stiff a server
shitty service gets small tip great service gets good tip. what i do is since they say 15-20 percent shitty service gets 10% 15-20% for average 25%+ for outstanding

And this is the fault of the customer how?
Also there is more than just Terrible service and 'here's some free money' service

Well then I'm REALLY not going to tip.

in a system where it's understood that certain people are essentially independent sub-contractors paid by clients through tips, if you stiff them it's basically expecting them to work for sub-minimum wage. Because that is the system that exists. So expect them to fuck you up.

you don't have to, just never go to the same restaurant twice

people who don't tip frankly deserve it
If i don't feel like tipping on a given day there are plenty of fast casual restaurants where no tip is expected. some of those places put out tip jars and i some times throw my change in i'm against it in theory.

No they don't deserve it. Just because some entitled cunt didnt get some free cash, he has the right to fuck someone over?

just because you're too retarded to understand how the system works is no reason to get upset; just let your wrangler handle the check.

>go to a chinese buffet for special occasions
>retarded dad tips $10 every time

REEEEEEEEEEE

If you accept a job that pays below minimum wage i think you need the wrangler
Also learn how to spell cheque you fucking tard

you don't understand the definition of free they ar waiting on you, eat fast food if you have a problem not being a cheap motherfucker. Or better yet stay out of America and you won't need to worry about it.If you want to be here follow our customs if you don't like our customs then you shouldn't want to be here

start making your own money so mommy and daddy dont have to keep paying for din din

>free
Its a social contract
You want to steal service

>they are waiting on you
Yes thats what their employer should pay them a full wage for. If they don;t, it;s not my fault

buffet supposed to tip 1$ per person for getting drinks and clear plates retard

...

I spell check the way superpowers spell it, Sanjay, not the way Pakis in a fallen empire do

I am so glad they shit on your plate

Don't be an ass to the people that handle your food.

Especially if you ever plan to go there more than once.

how's it feel being a poor, cheap, penny pinching cunt

You got me, guess I'll go back to my job where I don't have to beg people to pay my wage

Or, and this is just a theory, they could charge you $15, pay the server a decent wage, and fire her ass if she gives shitty service.
Its a radical idea, but I reckon it could actually work.

Captcha... topkek

Just to clear up a common misconception: servers make less than minimum wage as in the hourly wage made without their tips is less than minimum wage. BUT, if they don't receive any tips for that hour, the restaurant is legally required to up the hourly wage given to meet that quota. It's just that that never happens because servers almost always make more than enough tips. In fact, servers usually make quite a bit more than minimum wage, often two to three times easy. So it's funny to hear how much they bitch about "not making minimum wage" when this is literally not even a problem for them and if it was, it would be taken care of anyway.

you do realize as a customer it is you who pays the server either way but with a tip you controll how much so if you get a nigger who slacks off you can teach them a lesson if you get a college student who goes the extra mile and tries hard you can reward them it's like instant karma

It is your fault entirely. If you enter a restaurant of your own free will, where it is understood that you are paying your server, you take the responsiblity immediately upon allowing them to serve you in good faith that they will be paid.

3 people

Exactly, they'll make their money regardless so there's no reason for me to pay.
>you are paying
NO, the fucking owner is paying them, or should be

No, their "job" is simply to provide you with the minimum threshold of service, that is to take your order and bring you your food. The quality of service has a lot more variation for something like a waiter (or really anyone who personally assists) and so incentive plays a larger role than in other jobs

Regardless of the wage paid, tipping is optional, and servers know that.

If service is exceptional, then I will tip. Positive reinforcement for preferable behavior. I will also tip if an issue is rectified properly without further incident.

Poor service will not only yield no tip, but the manager will be made aware of the poor service.

If service is par, I will not tip, as the server has done their job in a neutral and minimalistic manner. While this service isn't bad, it doesn't deserve positive reinforcement.

Its that simple, and going about it any other way is to be foolish.

I'll tip if my service from the server/waiter was above expectation. I do believe that the tip system is a good way to give a server incentive to do a good job; that being said, it also causes some servers to still do a half-assed job and expect a tip anyway. I will not tip a server that doesn't earn it. If you smile, make me feel welcome, and set a tone that allows me to enjoy my time at your restaurant, I will pay that friendliness back with a tip because you told me through your actions that you wanted one. If you're a kid that doesn't care about doing a decent job, then you obviously don't care about the reward that goes along with one.

tl;dr I tip, but I see tipping as a reward and not an obligation.

>hurr durr they'll treat you worse next time if you don't tip
If you didn't give me an experience worthy of tipping the first time, I won't come back. Simple as that.

>not having a enclosed cabinet rack so your server risks to tip

No you are, it was already decided. So stop crying about how it isnt fair and cook your own food and put it on your own table, petunia.

Exactly, I enjoy tipping good service, but receiving a tip is not a right, it's a privilege that must be earned.

>no i said so

tipping supporters give good reasons the tip system is superior
and all you have is but their boss should be the one to pay them

Which is true. What's your point?

Servers are paid les then min wage in most cases and have to deal with picky, ignorant, customers. Those of you who think they should not tip (when getting good service) are cheap assholes who should just stay home and make their own food.

yes they should but people are people and some are lazy and selfish this is why socialism why good in theory doesn't work in practice

>your pre-existing culture said so
Cry about it more, snowflake.

You mean like a mail server?

>it exists therefore it's good

OMG you dont know what your server identify as checksum your privilegies

If someone says a nasty yo mama joke and I get served, do I have to tip them?

>shitty service gets small tip

No tip.
Why encourage bad behaviour in even the slightest degree?

...

>whining about $4.37

>$4.37 tip
What did you buy, a McChicken?

what you don't grasp is either way it is the customer who pays the tip, as the boss gets the money to pay the employee from the customer

no service = no tip
shitty service= shitty tip
did you walk into the kitchen to get your food? perhaps your server is new cheap pricks look for any excuse not to tip and are shitty people

Who said its good?
It is a social contract you entered yourself. If you dont pay you are a cunt.

I feel like if the server goes out of his way to ignore you/has a bad attitude, then no tip. But if it's like a really busy day and he/she has his hands full then small tip is fine.

The argument isnt 'what is the system?', it's 'what's wrong with the system?'

the argument is stay in Europe if you don't like how we do it here we have enough foreigners trying to change our great country

That's about a $20 bill, a person eating out.

How much are mcchickens where you live and why on earth do you tip at McDonald's?

But, let's not digress, would $10 sound better as the basis for a philosophical stance on tipping?

>our great country

just wait till friday at noon motherfucker

OK. Then what?

Waiter here, the tip jar is divided and handed out equally to all staff at the end of the week. It's a good boost to morale for the entire team and greatly appreciated, even though it may not amount to much when divvied up. Give a tip when you enjoyed the food and the service, don't if you didn't. It's the classy thing to do. In my restaurant, the food is good and I have good customer relations, so most people give tips. Those who don't are usually shabby-looking, and you can tell they feel uncomfortable about not giving tips because they avoid eye contact and try to leave as quickly as possible. They tend also to gorge themselves on bread and ask for tap water instead of mineral

Mfw everyone misunderstood the OP.

>bottom of the barrel worker
Yeah. Now only the high achievers get into the lucrative food serving industry

This... and I've been bartending for 7 years. I rely on tips for literal survival. I will give good consistent service to everyone, no matter if you tip or not. It's what is professionally correct in my mind. This is what I signed up for when I chose this career, it is stupid for me to become emotionally attached to whether or not you tip me. If I have a hard time with the ammo of money I made in a day, well maybe I should look for another job. Consistent kindness, professionalism, and great service usually make me more money from people who see me working hard and not becoming a dick because some guy stiffed me. It doesn't matter in the long run, I work in an industry where money is never guaranteed and if I have a problem with that I chose the wrong path

But as it stands right now... I make $1000 plus a week working 3 days... I made a damn good choice
