Only if you take the de facto DC parts into account. Remove the parts that are part of the DC metro area and Virginia is a red state again.

The USA coasts should become autonomous countries. California (with less autismal borders with Oregon/Nevada/Arizona and maybe incorporating baja California, baja California Sur and Sonora) could be an autonomous state. New York+Connecticut+New Jersey+Vermont+New Hampshire could be another autonomous state (Maine goes to Canadia). Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Mississipi, Alabama, Florida could join Chihuahua, Coahuila de Zaragoza, Nuevo Leòn and Tamaulipas to create Best Mexico. About the remaining states, they may as well be neutered by annexation to Canadia or maybe they could be balkanized to hell and back

They have a choice between Cascadia, or California and from what I have seen. Cali may get too wrapped up in city politics and forget about the rural areas but Cascadia is outright contemptuous of anywhere that isn't Portland or Seattle. At least they can get some friends in the relatively healthy conservative population in the cities/south because contrary to what Sup Forums says most of the state isn't Berkeley. Also they would probably be their own state within Cali so they could decide to do whatever they want with their guns SanFran be damned. But it is their choice.

We're pretty purple even without occupied Northern Virginia. The difference is that a lot of our Democrats are a lot more conservative (Jim Webb types are very common) so they have more cross party appeal. Also if the Commonwealth Republican Party nominates somebody too crazy for an election Republicans and Conservative Independents will actually vote for the Libertarians instead of just threatening it. They garnered 10% of the vote in the last gubernatorial election.
