Hipster bullshit or great collection of films?
Hipster bullshit or great collection of films?
mixture of both
Both
poorfags will call criterion hipster
I guess whoever runs Criterion is a massive hipster but the movies are good.
Both, but mostly good.
>No Metropolis
>No Godfather
>Not one film featuring Brando
But Armagdeddon is on the list. It's a fucked up list to say the least. Mostly hipster bullshit.
babby's first kino
>Not one film featuring Brando
They have On the Waterfront.
how dare you
more like The Contrarian Collection.
>>No Metropolis
>>No Godfather
Both of those films already have perfectly fine Blu-ray releases. The Criterion Collection isn't a list of great movies. It's about giving great movies quality home video releases. The Godfather movies will always get released on whatever format comes out. Breathless and the Apu trilogy need Criterion.
I looked through the whole list a few weeks ago and don't recall seeing it. Maybe I missed it.
I didn't know that, but that still doesn't explain a mainstream hit movie like Armageddon being on the list
too many american movies in their catalogue.
>that still doesn't explain a mainstream hit movie like Armageddon being on the list
Yeah, that's the black sheep of the collection. A lot of times they do more popular movies so they can afford to release lesser known films that won't sell as well.
just "bullshit", not even hipster
great collection of films = japanese post war
hipster bullshit = everything else
Cringe
>browses blacked.com daily
who browsers blackeddotcom daily?
i only search for blacked on /emp/ every 4-5 days cus that's how often new scenes are released.
(next one is tomorrow btw ;^))
Watch city lights and modern times right now. Eraserhead was wierd but definitely worth watching as well.
Dr. Strangelove had a perfectly fine blu-ray release, too. Literally no good reason for them to release it again other than $$$.
Needs more indie kino like Two Lane Blacktop and less black and white German depression porn.
Great collection of hipster bullshit films.
I like having complete feature rich releases of films I hold dear, sometimes Criterion fills this, sometimes not, I don't understand the newfound memehate.
I like the non pretentious shit in the collection like Dazed and Confused or Godzilla or The Blob. I just want good releases of films I like that won't get them elsewhere.
>criterion
>chaplin
>kino
>keaton
i think we all know which is superior here
gotta subsidize the releases that don't sell well.
THE CRITERION LETTERBOXD PLEB CULT IS HIPSTER BULLSHIT
MOST OF THEIR MOVIES ARE TRYHARD
THEY DO GOOD RESTORATIONS SOMETIMES
THE BEST IS WHEN THEY RELEASED PROPER BAYKINO AND THE POSER GODARD TRUFFAUT HIPSTERS FLIPPED THEIR SHIT
Haven't they released some Lena Dumham movies?
>It's a not getting the point of Criterion at all post
Is don't give a shit either way. They put out a Zatoichi box set, so they're all right in my book.
Plus they have 50% off sales fairly often.
Enlighten us. What's the point of Criterion?
see:
I just saw Bottle Rocket
It was horribly plain but the story was genuine and now I want a Spanish QT
the collection/list of mvoies is actually great
going out of your way to buy them is a bit silly considering their price
In its essence it's hipster bullshit but that doesn't mean that the movies they release aren't great.
>hipster bullshit
there are lots of non-hipster movies in the Criterion collection
Bottle Rocket is my favorite Anderson movie, one of my favorites of all time too. Pretty sure I read that Bill Hader loves it too
