After Game of Thrones, HBO should do a Dune series

I read Dune, the first installment of the Dune Saga, last summer, and it reminded me of a Game of Thrones set in the future. It's a truly fantastic read, filled with drama, action, and an unpredictable, exciting, linear plot. I'd imagine D.B. Weiss and David Benioff could do the story more justice than David Lynch or the sci-fi channel were able to do, especially with a fat budget from HBO.

Yes HBO should.

But first watch the Dune and Children of Dune mini series. I prefer it to the Lynch movie

No, they should stop making genreshit and start making TV kino again.

Michael Bay should make Dune, and I'm not even kidding.

No way. He would incorporate as many upskirt shots as he could during the most dramatic parts.

Anyone have that Transformers webm where the camera man is literally zooming up the girl's upper thighs and ass during a conversation?

Weiss and Benihoff are horrible writers. You're a retard if you think they are good.

They should get D&D to write it as well desu.

i need this

...

the whole shield thing never made much sense to me

i get that he just wanted a sword based world but i didnt buy it, or that lets spend squillions to invade a world or the freman being badasses I get that they would be hard but poorly equipped and have less formal fighting training

Explain yourself OP.

Shit writers

im a redditor, what of it?

You should stop.

...

Fuck, give Lynch another go. He's the second best choice. Just a pilot 90 minutes. I fucking bet he'd smoke it.

Just like Rowling has "Magic, I ain't gotta explain shit", Herbert has Spice.

>D&D

>helming anything ever again

Actually, it could work, since the whole saga is more or less complete so D&D can't fuck up the last few seasons with their shitty ideas and writing.

You're damn right they should do a Dune series. It's an easy sell, too-- market it as Game of Thrones in space. It has a lot of the same themes that made Game of Thrones popular, and it was also one of the inspirations for Star Wars. The action and exotic worlds and tech of a Star Wars movie with the backstabbing royal houses of GOT is an easy sell.

They should also make a new Dune video game. What are the Command and Conquer guys up to after Grey Goo?

Boil the shit out of GoT, I mean literally, until you have four houses, that includes the Emperor, with the spacer guild as the ultimate arbitor, and you're getting somewhere close. The themes are not the same, though. Dune is a wacky spiritual story masked in Shakespearian chess moves. It's not the same thing. But sell the bitch however you want.

>The action and exotic worlds and tech of a Star Wars movie with the backstabbing royal houses of GOT is an easy sell.

>houses

Dune only speaks of Atreides, Harkonnen (dead at end of first book) and Corrino. None of the other houses are ever mentioned.

>Harkonnen (dead at end of first book)
In name only :)

He's a vane cunt admired only by hipster cinemaphiles. He's just Tarkovsky all over again - he totally ruined Stanislaw Lem's seminal novel Solaris and turned it into a painfully pretentious garbage.

Ugliest CGI ever

You either didn't read Dune or hardly remember it. The topics you've mentioned are somewhat tackled only in the first book, all that came after all about the impact of drugs, predetermination, and pseudo-philosophical masturbation.

The spice has nothing to do with shield technology or why the Fremen are such good fighters. In the books you can't use personal shields on Arrakis because the vibrations call worms. Hand-to-hand fighting dominates on other planets because if you shoot a laser at a shield, it doesn't just bounce off, it causes a huge explosion.

I'd rather that Dune never be remade. It has too much going on to ever be accurately translated into a movie or tv show

Ya. So let him try it again. You calling me a hipster cinemaphile? Fuck dude, don't be that guy.

>it reminded me of a Game of Thrones
That's because Ned is a less intelligent clone of Leto and GRRM is a scifi writer who read Herbert like everyone else.

>HBO should do a Dune series
No, it would be even worse than the two previous attempts.

I hate you.

FUCK NO

I don't want to see Frank Herbert's work ruined by the same retards who made Game of Plebs. Holy shit the Bene Gessiarat would become a female power fantasy and they would contrive some way to make Paul black I'm sure
If you want Dune read the books

You're an idiot brah. The entirety of Frank Herbert's series is about the royal family and the political maneuvering they do to ensure the survival of the human race. All of Leto's "pseudo-philosophical masturbation" is literally in-universe propaganda

hehe I'm getting a laff

>D.B. Weiss and David Benioff could do the story more justice

HAHAHAHAHAAH

6/10 bait, a little too obvious but still effective.

Politics is only one of the main themes of Dune, you're forgetting religion and drugs as well as a ton of smaller themes

In essence there is a lot more to Dune than GoT and I feel like a TV show focusing only on the political parts would miss the big picture.

In a show they would have plenty of time to explore the other themes, more than a movie would at least. A TV show Sly's also be able to explore the whole series rather than just cramming the first book into a movie or stretching it into a trilogy and never making it to the rest of the series.

It's too much story for anything but half a dozen novels. It's rambling, wacky trippy fucking story.

I agree that they would have plenty of time to explore those themes, I'm just worried that they won't explore them.

I could see them, hot off the success of GoT, just focusing on the political aspect as a way to keep that same audience.

I would love an adaptation, but only as long as it is faithful. I don't want Dune casualized for the plebs. There's a reason Star Wars is more popular and that's because it is a way dumbed down and casualized version. I don't want that for Dune.

you know what they should actually do? a live action adaptation of bakemonogatari or zaregoto

There's no way you can take a shameless fanservice animoo and do it in live action without tons of complaints about 3DPD from the original audience. Must of the actresses would probably be ex porn stars, too.

they can cut that shit out, the studio made up most of it

The fremen were good fighters because tey were accustomed to hardship and also they fought and hunted their whole life.

Dune was mostly about how a good life makes people weak while hardship makes them strong ,the first book was on about that everytime the fremen came up.

>stoically
Are you autistic?

This guy has actually read the book

I have a feeling that they're going to be appealing for a hell of a lot wider audience after GOT.

They're doing wheel of time, retards

Asimov's Foundation series is superior to dune, they should make that instead.
