nu metal
because i'm mainly into electronic music and nu metal is influenced by it
Doom. I like the groove based bass heavy riffs and it seems like there's more effort put into writing good songs than playing as fast as possible. There also seems to be more of a variation between a lot of bands (I know shitloads of them are cheesy black sabbath clones). Theres everything from heavy ass cowboy shit (wo fat, the sword) to evil coven shit (electric wizard, windhand) to psychadelic mindfuckery (elder, fuzz) and classic 70s jams (witchcraft, uncle acid) and desert car pilots (truckfighters). A lot of good doom albums totally shift gears a few times throughout, you never really know where the sound is gonna go. Good examples are nucleus by witchcraft and dead roots stirring by elder. I also really like black metal and drone, but more so when its fucking miserable winter.
please expand your horizons
Doom/Sludge
i listen to like 60 genres of music or something, a lot of them are electronic yes but cmon, my horizons are well expanded
Drone, my man. I like how it can just like take you away for a while with what is essentially, yknow, a drone.
Post-metal and sludge primarily
Black metal and old school death metal cause I'm not a fucking faggot hipster.
Thrash cause that's the one spics always gravitate towards. I got big into prog metal for a bit. Less Dream Theater and more Cynic though.
Sludge and Nu-Metal
here's a strawpoll
strawpoll.me
Whatever the fuck pic related is.
It sounds gruesome, chaotic and unsettling. I love everything about it.
OSDM. NU-MALES WILL DISAGREE
the fact that nu metal has more than 0 votes lets you know you have some serious fucking plebs in your thread OP
2nd wave Black Metal
I also posted in /meal/ so they're probably memeing it up there
you guys are both equally correct
THIS
Drone metal. It's just so suffocating, heavy, and atmospheric
Cavernous death metal
Doom, black, slam.
Weebgrind
>not a faggot hipster
>black metal
I like em both
100% agree with this post
Did not expect for black metal to take the top spot..
Black, best vibes and Deathspell Omega nuff said
Op why no grindcore option on the strawpoll
grindcore is derivative of thrash, also I forgot grindcorem alt metalm industrial, and others existed
It was only ever going to be black metal
This
I was honestly expecting thrash to take top
I think Black, Thrash, and Death Metals are the most respectable genres
but there's a ton of trash Death out these days (see >buttdeath) and I just see more discussion about Black than Thrash
czech out muh bois from az, Ceremented, for some murky cavernous meal
ewew
it's because /moo/ is full of hipster nu-male p4k /Fantano sheeps that just love bm bc of how pretentious the genre can be. corny shit senpai.
Already got both their demos senpai
I never really got into black metal beyond behemoth and little bit of bathory. Beyond that though I can agree with you on death and thrash.
Neat shit. Can't wait for a full length. I saw them for the first time opening for Archgoat. Rad shit.
Yeah that's fair, but the /nbbmn/ dorks are more what I'm thinking of and from what I've seen I don't think they're "hipster nu-male p4k /Fantano sheeps" but I could be wrong
I got into BM from Crust so I don't really know much about the community surrounding it
I like Black Metal, Brutal Death Metal and Industrial Metal.
I like a lot of other metal subgenres but those are my favorite.
>/nbbmn/
Those threads are full of legit cats. But outside of /meal/ and /nbbmn/, BM fans are massive P4K/Fantano shitters
symphonic
Whatever the fuck Boris makes
why when nu metal is already the best subgenre
Black, but mostly atmoshit and dsbm.
I find it really cathartic, and a good way to work out my negative emotions. Feel free to call me a fag, but I just can't get enough of a good atmosphere created by an album.
Schammasch, Gratzug, Austere and Ellende are some of my favorites.
Have you listened to the other subgenres of metal?
yes, probably all of them even the niche ones like goregrind and funeral doom, why you ask?
Cool, just curious. I know a lot of people who are really into nu metal are fairly ignorant to the rest of the genre, but if you've sampled it all and found something you love, more power to you.
This, Doom is GOAT (and Death Doom is the ultimate Doom), and black metal and drone metal are still top-tier.
Also, Stoner.
Death Doom
Melodeath

Power metal, especially the American kind.
whatever genre this is

Black metal, because it's extremely varied and has lots of history to it. There's plenty of traditional acts and experimental acts, even today.
I like /nbbmn/ when it's not political shit (and not even legit shit like "wow, it sucks that traditional swedish cultural is being subverted by the government", just fucking memes). /DSG/ is the best gen tho, when it's made at least.
Agreed
Opinions on Spaceslug?
Stoner/doom metal
It's super heavy and the riffs are some of the best that can't be found in most other subgenres. Also because I'm a lazy fuck and that kind of sound makes me go deeper into my laziness in ecstasy.
>over 18
>listening to metal
Technical death metal (and/or progressive DM, experimental DM, avant-garde DM - stuff along those lines.)
I like the complexity/intricacy of it. I could go on but that's what it boils down to in the end. I like death metal more as a base than the final product; most standard DM is boring to me. Spice it up with some technicality and I'm more intrigued.
Death
Brutal Death
Slam Death
On the flip side, I think Grindcore may be viewed in the same way. the ability to focus raw brutality like 30 times into one album is severely under rated. I think being so explosive in short bursts is much harder because you don't really have an opportunity to develop anything.
So this post is telling me that if I have to get into any subgenre of metal, it'd be doom?
Black metal. It's direct, raw, savage, yet quite beautiful in doing so. It's bursting with emotion and this album displays everything I love about it.
Boris isn't exclusively metal, they experiment with various genres and are quite good at it.
Thrash. It is aggressive, concise and straight forward.
Good thrash anyway.
Somewhat contradictory to what I just said, I kind of like prog metal aswell.
I've always been a blackie. Funnily enough I really listened to a lot of surf rock before getting into black metal.
Is there some good list of albums or guide to getting into metal? I love electric wizard, boris, and jesu but a lot of the 80s stuff sounds too corny for me.
black metal. it has some of the most versatility and room for creativity (inb4) purists
also it's angry and extreme which is what i look for in metal
atmospheric sludge metal
drone doom metal
progressive death metal
experimental black metal
Watch it user
Metalcore? Is it metal, or is it hardcore? Or is it the best of both? Vocals are what got me into it, started with Cancer Bats, which is more hardcore than metal I'd say but they definitely have a lot of Black Sabbath in them. I adopted The Architects into my library and while the lyrics registered as corny the overall delivery was really powerful. Really I think more than anything since metalcore is a catchall it presents itself as more versatile than either metal or hardcore (especially the latter) while they're already more versatile than most other genres as a product of their relatively niche placement in the spectrum of music. On top of it the bands are energetic, the crowds are usually amped, the music is loud and I have a good time.
Thrash Metal. It's the first one I got into and I've since expanded into a lot of other stuff, not just metal, but I always come back to
Heavy metal
Prog metal
I like wank
>hates cheesy 80s stuff
>loves cheesy as fuck stoner doom
i dun get it
Stoner metal
I'm a chill guy

panterrrrrrrra
Mung Metal
I like the smell it creates
Doom
I'm not a metal fan and I prefer the slower droning and Blues based riffs.
Disappointed this isn't a real thing.
Diamond metal. Because it's hardest metal known to human kind \m/
Melodic black metal
OSDM and thrash
