If you ever go around visiting Amsterdam, definitely look for bar "Gollem" which there is now probably 4 or 5, but one in Raamsteeg is the best one imo. Look for also a shop called Bierköning if I remember the name right, it has a great selection of beers. I got all those from Estonia, since [spoiler]I'm a filthy Finnfag who goes there occasionally for the alcohol.[/spoiler]
I haven't ever been in Belgium aside from a few short trips to Antwerpen and one small city I can't remember the name of.
I hope that you'll get there with your dad, I share my passion with mine and we like to call it a pilgrimage when we go to Gollem I mentioned.

You can't compare German and Belgian beers though, since they're completely different.
I for one have been swept by Italian brewery called Birrificio Del Ducato and love their products, but definitely wouldn't compare them to German or Belgian beers.
