Seconding the recommendations of Cornelius and Flipper's Guitar.
Fantasma, Doctor Head's World Tower and Point are all awesome albums
If you want more adventurous stuff, try Mariah/Yasuaki Shimizu, Boredoms and Ryoji Ikeda.
Maki Asakawa is also a good jazz singer if you are into this.
...
Sup Forums is lot more nicer than I thought. Thanks for all the recs

Oh I forgot her. Fun 9 and Cloudy Cloud Calculator are very nice cutesy albums.
I should check out her new collab with Dustin Wong. He is not really Japanese even though he grew up there, but if you can see him live, you should, his act is pretty impressive and he is a sweet guy.
Don't listen to fucking weeb advice when it comes to Japan

anyone into jap rap? i'm trying to get into it but got no clue where to start lol
I don't know much myself but i'd say anything Shing02 has done with Uyama Hiroto or Nujabes would be a good place to start.
In a similar vein, Midicronica are also a very fun rap group.
