Can we talk about this guy for a second? Okay, he's probably hitting the bottle and the pipe a little bit too much. Okay, he's borderline incoherent in interviews.
But god damn can he play the shit out of a guitar. New album, meh overall, but the moments when he's on are incendiary. He's got such a distinct style, sloppy as hell but that's part of the charm. His melodies always take unexpected twists, his modulations are on point, his tempo changes are like a bungee jump. Unlike other dime-a-dozen prog metal guitarists playing perfectly on the beat he sounds like he's just having a blast on the guitar.
Not really a Mastodon fan in general, sounds like Coheed & Cambria trying to play "Master of Puppets".

I can see where you're coming from though I disagree. I'd say some of the stuff they've come up with could not have been written by either one of those groups (thinking mostly Blood Mountain era). Never been much of a C&C fan for what it's worth.
