It's really dull, and moves incredibly slowly. The first 40 minutes of the film is set up for trapping a ghost, and then they never do it again.
40 minutes later the big final battle starts and nothing interesting has really happened by then.
It basically ends with them officially becoming the ghostbusters.

Juxtaposing Superman with Jesus imagery is a way to wind the symbolism naturally into the film and avoid beating the viewer over the head with it. It also allows the viewer to make their own assumptions and create their own thoughts about the subject.
