There's a difference between listening to music and playing/making it.

who is this smugger sperm-chugger

Yeah, one is something literally everyone does and doesn't make you special while the other one is a hobby that takes practice and skill.

>I interpret every statement as a brag

>Stop saying you like music!
>You don't like music unless you (insert unnecessary music practice here)!

(You)

You like music? Then name every song!

>Yeah, one is something literally everyone does and doesn't make you special
no one said otherwise

and playing music doesn't make you special, either

Learning to master an instrument is hard for most people

Contrary/ There's good musicians that are bad technically and have a poor voice but still make "good music"

some bitch that's in a bunch of BLACKED scenes.

(You)

Your shitty MIDI orchestral composition, isn't good, OP.

It's all he has, leave him alone.

Lurk on Sup Forums and you'll see all her scenes

imagine getting mad at some offhand comment someone wrote on social media about enjoying music

imagine fuming to strangers on the internet looking to validate your anger

imagine being op

(You)

I always wonder how those teeny pornstars must feel when their old and look back, must be utterly depressing

anger is like a parking pass. if you don't validate it you get stuck in the building

i mean technically you're right, but its like saying you love food while being nothing but an obese retard who cant make music or play and instrument

>look at me I'm better than everyone else because of my hobbies

Why would anyone study musical theory?

The only legitimate reason would be a diagnosis of autism.

WHO IS SHE

WHO THIS BITCH

ANSWER FAGGOTS

To write better music. And because it's pretty interesting

>tfw too autistic for hyperbole

>better music
Which is a completely subjective term.
>interesting
A meaningless word in the context of music.

for autism it is

Can we at least agree that the defining boundary between people that like music vs actually are interested in music is whether or not they learn an instrument?

>Can we at least agree on this arbitrary distinction that I need you guys to affirm so I feel special?
Nah

Interesting in the sense that anything is interesting. Just like how it's interesting to learn about astronomy or history.

And how about more complex to quell your pedantry

>complex
Also a meaningless word in the context of music.

How is it meaningless?

>gatekeeping literally all music
Now, this is quality autism.

Talk Talk's music is complex, Joy Division's music is simple. Do you understand the difference?

Explain

Talk Talk: layered instrumentation, slow burning melodies, thematically unconventional

Joy Division: straightforward riffs executed effectively

dude complexity lmao

youtube.com/watch?v=5ixRWvrkUHo

I'd say this is pretty simple. Not all their stuff is complex but even the melodies on this were pretty new for the time

>Music is my life!
do people on here really say this? surely it's just a hobby for you guys?

No, I'd probably kill myself if I went deaf

books are nice

Usually these this type of posts seem like smug self righteousness, but when you think about it, it is a valid thought. People who listen to many whole discographies and analyze music throughout their life, yet they aren't commited enough to play any of that music? They never wanted to get closer to the music, or go more in depth musically by picking up at least one instrument? I don't think people understand that once you understand music, the music becomes better (unless you like really shitty music). You notice things you'd never notice before, and it gives you even more to analyze and obsess over. I think folks don't think they have the mental capacity to learn, which is untrue.

(((Listening to))) "Music is my life!"

You just showed how little you know about the subject.

Are you so musically challenged that "layered instrumentation" is a rare or unique form of music to you?

"Slow burning melodies"? That's something you'll never hear in an actual conversation about melody.

Being unconventional doesn't mean your music is complex. I bet Mozart wrote some of his best work with moronic topics in mind.

I get what you're saying. it just strikes me as odd when someone says they never played an instrument.

this

I don't really wanna argue with you

You can have the same interest in music without wanting to play the instrument.

I know some basic theory, I wanted to play bass a while back, and simply decided the actual playing wasn't something that I wanted to do, it was more of a chore.

Some of my musician friends don't know theory and aren't as interested as me in music, at least that's how I see it. I have one friend who is an excellent classically trained pianist and I can have thoughtful discussions with him even if we don't like the same things.

Me neither, I don't like hearing reddit-tier opinions that much.

Elsa Jean

Now THAT'S deep.

Hey I found a word for you

Preterm? Are you suggesting I'm pregnant?

I would study music theory but it's really boring.

THANKS

So you have the definition there and still used it incorrectly?

elsa jean

>You know, I've never really liked music all that much

>claims that he loves music
>hasn't even released a critically acclaimed album that sold millions of copies
Get the fuck out of my face

I like to let you be the judge. I left the page there for you. :)
? The gentleman above described a word that wasn't on my mind.

Oh, happy day! One on the opposite page!

How does being obese have to do with musicmanship or compositional talent? Bach was fat.

>? The gentleman above described a word that wasn't on my mind.
What kind of a fag says something like this?

let casuals be casuals. just cause you think you're really into something doesn't mean everyone else has to be. who gives a shit?

and makes you special?

having a broader understanding of music theory is helpful in writing in the same way that having a wider variation of colors of paint can be helpful in painting. you can go monochrome if you want, and there's good stuff that is, but sometimes it's fun to add other stuff.

fuck this is that trip who always used to have massive austistic freak outs, isn't it

>hurr durr i'm content with my own ignorance so everyone who isn't is retarded

lmao fuck off already

What kind of fag unironically browses Sup Forums? Kek

It's only natural for a music fan to want to learn at least a bit about music and how it works

Has anyone read this? This guy does a pretty good job at explaining the difference between musicality and musicianship.

I've recently joined tinder and this kind of thing pops up constantly

"I love live music, whiskey, travel, boats, all the food, and netflix"

so what you're saying is that you want someone to take you places and feed you while you get drunk and passively consume media. awesome, let me immediately fund your boring life.

also kinda funny when girls put bibliophile or cinephile in their description then they like oscar wilde, chomsky, and godard.

or when they insinuate how intellectual they are and make common homophonic errors in spelling. or when they say how funny they are but don't make any jokes.

i just expected words to mean what they mean and people to have interests outside of rotting like an apple on the beach.

...

>people to have interests outside of rotting like an apple on the beach
I guess there's still time to go gay user

He's not entirely wrong

or when girls identify as sapiosexual and then follow it with the most mundane list of self descriptors that basically any breathing mammal does everyday to live.

the guys are somehow worse. they're just as shitty but they don't try to hide it behind nebulous aspirations or airy notions of self betterment. it's just a pic of them drinking with friends and a tagline that echoes something vaguely mysterious they read on tumbler.

"Movies are my life!"

>never studies film theory
>never operated a camer
>never composed a scene

This thread seems good enough, what is the best pair of headphones I can get for $60?

Grado sr60

I would love to learn to play an instrument or learn turntables/other stuff like that but I don't have the time, space or money for it, so I don't.

This is underappreciated.

People have layers, there are extremely common and generic people who are contempt with the most boring and insignificant life.

Then, you have these ones, who think they are so above and beyond but their personality is just an embodiment of their hobbies and what someone told them they should be interested in.

Finally, you have people who are actually interesting and not completely autistic or dumb as shit; in fact, I've met autistic people who are pretty ok, so let's not include that term. These are the people that make you grow, you can learn from them, interact accordingly and expand your mind essentially. If you surround yourself with great minds, you're bound to be great. It's not easy to find people like this, sadly.

I was looking for one that wouldn't leak so much, is that not possible with this price?

I've heard nice things about the Monoprice ones. I couldn't tell you much cause the only good sub-$100 headphones I've heard were PortaPro's and they leak a bit.

This was directed towards you, Sup Forums fucked up

It's a pity that some of the most fun instruments are pretty expensive

>she gets most of her music from youtube nation channels

Okay what about $100+ if I have to look that high I will. I want to get quality headphones that I can get good sound from, as well as not leak.

>gives a fuck about self-proclaiming rando

just get senn 280 for about 100.

they are flattering while being fairly flat, relatively inexpensive for the quality, and comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

and they don't look weird or expensive so you can wear them in public and not worry about drawing attention to yourself.

You know what, I think I finally get what OP meant. I'm much more competent as a filmmaker than a musician. I used to play bass and drums for fun, even started producing electronic/hip hop music just for fun; I didn't follow it through because I didn't want it to be my life, I'm ok with just having fun.

Cinema is different for me, I really love doing and watching it. I've had a few opportunities to practice cinematography and editing correctly, and I think I'm pretty good at it. I'm working as a designer now because I was given the opportunity before graduating high school so I've kept it, and I like it, too. It's not the same as film. When I frame a shot or an entire scene, I think about the same styling details as graphic design, but I also have movement, and environmental interaction with either the actors or the location. It's a fuller experience. I even have typography which is something I love.

My heart wants to pursue filmmaking, at the moment it's complicated because the career is not as concrete or open and it's non-existant where I live. Ecuador has a terrible film culture.

Anyways, sorry for the ranting user, just couldn't stop.

kek

I'd also recommend Monoprice cans then, or some low priced Sennheiser's are never a bad call

rant on! you have passion it shows

I jumped straight into the HD 25, but Sennheiser does good stuff. I think anything made by a serious company in that price tier will be decent.

Maybe you're right user. Well, thanks for mocking the netflix culture and opening up my mind to something somewhat unrelated haha

Here lies user, he listened to Metal Machine Music once.

Sony, Philips, Audio Technica, Grado, Sennheiser and even Monoprice are all good bets. There's a style and price combo out there for everyone

>slow burning melodies

lmao a melody can be fast à la post-punk or slow à la post-rock. I can tell it's an apt metaphor because nobody gets it
