because their production was amazing and diverse and is still extremely influential in today's wave plus people always sleep on the south and think hip-hop is a battle between the east and west coasts when the south is the most diverse with the most impressive production techniques and their lyrics aren't bad. I'm from the south so i'm slightly biased but no one created an atmosphere like memphis/southern hip-hop

i also like alternative hip hop, experimental hip hop, conscious hip hop, cloud rap. i could go on.

probably cus all rap 'avent-teens' like now is heavily influenced by memphis rap, i'm 24 years old but i remember vividly when asap rocky first became popular online, spaceghostpurrp too, sometime around 2010-12. the down south influence then was clearly obvious (chopped and screwed vocals, repetitive chorus pattern, 808 drum sets) now fast forward a few years later, the rappers who are popular with young people (uglygod, lil uzi vert, smokepurrp) are following a DIRECT pattern of memphis rap tape production, its the 808 kicks... do research and it all comes back to memphis, 3 6 being the most popular culturally so obviously they're the MAIN group who are referenced and revered now... tommy wright the 3rd too

3 6 and tommy right are really the only notable ones of the genre
