I know this can be bypassed with a "You're a beginner, so it's okay" answer. But, ultimately, what is the view on mistakenly mixing casual grammar and vocab with formal? I sometimes do this accidentally, because the formal words roll of the tongue easier, and vice-versa. Hey guys, if you have a curiosity to study about Japan and Korea, this site is very interesting.
Yeah, I'd say that's a fair interpretation of what's going on. I think the easiest way to think of (verb stem)+物 is "something you (verb)". There are other instances of the same function by 物: 贈り物 - Something you give - Gift 乗り物 - Something you ride - Vehicle 飲み物 - Something you drink - Beverage
