Was anyone else surprised how negative the reaction towards this album was on here? Especially since Sup Forums usually really likes Phil's work. People were outright mocking him for his wife's death. I know expecting decency from this website is kind of ridiculous, but still, I felt some sense of disappointment towards Sup Forums

I've said it a thousand times. It's just shitposters who have never had someone truly close to them die. They are actually scared of it since they know it will happen sooner of later. Shitposting is a form of denial.

I didn't really enjoy it, and I haven't written a word about until now. I just find I can't relate to the lyrics at this point in time, given that it's the only thing going for it. Forest Fire is pretty good nonetheless.

Because this record is the most real thing out there. Nothing quite confronts the prospect of death like this record, so people are scared of it, and even mock it for that.

I find it hard to criticize it. First because of the circumstances, second because of the explanation he gives in the first song. Musically I find it lacking, but like he says himself, it's not meant to be entertaining or even music. I found it deeply moving, but I don't really want to listen to it again. It's like Schindler's List. Once is enough.

havent had the time to fully listen to it yet to be honest. i feel like listening to it while doing anything else but listening would be mean with such a personal record. the two tracks that i've heard were very quiet and focused on the singing and the lyrics. many people here are teenagers who either listen to music as background noise and this kind of music doesn't work for that situation. and a lot of people like me probably haven't come around actually giving this album a honest listen yet. others just want to meme. what do you expect, it's Sup Forums.

It feels like Phil didn't really know how to make a proper record about such a terrible thing for him, so he just put on it whatever he could put together. The result is obviously undercooked.

It feels like an exercise in grief release and Phil put it out because he knew that Mount Eerie fans would like it (and they seem to do for the most part).

It was actually liked by people interested in Mount Eerie and Phil's work, it was memed however by people who value memes over music discussion. Notice how there was barely any actual criticism of the content itself, rather the context of its release, because most shitposters hadn't actually listened to it to form valid criticism. It was too easy to meme.

When is he gonna release the REAL follow-up to Sauna? I can't except this shit album as being the album we were waiting for since Sauna dropped in 2015.
