damn

That's still a lot better than what Sup Forums thought it would be.

what was the budget?

What exactly did Sup Forums think it would be shitlord? tumblr and feminists in general are very numerous. Sup Forums already knew this.

$144M production budget. and about $150M for the marketing.

>4 days in and still at least another day away from the halfway point. Gross. Halfway net is a fucking LONG way off still.

Are you blind? Regardless, the production budget doesn't count marketing budget which is usually far more than your average production budget.

Remember, it needs 500 million to be considered successful.

You're naive if you think it will do anywhere near decent on its second week. Feminists were out in full force supporting this movie by buying multiple tickets to support it on its opening weekend.

Fucking patriarchy ruins everything.

300 and thell do another one. if it does at least that despite being shit on by everybody, theyll attempt a second movie and try to get it right. or right in their minds at least

>You're naive if you think it will do anywhere near decent on its second week
When the fuck did I say this?

Gotta spend money to make money. They'll take the hit, because in the long run a cinematic universe pays dividends.

I predicted $55 million opening weekend.

Misread your post. My bad.

Who cares, can we let this shitty cash grab die already?

Why isn't there at least a CamRip available somewhere?

The cash grab is dead. This is more of a smug eulogy.

Didn't come out in china

Because they didnt go see it either.

>Why isn't there at least a CamRip available somewhere?
Because nobody went to see the movie dumb dumb.

Holy shit.

$18million in the foreign market?

You're telling me that in Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands, COMBINED, it only made $18 million dollars?

also UK

imdb.com/title/tt1289401/releaseinfo

Oh shit, it's worse than I thought.

Box Office Mojo only listed Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands.

50 million is pretty good for a comedy these days.

F

Unlike this movie, Iron Man did wonders and actually had the ability to start the MCU. This movie is not doing that.

Sony doesn't have the money to gamble on a CU that isn't making money day one.

@72190995

>THE FOREIGN NUMBER WENT DOWN FROM THE WEEKEND

MY SIDES!!

foreign plebs did it!!

G

90% was made in the opening weekend. It's only going to get worse. The New York Times reviews will fail to convince anyone that they're sexist if they don't see it.

Too bad these chuckle fucks at sony spent $144 million fucking dollars on a snl comedy movie. Who the fuck greenlights a comedy film with anything past $50 million and honestly expects a return on investment

Rest in silverback heaven.

Even bombs make about twice the first weekend gross, granted thats still not near breaking even but no movie makes 90% its total in the first week

not much care for GB outside of america let alone a remake of it

JUSTIN' MAKES ME FEEL GOOD

And Singapore.

Hell. I boycotted it

A cinematic universe that nobody wants to see will have trouble doing that.

It's about exactly what I thought it would be.

I said lower than 50, higher than Spy.

Same with it's final gross. Like 150 mil more than Spy.

>300 and thell do another one.
No, 300 would be a small loss. Every film have a magic number that justify a sequel, but usually you don't hear about it. However in this case, Feig accidentally blurted out 500million in an interview. He wouldn't have said it if it wasn't true.

>You're telling me that in Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands, COMBINED, it only made $18 million dollars?
Worse, they are running out of English-speaking countries, and everyone knows that comedies suffer when translated into a foreign language.

and dont forget that it opened up the 11th in the UK and not the 15th like USA

the biggest market after china

Too bad it's not a low budget comedy. It's a summer Blockbuster that was advertised heavily, including during the nba finals

I thought it would at least recoup its production budget

This is a fucking disaster

Paul Feig himself said they needed to do 500 on the low end.

Sup Forums thought it would make 300 million, but by the looks if things it will barely break 200

I thought it was actually going to be a success based off of the name but then get blasted by critics. Turns out it was the exact opposite.

>Paul Feig himself said they needed to do 500 on the low end.
It is the number that the studio WANTS. This number is never disclosed normally. But since Feig is a retard, he told us the numbers even though Tom Rothman was asked the same question, but he kept quite like he was suppose to.

...

>I thought it was actually going to be a success based off of the name but then get blasted by critics. Turns out it was the exact opposite.
The media is trying their best to push the narrative that the film is a huge success. I have no idea why, it is almost like they are embrarassed in being partly responsible of the film's failure. Personally half the reason I don't want to watch the film came from the Studio insulting me, but the other half is the media insulting me too. So they share the blame.

What happens when they lose this much money?

Do they cut the pay to the actors?

As an Ausfag, I can tell you that I stuck my head in while on a date to watch Findng Dory (which was PACKED), and there was literally like 15 people in a 300 seat cinema here.

Literally all warning hair/50's glasses plus their beardy/glasses boyfriends lmao.

>What happens when they lose this much money?
>Do they cut the pay to the actors?
The money is already spent. Basically, the investors who paid for the film would get less money back than they originally paid for it. The studio itself doesn't lose money because everyone is already paid for their time. However, the rich bankers who invested in this film would get mad and be harder to be convinced of giving Sony money next time.

the jewish machine grinds to a halt

no it doesnt no matter what feig says. 300m and it will get a sequel or at least the other ghostbusters movie will come through.

Just from rudimentary maths you can see that

>Production budget = $144m
>Advertising = ~$100m (though it's probably way more)
>Total: $244m
>Cinemas taking their cut of the sales = needs to get double the amount (244x2)
>$488m

Also remember that this is Sony "in panicmode" Pictures. They can't just break even, they were banking on some serious returns on this.

To be fair Mad Max didn't open in China and did great numbers, though it also had very positive word of mouth.

I feel GB16 is going drop off.

Star Trek, Cuckicide Squad, and Jason Bourne will rape this FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

They'll still do another one, all they have to say is that men were oppressing them.

>Brexit odds were 5-1
>now look what happened

why are you people so easy to btfo

2016 the year global socialism died

This.

Please vote Trump, tell everyone you know to vote for Trump.
The assholes are scared now that Trump might get elected after what with Brexit and will go out in full force.

We need to as well.

>They'll still do another one, all they have to say is that men were oppressing them.
You need money. MONEY. Money that Sony get from investors. And investors get annoyed when they lose money and you tell them you want a sequel.

>Star Trek

I forgot this was a thing lol.

But yeah Bourne should do well, still on the fence about Soo-sy Skwa

Not to mention, open up Sony to the good old "lost potential revenue" lawsuit. If this movie ends up damaging the brand, you can be damn sure someone's going to sue someone for lost revenue, specially if the contracts for Ramis specified a cut on money made from the brand, and the Ramis estate feels greedy. Aykroyd will play along for now, but expect the same shit whenever he kicks it

Isn't showing your film in China a no-brainer?

>number 2 in it's opening week, will only perform worse from here on out
>only competition was Secret Life of Pets in its second week
>star trek and ice age coming out this week
>bourne next week

Will it even make up it's production budget?

with 488 they make ok'ish money from the thing.

paul fieg movies usually do 250 give or take
and around 300 is what they need to break even

Mad Max was too violent/sexual and it wasn't allowed in China, but I think it did get an eventual release.

GB2016 is unironically banned ("denied release") because of occult themes, so it's definitely not getting played there.

Check your privilege and fuck off.
Stop oppressing women.

Studios get 70-75 percent of domestic the first week. It goes down after as an incentive to theaters to keep a film instead of dumping it for a new one.

There is also backend deals to remember that comes off the studios end. Usually those only kick in if it hits XX number, though, but just as often the producer/actor/director is smart enough to take a percentage.

What exactly is Trump going to do besides whine like a bitch when he wants something and Congress tells him to go fuck himself?

He'll be another Obama except he can't use the 'it's cause I'm black' excuse.

make it 350-375+ and it's closer to reality, so yeah it might not break even

I really doubt it
I want sony pictures to die

It's only out in Australia and Britain so far, it will get more money when it opens everywhere else. Plus it will get a bump domestically from all the media attention about the harassment Leslie Jones has been receiving just because she's a black woman in a movie. It's going to make enough money to at least break even and get a sequel that could improve upon the first movie

Not that I'm defending the movie, but it is a Monday user. That drop was going to be hard no matter what.

The real fun begins next weekend.

Who wants to place bets?

65% drop

>mainstream blockbuster
>ever making more money in the second week than the first
Name a single fucking movie that's done that in recent history

>Plus it will get a bump domestically from all the media attention about the harassment Leslie Jones has been receiving just because she's a black woman in a movie.

I highly doubt it

They couldn't guilt people into seeing it on opening weekend, they won't be able to do it now

Also dunno about kids of today but back in early-mid 90s when I was a kid the reruns of the cartoon + toys were still very popular and they were awesome nice quality toys really.

But Ghostbusters was an established brand that was regulary marketed and sold + If kids and people still care they can make a ton of money from those don't just see the thing as a ticket sales etc..

How recent are we talking about?

I'm technically cheating here

Which just shows how impossible it would be for GB to ever beat it's opening gross on the second week at the end of July

>implying anyone cares about Jones drama

Even SJW only care enough to reblog and tag it with how offended they are.

Getting real fuckin sick of seeing people post grosses without posting the goddamn budget

Nigga you retarded
It opened in second place to a movie thats already been out a week
Its going up against Trek which is going to make a killing due to its own tragedy AND Ice Age (kid money)
Bourne the following week
This franchise is dead

I worded that poorly. I meant a bump in what it would otherwise make, not a bump over the first week. It will drop in the second week but not by much

If you morons couldn't get Bernie to be your nominee with your twitter campaigns, what makes you think it'll help Ghostbusters?

Social media is an awful way to base anything. Nobody actually fucking cares about the drama. They just chime in because the tools exist for them to voice their stupid opinion. Those people aren't going to do anything to actually help in any significant way.

Yeah, if only there was some section in the box office mojo page that listed the production budget of a film.

Gosh darn it.

You haven't been paying attention to the toys sales have you?

>It will drop in the second week but not by much

No, it will drop by much. Star Trek and Ice Age is next week.

This movie is done.

>Social media is an awful way to base anything
Fuck, remember Snakes on a Plane? It's been 10 years since, and they keep repeating their mistakes regarding internet hype and real world results

>They'll still do another one
Just like they said they'd make an all male Ghostbusters film too?

good thing this isn't a comedy.

Just because its not funny doesn't mean its not a comedy

It's pretty crazy.

I thought Cuntbusters was guaranteed a #1 spot this week. It had literally zero competition. There was a Woody Allen film that had a limited release and that was about it.

It can't even win by default.

It's finally over.

>I thought Cuntbusters was guaranteed a #1 spot this week. It had literally zero competition. There was a Woody Allen film that had a limited release and that was about it.

Ghostbusters was beaten by pic related

I get the feeling ALL that was foreplay.

They probably don't care, it's all about trolling Trump haters to them.

it's also about disliking hillary and her pandering to identity politiking pseudointellectual faggots everyone hates
