Hey, OP from yesterday here. Took me all day but I've finally gotten around to continuing the Merzbox. I'm currently listening to disc 3, Remblandt Assemblage. So far it's pretty good, but I really just started. Still, better than disc 2. So far, my official rankings are as follows: >01: 7/10, Rec >02: 5/10, Don't Rec
I'll keep sharing my thoughts throughout disc 3 and hopefully 4 tonight, and I welcome yours. Share your favorite noise/Merzbow.
So far, Akita's serving up some quality loops over some fidgety background noise. If this keeps up, I'm feeling another strong 7/10.
Carter Wood
I forget, how much albums are in the Merzbox? 80 or something?
Nolan Fisher
Also posting the endurance chart for anyone who's interested in that sort of thing.
50, my guy Have you listened to any?
Jonathan Jones
Second track starts weird as fuck, sounds like Masami yawning or some shit
Christian Myers
Bits and pieces, never much sustained listening. Might do sometime though. You're enjoying it so far it seems. What's your listening setup if I may ask?
Brayden Adams
Just my laptop and some beats pro I got as a gift like four years ago (pre-Sup Forums), nothing at all fancy
Jacob Thompson
03 is probably the best so far, he's mixing in a lot of traditional instrumentation (for him) and it's paying off
Owen Walker
I've taken the roll on that chart and am now listening to John Duncan - Blind Date. Interesting theme but so far musically underwhelming.
Adam Lopez
Huh, lemme know how it is
Jacob Cruz
Fifth track starts with fucking toilet sounds
It's actually good though
Luke Ramirez
Well, it's about a guy becoming obsessed with being unlovable or something, so he decides to have a vasectomy but first spill his last seed in a dead person, so he hooks up with a mortician and fucks a dead broad and records it. This is apparently a live performance of that recording. Probably fake, not very interesting. Avoid the album but check out the comments here and there.
Brody Hughes
Alright, finished disc 3. Really liked it. Less droney or harsh than usual, had some samples, a lot of kinda distorted instruments. 7.5/10, favorite so far.
Haha sounds weird, is it even music?
Gavin Kelly
merzbow collabs > solo stuff over a million
Ethan Bennett
I might as well. I hope my shitty internet will allow it.
Hunter Walker
Nah, classifies as field recording if anything.
Aaron Diaz
rewoll
Lincoln Baker
Not to be a fucking bitch or anything, but could someone please tell me what 58 is on the chart? I can't load it past the third tier.
William Myers
I agree most of the time, especially his much-maligned digital era Check out Cuts of Guilt, Cuts Deeper if you haven't already
That's about what I figured Thank you for your sacrifice
Alright, short break then I'm onto disc 4 Keep the thread alive
Jeremiah Harris
some red album by impossible nothing, lexonomicon or something
Yeah forget about Blind Date, just don't discard John Duncan as an artist because he's a really talented noise musician part of the early 70s industrial culture, he even did a collab with two members of TG.
For those interested, listen to Riot and Dark Market Broadcast
Caleb Myers
Thanks for the rec/clarification, I'm looking those up now.
Jose Nguyen
Yeah, hanatarash is great Be glad you didn't roll the 50-hour album on 78
Thanks user, I'll definitely check those out once the Merzbox releases me
Daniel Cox
No prob, always good to see some fresh interest in noise around here.
Adam Ortiz
Alright, delving into disc 4 Then I'm probably gonna go play DaS2 til I fall asleep
Caleb Martinez
Damn, lotta percussion right off the bat I'm really into this
Charles Torres
Riot is already a lot more to my liking, very much getting a musique concrete vibe here too.
Jeremiah Jackson
First track is making 4 out to be a solid 8/10
Justin Young
Eh, first track was better This is pretty bland
Nathan Rogers
I'm gonna have to pause for now, as of this moment disc 4 is a 6/10 I'll finish it by tomorrow, I just don't have the energy right now Sorry, lads
Jace Turner
My favourite disc from the Merzbox was Red Magnesia Pink, it's damn good. it's so good it might be one of the top Merzbow discs I've listened to
