I just got a Classic Player Jazzmaster, and now I really want a Mustang or Jag. I've become an OffsetFag.

Self-bump

I have a black Ibanez mikro that I just put neon green strings on and I just bought an Ibanez rg350exz which was like an upgrade and it's the perfect guitar for me. My next guitar will probably be a bc rich beast or a blueberry burst Gibson Les Paul

I also want to get boss chorus and pitch shifter pedals I already have the boss distortion and dynamic wah pedals

I play an Epiphone les paul standard through a peavey vk212 , using a metal muff pedal for sweet sweet distortion. Currently i want to swap the peavy speakers out for vintage 30's or man'o'wars and put a set of dimarzio dominions in my guitar.

I've got a squier and blackstar mini amp. That's all I'll ever need because I'm not a pretentious fuck

I've tried so many Les Pauls. epiphone, gibsons, knock offs, and I could never like them. I don't know why. What draws em to you?

>I've become an OffsetFag.

aka a hipster

ok, friend

I just started and my first guitar is an Epiphone LP Special II
How do I keep the neck balanced? It always wants to tip over.

let me guess, you already have a mandolin and/or a ukulele?

I'm a big fan of single cut designs, i saw mine in the used section of my local music store and couldn't not buy it. It was a great price and it's a color that i feel doesn't get nearly enough love in les paul land.

Get a jag OP more settings so you can duck around with the sounds if you have a higher end amp. I got this jaguar Kurt Cobain edition

i play offsets for surf and country and am not a hipster. OP I recommend the jaguar after getting a jazmaster

God damn autocorrect cucked me

Craigslist musical instrument section is the worst fucking thing in the world

I feel you, I'm the same way with most fender guitars. I don't like their design. idk I'm just not a fan. Are you gonna stick wit an epiphone or try and get a gibson?

wakemeupinside.jpg

No, but nice try.

I can only hope

Thats what I was thinking of getting next. I mainly play surf punk/surf garage and I know these kinda guitars are good for that, which ones would be the best for it?

What kinda reverb do you guys like best?
Spring, Plate, Hall (Room)?

I play a jazzmaster, jaguar and mosrite through a fender twin and 63 reverb tank. both offsets are squier VM's that I handwired and use .12 flatwounds. somewhere in that ballpark is a good start

Man I'm telling you if you want a nice distorted sound, get a Kurt Cobain jaguar because the dimarzio super distortion pickups sound so sweet with distortion, also I got mine for 1806 Canadian, whereas a normal jaguar is like 4000 dollars

i'll one day own me a true gibson. The huge upside of my Epi is that i can tinker with it without feeling real bad, since i know the electronics are pretty cheap and it was made in a sweatshop in korea, so i don't feel like i'm unjustly undoing the work of a venerable craftsman by swapping pickups and wiring and pots and whatnot. I'm a bit of a tinkerer so it being an Epi kind of worked out perfectly for me.

depends on the song. hall is a great go to for all settings. spring has its pros and cons

How do i tune a grampa guitar? For real I don't know how to read music but I love getting stoned and listening to rock

Is it truly worth 1k? Would it be better to get say a squire jag, and just change out the pups?

what are cons of spring?

taking acid, and playing literally any psych garage was the best choice I ever made.

I've always wanted to do that but never really tried. Is it difficult to solder/work on stuff like that?

depends on the unit/amp. the spring reverb on my twin gets really out of control at settings above 5. it gets real shrill and the feedback gets nasty

If you have ever soldered before it's pretty easy. The only real challenge is dealing with the fact that gibson pots are a touch bigger than Epi ones, so you have to enlarge the holes for your knobs if you upgrade to legit gibson hardware.

I have a epi dot copy kit guitar. It was a hundred bucks. Finished and set it up myself. Sounds fucking awesome, plays fucking awesome, looks like shit. Just like a guitar should.

It was so worth it man, the guy at the store said that the price of the guitar will go up because it's a replica of Kurt Cobains, and not only that but the wood quality is better, it feels warmer and better, and it's so satisfying to own an actual fender lol, some may call me a fool for spending that much on a guitar but honestly, it was so worth it and I got the satisfaction I paid for

tonewood: bullshit or nah?

Nah on bulshit. You don't have to spend a ton to get a great sounding guitar. Especially acoustic. Construction makes all the difference.

I'm so broke I'd be perfectly ok with a basswood piece of shit as long as it felt good

I'm not at all a guitar snob but there really is a difference between a Gibson and an Epiphone. It really doesn't matter the electronics you put in it. My most massive Epiphone (LP Custom GX with Dirty Fingers pickups) is a half-weight compared to my Gibson LP Studio (490R and 498T). Mass is such a huge factor in the tone of those guitars.

Learn how to set up a guitar and it doesn't matter what you have. You can make it play well for you.

forsure man, That'd be next big purchase, after a nice bass. Either a older p bass or rick. Not too sure about it yet.

I have 2 squier teles, one with a rosewood neck and other with maple, and just those you can really tell the difference. I mean it's not extreme but it's noticeable. Maybe I'm just tricking myself but I hear it.

Current:
Ibanez RG550

Ibanes RG350ex

Carvin X100-B

some shitty b-52 4x12

Digitech Tube OD

Peavey Vypyr 15 (for practice)

Looking for a newer RG550. MORE IMPORTANTLY going to be buying a Laney IRT studio soon.
youtu.be/NcF-QBHK4Ns?t=28s

I'm trying to find other amps that can do what this thing does. I need something that I can use my headphones with or have a volume that doesn't leave my ears (and everyone who lives with me) rekt.

Tubemeister 18 is not viable. Tried one at a local guitar store and so unimpressed. I spent a while with it and couldn't' find a decent tone.

If I were to choose I'd go Rick, such great sound, a bit pricy tho, coming from a guy who spent 1k on a guitar lel

Gibsons. Most of them.

these threads are always hilarious. i dont know what it is about music threads on Sup Forums but they always attract the dumbest people

yeah ricks have such a famous tone that you can only get with them, I mean jazz can get close but not enough. Plus they just look so nice. The jetglo ricks are beauts.

Bullshit

Nice, My curent set up:
Carvin 4x10 bass cab

Peavy Supreme Transtube (I actually really like it and its built like a tank, suprisingly good for surf/punk.)

Fender Classic Player Jazzmaster

Squire tele

Big Muff

your basic EQ and drive pedals

a danelectro chorus

a dod flanger

and I litterally just order a sorta cheap joyo delay and a biyang xdrive

Before I thought stratocasters and/or telecaster guitars had the cleanest sharpest sound, but then I heard a rickenbacker and I was so wrong, if only they were cheaper

Hmmm
is samefag I know what i'm talking about. I have Gibsons, Epis, a Mexi strat, USA strat, G&L's, Ibanez, Jackson, etc. In the end, any of them can sound fantastic when properly set up. Any of them, poorly set up or maintained, can be sold on eBay at a discount to fags like me who take advantage of technical ineptitude. Any guitar can sound good in the right hands.

if you're good with guitar electronics, you can probably get a pretty beat up one and fix it up really nice for not THAT pricey.

Yeah true, but hey, to each their own

The dream is to one day have the disposable income for arickenbacker lightshow. Until then, I've git a nice blue Ibanez.

Bass: German Warwick Corvette $$ active

(It can get a lot of sounds, can sound like a Pbass, Musicman, Jazz, etc. The tone I have now is similar to Tool "Schism")

Guitar: Edwards Horison, with SD Black Winters

( I love this guitar, but I play in a lof of different tunings, so I plan on getting two more ESP Horizon.)

Tunings I use:

E standard
Drop C
Drop G#
F standard

My guitar tone is similar to killswitch Engage, very modern Recto/5150 sound with a tube screamer. I prefer amp sims over real amps.

...

Ricks hold their value really well so it's hard to find a good deal.

Because they are neck-thru, have a high mass bridge, and their own pickup design it makes it hard to copy the sound.

Most bass companies that make their own pickups won't sell them aftermarket, or they raise the price.

A German Warwick humbucker is like $300 US, but Alembic bass pickups are like $2k lol.

Come to Sup Forums and be a fa/gg/ot, Sup Forums.

You must have never heard of MIJ Fender Jaguars.

$800 and you can get a matching headstock, the US ones are WAY overpriced.

x-posted from Sup Forums gg:

Got a friend selling a Marshall JCM 900 1x12 50w for £400 - seems low for how good the amp is. Yes or no?

I would. Even if you end up not liking it/wanting it, you can probably resell it for more and make a bit of money

fuck you evan

The wood type does matter.

Go play a Les Paul made of swamp ash, or a Strat made of Mahogany and they will sound completely different than the standard woods.

Basswood is easily the worst. It isn't even structurally sound, strap buttons rip out because it is so soft, it's also the cheapest wood there is.

...

"Squiers and mini amps are for faggots"

- David Gilmour

Not arguing that wood doesn't matter. It absolutely does. I posted in either this thread or the \mu thread that there's a huge difference between an Epiphone Prophecy and a Gibson Les Paul Studio. I'm just saying here don't dismiss a guitar because of the nameplate and "rank". Lower ranking guitars can be made to sound every bit as good as a higher ranking guitar, depending on whose hands it falls in. So learn to set up a guitar and make it sound as good as it can. Make sense?

Scientific proof you dumb faggot:

Now what bitch!

>"The only thing I hate more than a queer is a nigger." - David Gilmour

Professional musician of 30 years here, this is truth. If you know what you're doing, any guitar can sound however you'd like it to. For the most part, brands are just a fashion statement. As long as the neck is straight and the frets haven't been worn down to uselessness, a little maintenance and knowledge go a long way.

Look, obviously a guitar made out of balsa wood is going to be shit and fall apart. The wood does matter.

Also, , you're super hilarious and all but tonewood does make a slight difference. But it's pretty slight and can be easily compensated for through amplification. Unless you're playing pure acoustic, the difference is there but pretty negligible. The player will hear it far moreso than anyone in the audience would.

Tonewood isn't bullshit, but it's a very small consideration overall.

Thank you. I think that, in general, people don't know how to set up an instrument. And when they fail, they blame it on the guitar, not their own incompetence.

Which isn't to blame therm for their incompetence. If you don't know what to do to set up an instrument, it can be hard...

>*wrap wrap warp*
>oh, ha, user, didn't see you there
>what is does your Gibson there have a heh, mahagony-- body guitar? That isn't really what you'd call, resonant. You would know if you ever browsed the Tonewood Library® locked away in the Tone Vault ® next to my office. But, user, those are only for the Private Reserve ® customers.

You can't make a strat sound like a Les Paul, and you can't make a Les Paul sound like a strat. Period.

youtube.com/watch?v=7iGXP_UBog4

Oh, for sure. People will blame a hilarious array of things on their instruments when it almost always comes down to their incompetence. "It isn't that I never bothered to actually learn how to play the instrument, the problem is the guitar itself!"

Douchebags have given the entire instrument a bad reputation, unfortunately. Technique or basic maintenance, I'm always gobsmacked by the shit people try to pull.

Bull fucking shit I can't. Done it, not that hard.

Case in point: Anyone who wants a strat to sound like a Gibbo has spent his money in much the wrong way...

It can be hard if you're trying to figure it out from scratch, but there's about a million resources to help anyone figure it out. I chalk it up to general laziness, frankly. If you can't learn your scales or how to set up a guitar, then anything you play will sound like shit. That's fine, I accept that there's shit guitar players in the world and whatever, but I am pretty tired of mediocre (at best) guitarists always trying to prove they have a bigger guitar dick than they do.

>oh, hey user, didn't see you there
>wow, I just pulled this fine specimen from the PRS Tone Library ®, listen to that even the same pitch all over the body
>*knock knock knock*
>wow
>oh, whats that user, your guitar is made of alder? Thats too bad. That is not a tonewood.
>I have all the tonewoods here in my ToneVault ®.
>Nope, sorry user, the Tones belong to me and my PRS Private Reserve® customers only
>I'm afraid your guitar doesn't qualify

Because you think you were able to do that, I can tell you are a shit producer.

I've seen fags like you before, you think you can make your Dimebag signature guitar sound like a Spanish made nylon classical acoustic.

No you can't bitch.

We've been talking electric guitars, genius. Acoustic is a different animal, and I've said so elsewhere in this thread. But you keep intentionally misinterpreting the entire context to make yourself feel superior.

I can damn near anything sound like an acoustic run through an amp, however.

And also, because you have no ability to read/comprehend a basic conversation without derailing it for your own purposes/use basic inference skills, I can tell that you're a shit producer who hears what they want to hear and are incapable of being useful to anyone but their own bullshit. Fuck off and die, faggot.

>I can damn near anything sound like an acoustic run through an amp

>u before, you
There's the technical resource aspect, yes. It can be hard to learn what the terms mean. I've been playing guitar for 27 years, I've been a structural engineer for 18 years, but it was only the last 5-6 years that the two disciplines made sense together...

Made a typo there, I'll own that. "I can make damn near anything sound like an acoustic run through an amp."

My bad. Sorry you couldn't figure out what the verb was supposed to be.

>my intellectual superior
>can't write a complete sentence
you only get to choose one faggatron

Take your finger out of your ass and point to where I said my intellect was superior. I'll wait.

>40 years old
>on Sup Forums
consider suicide
>admits his intellect is inferior
well that was easy

...

Alright, last post before I go to bed because you're boring the shit out of me. You first said that I was claiming to be your intellectual superior and submitted evidence that it wasn't true. I was actually accusing you of being unable to properly read my posts and get my meaning, instead hearing what you want to hear--I was calling you arrogant to the point of retardation, not necessarily stupid. Told you to point to where I said I was intellectually superior to draw attention to the fact that I didn't, and your own stupid fucking mind decided to misread it into my admitting my intellect is inferior.

You are a faggot and useless.

Nah. Got baby girls that are far better people than me, and I want them to be far better people than you. I bet u understand, tho.

>b-but m-muh experience
lol you dicking around in your bedroom makes you a "professional musician" now? nice try gramps

You have been playing guitar for 27 years and you think you can make anything sound like an acoustic instrument through an amp.

Simply eat shit and die you failure.

lol tl;dr

I'm glad digital production has gotten so good. It makes all of these old fart producers skill's worthless.

"I know how to"...SHUT UP FAGGOT!

Sorry. Haven't been dicking around in my bedroom. I have a dwelling that has multiple viable rooms. It's called a Home. My room dedicated to music is only 800 square feet. I've gone through many opportunities to play with some great musicians, both live and recorded. When you're ready to let us know what you've contributed, just feel froggy and leap.

lol the retard thought he was going to come in here and shut everybody up with
>muh 30 years uh playin moosic
and when we pushed back he ran off like a busted ass bitch

Im after a phant o matic but sadly my bank account is emptier than schools in kentucky

LOL
THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO BED FAGGOT?
WHAT HAPPENED?
YOU DRANK A BIG GLASS OF FAGGOT JUICE AND WOKE THE FUCK BACK UP?!?

No.

so it was a big plate of faggot chow then?

No one gives a fuck that you played drums for Wynonna Judd once.
