The gradual decline of optimism at home due to almost 20 years of stagnant economic growth reflects on their media.
Back in 1990s, they were after the optimistic growth explosion of the 80's era so their media reflected happy energy.
Now, a lot of the media focus on escapism, using ever more bizzare themes to escape from reality. Themes that dissociate them from their tepid reality and further alienates international consumers of the Japanese brand. Technology and the internet was also a great disruptor in the level of socialization and trust the average Japanese has with one another and further amplifies Japanese tendancy for escapism/solitude in the face of hardship.
Japan is going for a very slow decline, I suspect by 2100 Japanese will either become ever more isolated from one another in pockets of comforts tended to by machines or they become an immigrant society only to have them go full Banzai mode further down the road.
tl;dr - Bad economic conditions lead to worsening sense of optimism leading to tendancy for escapism and anti-social behavior. Internet pours salt on this wound by encouraging it.

because korean contents are such ”products" to sell in east/se asia market. they sell it to you and pander to you with such marketing tactics because its actually the way they make money. they cant get by only in their domestic market unlike japanese entertainments, thus they have do it always. a bunch of normies of yours have just been sold on it.

the japanese pop culture industry is self-sustaining at a domestic level. asian weebs in the 90s were leeches in the purest sense, in that it literally did not matter to a japanese whether other asians liked their stuff or not because the difference in quality was so blatantly obvious. japan probably seemed "cool" back then to its neighbors because they were pretty much the only asian country at the same level of western countries. cool cars, cool clothes, cool videogames, cool electronics. other asian countries have caught up now and so japan is now less noted for their "cool" stuff but for their "weird" and "geeky" stuff people can't find back in their home countries.
