What are some good modern prog rock albums? The ones that you enjoy as much as classics like Yes, Genesis or KC?

I'd love to see a chart more like "If you like Tarkus you'll like [these], if you like Discipline, you'll like [these], if you like Abacab or Duke you'll like [these]"

Porsupine Tree
Ocenasize
Riverside

Battles - Mirrored

Is this the best Mars Volta album?

kek, this is really good.. and also a direct copy of Mars Volta. funny enough, their previous album was a copy of Tool

It is, with Frances as a very -very- close second

It doesn't even sound remotely like either. The only similarity between this record and Mars Volta is the vocals.

kekd

I remember a friend recommending me Rishloo saying they sounded like Tool. I put on Feathergun and immediately thought my friend was an idiot. The guitar work and vocals are very distinct.

Good defense.

albums are very different from each other
I don't know Feathergun but Eidolon definitely has a strong Tool vibe

...

This and Karnivool

kys daniel

that's a nice cover

which tool and volta albums are they copies of? would love to check them out

new Steve Hackett album

and new Kairon IRSE one too

>new Steve Hackett album

Leprous, mostly Coal.

Just watched a video of them playing Contaminate Me live. Goddamn, they go hard: youtube.com/watch?v=78-vJwCVJvk

Yeah the vocalist sounds like a broadway singer, too cleancut for the sound they are going for desu

The Finnish band Hidria Spacefolk is pretty good.
They've been described as a mix between Kingston Wall and Ozric Tentacles and I think that's quite fitting.

>like a broadway singer

What does that even mean?

...

I'm no closer to understanding you. He has a high range and likes using vibrato, if that's what you're talking about. I think it meshes very well with their sound.

Recommending Porcupine Tree. Some of their earlier stuff is GOAT space/psych rock too

Hit me with some instrumental or mostly instrumental stuff. I've been on a CHON and Animals as Leaders kick lately.
