@72372720

I think you're just fishing for some (You)s

Both great 70s bands that fuckin sucked in the 80s

The Clash are my favourite band so obviously I'll go with them. I don't understand the appeal of Ramones really. I'd like to get in to them but they almost come off as pop punk to me... really weak vocals which lack the bite of Strummer's and other punk singers of the time, muddy sounding guitars which are not brought alive in the mix (compare I Wanna Be Sedated with White Riot), pretty dull lyrics compared to the challenging lyrics of their contemporaries, and a pop style of songwriting which they never shook off.

Can someone change my mind by giving me a god tier Ramones song to listen to now please? I wanna like em.

paul simonon looks like he's calling on a cellular phone

Well you described the Ramones pretty well, they are pop punk, they're just considered "punk" because they were one of the first. They're songs are clearly largely influenced by bubblegum pop and 60's girl groups. If that doesn't appeal to you there isn't really a song I could show you that would change your mind. I would just recommend the first 4 Ramones albums and if you don't like them you just don't like the band, which is fine

The clash because they actually had real talent and were competent musicals

I see, fair enough. I don't dislike the Ramones or anything, but I guess they're just wedged too awkwardly between the genres for me personally. If I want to listen to some punk, I'll go for something more energy than the somewhat pedestrian Ramones, and if I want to listen to pop I'll probably just listen to something with cleaner production. Ah well, maybe they'll grow on me some day.

I can see that, that may be one reason I don't listen to them much anymore. There's "poppier" sounding stuff and more aggressive sounding stuff so if you're craving one of those sounds there are better more "extreme" options. Plus the Ramones songs are insanely simple and straight forward, not much complexity, so I could see the music having limited replay value due to that, yet that straight forwardness is also the appeal of the band for people who like them

...

>implying Sex Pistols isn't the best

ramones. never heard a good song by the clash.

The Replacements
British punk rock is so shit, the best music to come from britbongistan was Post-punk, shoegaze, and Kate Bush

>implying you have taste

kys

How does Joe Strummer rate as a guitarist?

average, remember he only played rhythm

great songwriter though

fuck outta here

nah he could solo, albeit imprecisely
to me being a good songwriter and good guitarist are tied together

More of a strummer than a shredder

>influence
ramones
>ability
clash
>consistency
ramones
>high points
clash
>cultural significance
this one's a tie because they both had impacts in their regions
>punkness
this one's up to you

well it's a good thing he's not called Joe Shredder

X-Ray Spex

punkness should undoubtedly go to ramones

a gang of shithead kids from queens will always without question be more punk than some british faggots
