Game 7 was a decent representation of how the Cubs' season went. We started out ahead, never gave up the lead, started slipping before the all star break (the rain delay) and then finished with a bang.
Thoughts?
Also,
>We
daily reminder the cardinals had a larger payroll in 2016
Guys, hang onto your butts. Expect a 3-peat!
>Kyle Schwarber now healthy and cautious. Will become an everyday LF'r, and will finally become a solid defender. In '17, he will hit 45 HRs and bat .290
>Kris Bryant will get even better, and become an everyday 3rd baseman since Maddon finally figured out what to do with the bench. In '17, KB will hit over 50 HRs and bat .310, blossoming into an undisputable Hall of Famer.
>Anthony Rizzo will finally catch onto the fact that his bat is too big, and switches to Szczurs bat. His '17 stat line will improve to 40 HRs, .300 BA. Rizzo will win another Gold Glove award, and will amass 120 RBIs.
>Dexter Fowler will leave Chicago, but the Cubs will instead put Jason Heyward in Center, and Albert Almora in RF. Almora Jr. will shine in '17, amassing 25 HRs and batting .275. He will be a gold glove contender in RF.
>Javy Baez will improve even more. He will have the best defensive season in history, and will be the unanimous gold glover at 2B. Baez will put up Sandberg numbers, hitting 30 HRs with a .285 BA, and have 25 SBs.
>Russell will continue to tear shit up, winning another Gold Glove, hitting 25 HRs with a .260 BA. Russell will also have 95 RBIs.
>Willson Contreras will become the best hitting catcher in the game in '17. After throwing out 90% of runners with Javy's tagging skills, not even Dee Gordan will dare run on him again, even with Lester at the dish.
Now, regarding pitching:
>Kyle Hendricks, the defending Cy Young award winner will come out, looking for blood. He will amass a record of 22-6, with a stunning 1.57 ERA. Hendricks is under team control through 2021.
>Jake Arrieta, no stranger to the Cy Young award, will be competing with Hendricks, and amass a 21-8 record, with a 1.78 ERA. Arrieta will resign with the Cubs after a 6 year, 180 million dollar contract is signed. Arrieta will be the 2017 NLCS MVP after throwing a No-Hitter against the Washington Nationals.
>Jon Lester will try to outdo himself, and win 20 games for the first time in his career, with a 2.10 ERA.
>Aroldis Chapman will resign with the Cubs for a 2 year deal at a cool $50 million. Chapman will be World Series MVP, after blanking the Rangers in 8 innings through a 4 game series sweep.
>Jason Hammel will continue to improve, pitching a respectable 17-9 3.05 ERA line.
>John Lackey will be moved to a middle-reliever, and will not make the World Series roster. He will be spending his last season in the MLB fishing off Lake Michigan.
>Carl Edwards Jr. will beef up, and throw 101 mph. The Cubs are grooming him as their elite closer in '19.
>Mike Montgomery will be the Cubs #5 starter, pitching his best season ever with a record of 16-10, and a 3.42 ERA.
>The Cubs paid their way to victory
>In the middle two thirds of the league in salaries
What are the other 11 teams excuses for not winning the world series?
funny how people discount that many of their large contracts are from players that came from within the cubs farm system anyway.
I bet the Phillies thought the same thing after 2008
Yeah, they have no excuses. IMO, there are too many teams in the MLB. Some teams, like the Rays, or the White Sox or the Padres, are small market teams. Not many people care about them, outside of a few neighborhoods of a city. To level the playing field, there should be 10 less teams. Wouldn't be too hard to cut:
-Tampa Bay Rays
-Oakland A's
-Chicago White Sox
-San Diego Padres
-Pittsburg Pirates (or Phillies)
-Kansas City Royals
-Washington Nationals
-Seattle Mariners
-Milwaukee Brewers
Except the Cubs are already 3-1 favorites to win the 2017 World Series. Their power rankings are through the roof next season.
I still smile when I think about the night there were 3 baseball stickies at once and europoors were never more assblasted.
Truly a day that will go down in shitposting history.
>white sox
>small market
No senpai, they aren't small market. They just have shit fans that don't go to games.
Congratulations, you're just another team with nothing special about you whatsoever now. You lost what made you you.
>there's an alternate universe where the Tribe swept the Cusb 4-0
I love how triggered eurocucks get about American sports
Thought the same thing, too.
It also reminded me of the 2011 cards and how game 6 and their whole playoff run was a microcosm of their whole season, much like this game 7 for da Cubbies.
hahahaha not this one faggot
1 peat is enough for you guys.
Time for the Giants to Fourpeat, however.
>it's a bad guys win episode
> White Sox = good guys
>We
>Cusb
Who /lifelong/ here?
Wouldn't you be bitter if all you had to watch was soccer?
Im sure theres a ton of us, WGN was a nationwide network back in the 90's, I grew up watching them.
The road to victory is paved in the blood, often that of your own comrades
>KC Royals
Hol' up
Get the fuck out of her you schmuck. KC got some of the best world series ratings in the past decade/2 of baseball.
If the A's and Rays can't get a new stadium they should seriously get relocated
>>winning a World Series after being down 3-1 with the best regular season record in baseball is nothing special
I wonder if the rays would do better in Puerto rico
can somebody post the chief wahoo pepe pic plz?
>mfw this isn't even wholly unreasonable
>yfw you realize that after game two of the WS Schwarber had the highest postseason OPS in history, ahead of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, at age 23 with less than 100 career games in the big leagues.
>caring about an asterix'd WS
so does the curse move onto the team the Cubs beat? Cleveland better strap in to never win a title ever again
no it goes to the yankees
>white sox
FUCKING KILL YOURSELF REEEEEEEEEE
The rally was awesome.

Way to go cubbies!
>divegrass ever being relevant in countries that matter
lmao
How the fuck can we get rid of Jason Heyward, lads?
I think he'll bounce back, at least be a .260 hitter with 15+ homers and gold glove defense.
He'll have the off season to clean up that gaping hole in his swing, and how he's a champion, so he'll have a different mindset going into the year.
But if not, we're gonna be stuck with him at least until 2018, he can opt out of his contract then but if he still sucks ass he probably won't
His glove is definitely a huge boon for the Cubs. Yeah, he wasn't the greatest hitter this year, but you're also comparing him to one of the most stacked teams in the MLB.
I don't know, we'll see how he plays next year, I don't want to see the Cubs get rid of him yet.
Cubs win the World Series. Life is amazing
Cubs had a payroll of 182 million, I think you have the wrong year buddy.

>2 days later and literally no one cares anymore
time to put this sport in its grave next to your boomers folks
Can you provide any sources, mi amigo?
You're not in Chicago, it's still a huge deal here.
Another pitcher killed by Dusty Baker.
Prior could have been good for more than two years if he had a different manager.
>Schwarber starting LF
>Bench Zobrist
Ur a special kind of stupid arent you
>(you)
>Cubs had twice the payroll of the other team
Nice "sport."
>tfw I got Priors and Woods autograph at spring training after their arms were already ruined
I hate Dusty Baker, the fact that he turned this:
youtu.be
into a reliever fills me with rage.
>But first they had to beat the team with the highest payroll
The gap between the Cubs payroll and the Indians is less than between the Cubs and Dodgers. What's your fucking point?
It was 3-1
Retired jpg
Yet the poor Indians beat the rich Red Sox.
Proof anyone can beat anyone because it is a sport and not stock trading.
>when you see it
is dis shit real?
Yeah. Its the Yankeeography episode for Bernie Williams
...
>Not a Cubs fan
>Not before, not after
>Will be wearing a World Series Champions hat for all of those Cubs fans that couldn't, though
Am I a bad person?
As far as reasons for a non cubs fan to wear a cubs hat, that's the best one i've ever heard.
BARTMAN VINDICATED
>Cubes win 2017 WS

and the cycle continues
they won it for gramps
Fuck, I fucking hate Cubs """fans"""""""
>Cardcucks
Grandpa Rossy
>There's an alternate universe where the Cubs have won the last 108 years straight and this was the first loss in a century
>Meanwhile, the number 2 and 4 highest payrolls didn't even make the playoffs
sometimes a large payroll just means the team is stupid when it comes to who they give fat contracts to.
that edwin jackson $10m/yr will be off the books soon
You're retarded. The only team beyond hope is Tampa, who shouldnt be eliminated but moved.
The 2nd worst MLB team on per-game attendance would be 11th best in the NBA.
We now live in a universe where the Cubs won the World Series; and Cleveland now stands with the longest championship drought.
I feel a little bad for leaveland - I'd have cheered for the injuns out of solidarity if they had been playing anyone else
but they got an apehoop trophy this year after being down 3-1, so this was basically karma
>Cant wait to see leflop in a cubs uniform on december 2
We don't have to wait till next year, right guys?
oh, Im already waiting
the parade is over
I just need hawkey to carry me until april

why don't people realize how many of the cubs regulars are from their farm system? Why is it a negative that they reward those guys with good contracts?
Most of their payroll went to players like Lester, Arrieta, Lackey, Chapman, honestly pretty much all of their pitchers apart from Hendricks.
You need good pitching to win the World Series, obviously the Cubs paid a lot to get those pitchers, but I mean Hendricks was probably their best pitcher this entire season and playoffs, so I don't know.
Cubs are just an MLB team who are trying to win. They shouldn't be expected to exclusively use their farm system to win, that's silly.
It still doesnt seem real.
Wow just Wow...we did it wow
is there a video of bryant on jimmy kimmel yet?

Lads, earlier today I was reflecting on how we now have the shortest championship drought in all of North American professional sports.
Then I thought "no wait, that can't be true", even though it's obviously true because the world series ended just a few days ago. Then I thought "but that still somehow isn't true, though, isn't it?" It took about 5 minutes for my brain to finally accept that indeed, it's true, the Chicago fucking Cubs have the shortest championship drought out of any team in American sports.
I've never felt such a mixture of surrealism and awesomeness at the same time.
I am seriously so goddamn happy that even this totally unfunny, typically lame SNL skit made me grin like a dumbass.
I'm seriously just so fucking happy. I watched those guys twerk and even though it was a dumb skit and I hate SNL, I laughed. I just laughed so god damn hard. I love these guys. I love this team. I love watching them be stupid and have fun. I thought the feeling of joy would fade by now but I'm seriously just so fucking happy.
thank you based bill
