If Art Metal were a genre who would you say fits in it?
>inb4 >implying metal can be art
If Art Metal were a genre who would you say fits in it?
tool is the only band pretentious enough.
I'd say Deftones could fit as well
Some of the more reflective post-metal (Isis, Cult of Luna) and non-sporkcore avant-garde (Thy Catafalque) are what I'd consider "art metal", but those genres already have enough headassery going on so calling them "art metal" just makes it worse
The Devin Townsend Project
Kayo Dot
deftones is the only answer. only a band that gets labelled nu metal is unpretentious enough to be art metal without crossing the boundary into fedoracore
What makes music 'art' though? I think art pop and art rock are ridiculously loaded terms. They don't even describe the music at hand (no, RYM's genre descrption doesn't work in this case, it does a shoddy job at that). It just seems like a way to pretend some shit is high-brow when there are enough pretentious hipsters agreeing that something is good to their ears.
Gorguts, seeing as they have the TMR of metal and their last full-length had a string quartet track on it.
Liturgy, obviously.
Also this
And also, only IDM sounds nearly as pretentious, but at least the actual term is hidden behind an acronym.
Isis
Vektor
Wintersun
Gojira
Leprous
Periphery
Soilwork
Paradise Lost
Galneryus
Semargl
Whitesnake
Rings of Saturn
Epicardiectomy
Fear Factory
Maybe some of Ihsahn's more abstract stuff. Parts of After and Das Seelenbrechen come to mind.
I can't into Gorguts, they are literally 2complex4me
This is correct.
Katatonia
>Whitesnake
Die glamfag die
Others are on point though
Or the vastly superior project, maudlin of the well
Persefone
Oh Sleeper
Man I don't get the worship for Maudlin. I mean theyre solid enough but, Choirs of the Eye and Hubardo are leagues ahead of anything that Maudlin did.
Keep trying, it's really worth it if you're into death metal. If you can't get into Obscura, you can try listening to Pleiades' Dust and Colored Sands first.
Absolutely, both of the first two maudlin albums are decent at very best. They just don't execute the vocals well at all
it's amazing how not a single band out of this whole list isn't pure garbage for teenagers
Maudlin doesn't sound pretentious and hipstery enough like Kayo.
Choirs of the Eye and Hubardo, while I used to really like both, aged like shit and end up sounding pretty mediocre now
I feel like there's so much more in metal than Toby Driver playground bands
Ved Buens Ende
Mr Bungle
DTP
t. nu-male
Choirs production hasn't aged the best, I'll totes agree on that, but Hubardo is still a somewhat recent album and it still sounds solid. Those tracks with the backing choirs man.
