What was even the point of everything new? It was just two completely different stories that happened one after the other.

It was hot. I especially loved the way it upset so many people who are too stubborn to realize these aren't the same characters from the book.

Batgirl says early on in the movie that she's been working with the Batman for about 3 years. She's already an adult at this point, and wouldn't have had the "father daughter" relationship with Bruce.

A Batgirl falls in love with Batman.

Waaaaay back in the 70s. when Barbara Gordon Batgirl was introduced (not even the first Batgirl) She was older then what she usually is depicted as nowadays and was a potential love interest for Batman.

Fast forward 3-4 decades and 2 company wide continuity changing reboots Babs is college age and usually in an on again off again Nightwing aka Dick Grayson, the first robin and DC's resident manslut.

Bruce Timm is nostalgic for that old retro Babs I guess. Not the first time he made Babs and Bruce fuck.

The Batgirl shit in the beginning doesn't even happen in the comic its based off of. like 40% of the movie is made up filler.

DC has been fucking awful with their animated movies for years. There's only been like 3 decent ones in the last 4-5 years. Still better than anything Marvel's animation has shit out though.

Those people aren't the same people. The people who complained about her being a prop are now complaining because it wasn't all about her and what was about her was about the men in her life. People who are complaining it detracts from the story never wanted any Batgirl focus to begin with.

All they needed to do to flesh Babs out and keep things thematically intact was have those thirty minutes show pieces of their history; the first time Bats takes on the Joker with a young Dick and Babs, some time Joker kidnaps her and Bats promises to never let him hurt her again, and then Jason's death and how it affected them both and changed everything. You'll have your extra Babs characterisation whilst not fucking up the story.

Granted this wouldn't save it from the lack of direction or mediocre artstyle or awful animation.

I fucking love Mask of the Phantasm but thought Under the Red Hood was totally trash.

The animation shown in the trailer is really putting me off seeing it but I like the idea behind the story.

1:1 adaptations never happen. pretty much all DC movies are based off comic arcs and have some changes. most of the current ones are several slapped together.

Under the Red Hood switched out the hit squad of D-list villains from Secret Society of Supervillains (Hyena, Captain Nazi) to generic robo ninjas.

The best are Crisis on Two Earths, Apocalypse, TDKR, and Flashpoint.

Wonder Woman, GL: First Flight, Under the Red Hood, and Assault on Arkham are very good also.

Those three are solid and UTRD is the best one.
