NOW

Who is that anyways?

Arguably most influential but no not the best lyricist by any means.
>inb4 IF I FUCK THIS MODEL

youtu.be/OwSpn4pmv9Q?t=2m51s

I love Kanye, but the first time I heard this album, the first time I heard this track, my friends and I were on the floor in fucking tears at how hilarious this part was.

Still a pretty entertaining album.

Feelin better than some head on a Sunday afternoon
Better than a chick that say yes too soon
Until you have a daughter that's what I call karma
And you pray to God she don't grow breasts too soon
Projects to' up, gang signs is thrown up
Niggas hats broke off, that's how we grow up
Why else you think shorties write rhymes just to blow up?
Get they first car and then IRS show up
He ain't never had shit, but he had that 9
Nigga come through flickin and he had that shine
Put 2 and 2 together and a little bad weather
Gon' be your whole family on that funeral line
Asked the reverend was the strip clubs cool
If my tips helped send a pretty girl through school
That's all I want, like winos want they good whiskey
I ain't in the Klan but I brought my hood with me

what part? you linked the whole song.

College Dropout Kanye is something totally and completely different than what we now have with Yeezus and The Life of Pablo. There are much more influential artists out there in the way of lyricism. Some that haven't even been around nearly as long as he has.

WUZ

IF

That's weird, it shows up that I linked a part.

Anyway, 2:50

That's Late Registration, dumbass.
>completely different than what we now have with Yeezus and The Life of Pablo.
My momma was raised in the era when
Clean water was only served to the fairer skin
Doin' clothes you would have thought I had help
But they wasn't satisfied unless I picked the cotton myself
You see it's broke nigga racism
That's that "Don't touch anything in the store"
And it's rich nigga racism
That's that "Come in, please buy more"
"What you want, a Bentley? Fur coat? A diamond chain?
All you blacks want all the same things"
Used to only be niggas, now everybody playin'
Spendin' everything on Alexander Wang
New Slaves

or

Friday night tryna make it into the city
Breakneck speeds, passenger seat somethin' pretty
Thinking back to how I got here in the first place
Second class bitches wouldn't let me on first base
A backpack nigga with luxury taste buds
And the Louis Vuitton store, got all of my pay stubs
Got pussy from beats I did for niggas more famous
When did I become A list? I wasn't even on a list
Strippers get invited to where they only got hired
When I get on my Steve Jobs, somebody gon' get fired
I was uninspired since Lauryn Hill retired
And 3 Stacks, man, you preach it to the choir
Any rumor you ever heard about me was true and legendary
I done got Lewinsky and paid secretaries
For all my niggas with babies by bitches
That use they kids as meal tickets
Not knowin' the disconnect from the father
The next generation will be the real victims

The screaming is what made you laugh? You're a child.

It's not like we laughed to the screaming alone. It's the screaming placed on a hard beat after such hilarious lyrics as "HURRY UP WITH THE DAMN CROISSANTS"

I am a god
I am a god
I am a god *distorted deep devil voice*

To be fair, we were only 20 at the time when we heard the track.

You should be embarrassed.

I'm not. Kanye's music is fun, and at times laughable.

You clearly can't into post-irony

Yeezus is a masterpiece you pleb

The Life of Pablo is a better album in every way you tiny-brained contrarion

he is the master of the one-liner.
Kanye is not a great rapper, but he's a funny, well-spoken guy with sharp wit. His lines are super quotable, possibly the best shit talker of all time.

I find myself laughing at his rhymes more than anything, and I'm perfectly fine with that.

"WIFEY GONNA KILL ME, SHE'S THE FEMALE O.J."

just stupid, shit-eating-grin type stuff like that. I dig it.

he's not even the best lyricist in the beatles

Lil Wayne circa tha carter III is the one liner master.

I like TLOP but respectfully disagree about it being better

My point is Yeezus rides the line between satire and art like few other things can, hence post-irony. Other albums that do this include Pinkerton and White Album.

Yeah, that was Weezy's wheelhouse for sure.
But he was more into lines like: "Dear Mr. Toilet, I'm the shit".

Mostly eye-rollers. Yeezy genuinely makes me laugh.

Well I think you're alright.

I still don't understand how laughing at some of the outrageous things Kanye says invalidates my taste in his works. You don't take everything he has written stone-faced do you? You never laughed at a line he has said?

Exactly the opposite actually, I do laugh but I look at it as a good thing. Yeezus to me is like a mix of a Weird Al album and a Swans album. It somehow is able to make fun of itself but still feel artistic.

On Sight is my favourite Kanye song and I laugh throughout most of it. I do understand not everyone shares this view of Yeezus though.

>Kanye is not a great rapper

He probably means Kanye isnt a "technical" lyricist really. I agree but this doesnt mean hes not a great rapper, hope that meme dies soon

Absolutely not. I respect him as a producer, but as a lyricist he's nowhere near the best. Even Eminem is better than him lyrically

I

Fuck no, that's Kendrick. Ye is a fantastic artist but I still think that Kenny is the best lyricist.

>show me something natural like ass with some stretch marks

It'll never die, just like the whole "Kendrick is Kanye without the Kardashians" meme will never die, Kanye and Kendrick are nothing alike and never have been outside of being black rappers with K names.

lyrical ability != technical ability.

Me and my niggas tryna get it, ya bish
Hit the house lick: tell me, is you wit' it, ya bish?
Home invasion was persuasive
From nine to five I know it's vacant, ya bish
Dreams of livin' life like rappers do
Back when condom wrappers wasn't cool
I fucked Sherane and went to tell my bros
Then Usher Raymond "Let It Burn" came on
Hot sauce all in our Top Ramen, ya bish
Park the car, then we start rhymin', ya bish
The only thing we had to free our mind
Then freeze that verse when we see dollar signs
You lookin' like a easy come-up, ya bish
A silver spoon I know you come from, ya bish
And that's a lifestyle that we never knew
Go at a reverend for the revenue

best lyricist of all time.

FUCK

Kanye is the best lyricist because he's the most profound and most sincere, no other rapper comes close in terms of raw emotional honesty.

Remember when Lil Wayne ruined the entirety of Graduation and 808s with his shit features?

that didn't happen though.

>Kendrick is Kanye without the Kardashians
I have never heard this in my life, not even on here.

Doesn't a meme have to start before it can "never die"?

THIS

hes not even an above average lyricist. and im a fan of his music overall.

Cherry-picking bait

PENITENTIARY CHANCES
THE DEVIL DANCES

>Hell-raising, wheel-chasing, new worldy possessions
>Flesh-making, spirit-breaking, which one would you lessen?
>The better part, the human heart
>You love ’em or dissect 'em
>Happiness or flashiness? How do you serve the question?
He's the Greatest Rapper of this Generation, get over it.

Check those trips

You should consider venturing outside of Sup Forums.
Kanye and Kendrick are compared all the time, and Kendrick being a version of Kanye that didn't "stray from the path" is an opinion repeated frequently on Twitter, Tumblr, in YouTube videos, news publications, and agreed upon by thousands of people. Here's two examples off the top of my head:

bet.com/news/music/2016/02/16/kendrick-lamar-is-everything-kanye-west-is-supposed-to-be.html
twitter.com/Trevornoah/status/699424617463676932

I see this idea repeated all the time all over social media.

HOW? Kendrick fans always talk about how amazing Money Trees is.

>>Hell-raising, wheel-chasing, new worldy possessions
>>Flesh-making, spirit-breaking, which one would you lessen?
>>The better part, the human heart
>>You love ’em or dissect 'em
>>Happiness or flashiness? How do you serve the question?
This is really surface level stuff said in a needlessly complex way.

forgot to include this one.

uproxx.com/realtalk/joe-budden-podcast-kendrick-lamar-kanye-west-two-greats/

when rhymefest used to write his verses yes

need this meme to end too.

No

do the math faggot, ryhmefest stopped "co-writing" with him before yeezus

yeah and it's total shit I've seen this said so much and it's really dumb Kanye and Kendrick are not only friends, but are artists in completely different wavelengths there is no competition here or anything. They have crossover in fanbase I guess, but their body of works are completely different.

Lucy was 87, upon her death bed
At the senior home, where she had previously checked in
Traded in the locks and clips for a head rest
Traded in the charcoal sticks for arthritis, it had to happen
And she drew no more, just sat and watched the dawn
Had a television in the room that she'd never turned on
Lucy pinned up a life worth's of pictures on the wall
And sat and smiled, looked each one over, just to laugh at it all
No Rico, he had passed, 'bout 5 years back
So the visiting hours pulled in a big flock o' nothin
She'd never spoken once throughout the spanning of her life
Until the day she leaned forward, grinned and pulled the nurse aside
And she said:
"Look, I've never had a dream in my life
Because a dream is what you want to do, but still haven't pursued
I knew what I wanted and did it till it was done
So i've been the dream that I wanted to be since day one!"
Well!
The nurse jumped back,
She'd never heard Lucy even talk,
'Specially words like that
She walked over to the door, and pulled it closed behind
Then Lucy blew a kiss to each one of her pictures
And she died.

Yeah, I agree, but people are dumbasses and don't think for themsleves.

>storytelling
garbage.

kendrick is making real radical punk mentality rap now, im sure he considers kanye an uncle tom

>metaphor

extended metaphor through a story

I wonder what kind of music the great Super Dave Osborne likes.
