I think it's their defining album, even if it's not the most mature (that would be Band on the Run). I'd use it to introduce someone to Wings because it's their sound in a nutshell.

I always loved the songwriting on Venus & Mars, but I never liked the production. Jimmy McCulloch's guitar is so low in the mix, it ruins the experience. Wings Over America and Rockshow gave all of those songs a second chance. I can't listen to the album versions of Spirits of Ancient Egypt, You Gave Me The Answer, or Magneto & Titanium Man at all. Those are some of the best songs on Wings Over America.
