The thing is, it's no easier for them to negotiate global distribution for Hollywood movies than it is for them to do so for anyone else's. International media distribution is governed by a variety of license-holders and subsidiaries, who may not want Netflix to have access to a particular movie or TV show they have the rights to, because they have their own plans.

The theater experience is more than just the size of the room and the mega speakers and stuff. The fact that you got your ass out of your house, forked over a bit of money, and are watching a movie with no pause button makes a real difference. On screens today they always have a feeling of information distributors because you can always pull up a menu or something in front of the movie. In theaters the screen feels like a window to another world. I've never had that experience elsewhere.
