I am Roman Catholic but i believe in gay rights, abortion and the option to die if terminally ill. I am having a really hard time believing god or jesus are really going to care that i disagree with like 3 things. But i got tons of Catholics telling me those personal beliefs are unforgivable, but im pretty that nigga up there gave me free will for a reason. I choose to follow them even though i have some disagreements. That's all that should matter.

What do other Roman Catholics here think?

Heretic, faggot, deceiving yourself

Well, I'm Anglican, but relatively similar. I hold pretty much the same views as you. My only difference in opinion is that the mother should probably be in a life threatening situation requiring the abortion, but thats just me. You've got the right philosophy about free will at the very least

I like Anglican. The only thing i disagree on with them is that priests are allowed to reveal your confession

Yeah I don't see why they'd give a shit. No one on earth can believe every last thing they are told

God doesn't exist, bubble smashed, thank me later.

Holy dubs.

bro im catholic too. trust me god is okay and forgiving with that as long as you live a good life

What's even the point of being a Catholic if you don't believe in central beliefs of Catholicism?

We do believe in the central beliefs. These are just smaller points made in the good book. But we mass, we confess our sins, we recieve Communion when we have been absolved of our sins on Saturday. We follow all ten commandments, and we accept jesus.
This is just minor shit OP is struggling with

That's how i feel. I repent and all the shit, i just disagree with a couple things that come out of the Vatican. You should see what some of these crazy mf like Jehovahs say to me

Because no one is going to agree with 100% of someone's beliefs ever, especially not 1.3 billion people, there's no way they all agree 100% with eachother. It's just not human.

...

nice hitler dubs

I dig pope franky an awful lot but the church remains staunchly conservative. Anytime I argue against leviticus or corinthians the discussion always devolves into whether or not the whole bible is divinely inspired or just the actual word of christ. Always remember, one of the things Jesus did say was that eventually everyone has to stand before God and be judged. I don't worship a God that would damn a good person for being gay but a lot of Christians do.
Feels bad man.

I meant the protection of Church teachings from error, OP's problems are manifestations of this error. Belief that correct interpretation of faith is protected by Holy Spirit when a pope uses ex cathedra or a council is called is one of the most important things in Catholicism, this is where it differs from other Christian denominations.

If you willfully and consciously abandon any teaching believed to be infallibly true, then there are only a few explanations.

First one is that you believe that the dogmas aren't protected from falsehood - and if they aren't, why are you a Catholic?

Second one, you believe they are true - in this case, you think you know better than God, which is obviously false.

>Roman Catholic
>believes that fag rights, killing kids and suicide are not leading to hell

I used to be Catholic but the pope is a fucking faggot so now I'm eastern orthodox

Aetheist here, start preaching make some dough try to change the church from the inside

To be fair, no-one is damned for simply being gay. They're damned for having gay sex. Two different things.

Former Catholic here.

It's a good thing that you're thinking for yourself rather than parroting back the subjective morality that gets spewed at you, but that raises the question of why you still cling to your beliefs considering how inherently flawed they are.

If you still consider yourself a man of the faith, then you shouldn't be questioning these things. The point of having rules isn't to pick and choose which ones you want to follow--you have to follow all of them, and if they don't make sense to you, you're supposed to accept that "God works in mysterious ways" and follow his will anyway. That's what faith is.

Well those things OP mentioned isn't even mentioned in KJV. The Vatican made that shit up. The dogmas in that bible still don't mention the above 3 points.
So he's alright with God's word, but not 12 old virgins in Rome

If your religion requires you to hate someone else, then you need a new religion.

Then why the fuck is he Catholic, not Protestant?

They're damned for "homosexual actions," which not only includes gay sex, but gay thoughts and desires.

That being said, lust is also considered a grave sin. As a former Catholic with a very strict church, this made my puberty a complete hell and made me shit my pants with fear everyday, because I couldn't (and still can't, for that matter) stop thinking about girls.

It also raises the question of why the church is so hard on gays, when essentially being straight is also a sin.

did he give you free will though?
perhaps
but on the other hand many claim there is a divine plan. In this case, your prayer and hoping and will means nothing. So what's right?

But I believe in everything except these 3. And im not even committing any of these. But i think that we aren't god and we shouldn't lay judgment on others lifestyle. I think that's fair.
But i do think we shouldn't steal, eat pig, cheat, murder, and we should confess our sins. Out of over 9000 things Roman Catholics believe, i disagree with 3 that have nothing do with me, or affect my life.
I see it as, a couple old faggots in Rome are ruining it for the rest of of us and the Bible says nothing about this crap.
This is why i cling to my faith, it's not gods ideas that are whack, it's some old yurocucks

Everyone sins, that's why Jesus had to die for you. So long as you follow the Christ, you're not automatically damned just for sinning.

This. Alot of Catholics even forget this part, even tho it's the damn foundation of the religion

Another former catholic here.

Find your own way in the religion. The bible was written in older times and is for a lot of things no longer relevant. If you compare the seemlingly stupid rules in the bible with how it was back in the day, you'll see they used to have the purpose to keep you safe in life rather than giving you a spot in heaven.

Pork, for example, now gets properly cooked so it's safe.
We have antibiotics so rectal tears through sodemy are no longer dangerous.
No sex until marriage prevents widespread STD's, which we now have medicine for. Same for 'rapist has to marry the victim or die' or even mixing fabrics (rash).

Remember that you are an individual with your own opinions. I am not at all asking you to reject your faith, but always question everything if it doesn't make sense to you. Doing so either gives you answers for or against the way you believe.

You seem to have a pretty healthy mindset for a Catholic, so props to you.

But why are those the only three things you take issue with?
What's wrong with eating pig?
>I see it as, a couple old faggots in Rome are ruining it for the rest of of us and the Bible says nothing about this crap.
>This is why i cling to my faith, it's not gods ideas that are whack, it's some old yurocucks

The bible was written by men, not any god.
Yes, "the Bible says nothing about this crap" but what about the crap the bible does say? Do you believe men should be condemned for shaving their faces? Women for cutting their hair? Do you think the sun revolves around the Earth and not the other way around?
Not to mention the fact biblical literalism is also technically impossible to follow, considering that the bible is known to contradict itself.

same guy, but I wanna add to something:

Even if the bible is the word of god, it's written by men. God doesn't update the bible while he honestly really should publish a revised edition.

go atheist op... less pain

I'm christian but believe in all those things as well. I'm sure what ever God is, is far beyond our comprehension.

That's why only Gods judgement matters. Plus like I said I'm a Christian. I follow what Christ taught...he never said anything about homosex.

Ok good points here. I guess I disagree with alot of shit.
I left this religion for 8 years to learn what's outside it. I came back because there was something burning inside me telling me to go back. I came back with new knowledge but i still feel at home here.
I learned religion isn't literal and was never meant to be. I still feel Roman Catholic it's very strange and i guess I can't explain it..

Haha yeah i know man. I think there's just some complete nutjobs in my religion that got in my head and made me question who i was, but they are minority I think. I might be a more common breed of Catholic than i think

I believe gay rights, abortion and the option to die if terminally ill are all wrong.

But you're good in my book. I disagree with some canonical beliefs of the religion too.
The people that say your personal beliefs are unforgivable are utter faggots.

Religion is a guideline, not a manual.

It sounds like you've reached a point where your personal perspective differs enough that most wouldn't consider your beliefs to be very Catholic, but Catholicism has also given you a sense of identity.

When I personally broke away from the church's bullshit, that identity wasn't something I personally was able to sustain, but if clinging to that gives you a sense of belonging, then it's something I envy you for.
Not necessarily admirable, from a logical point of view at least, but enviable.

If the faith gives you purpose, meaning, and connection with people, then by all means stay in it, but realize that to a certain extent that your questions about being compassionate, rational, and accepting of those that your faith condemns won't be given satisfactory answers.

Right? If less people took it literal it probably wouldn't be losing as much popularity.
I feel that god didn't give me freewill for no reason right?
I live well and do good, i just think a little different

I am Roman Catholic... stopped right there

I don't think it's just a place to belong, I don't need anything to validate me.
But the 8 years i spent away from the religion, i always caught myself referencing it, and even saying thank you to the sky when I reached a new milestone in life.
I just went back to church a week ago, figured something was telling me to all these years i abandoned it

>Roman Catholic
>believe in gay rights, abortion and the option to die if terminally ill

You fucking heretic you can't be both

The Catholic Church is known to be very strict when it comes to sexuality.

Obviously, if you agreed with and followed everything the church told you, you wouldn't be on a site that has so much porn on it.

But how much do you disagree with the church on matters of sex?

I disagree with promiscuity and adultery, the church got those right

>Cheated on a girl and got charged for shit I didn't do cuz she was mad at me

>Banged alot of women and i got herpes

These things I definitely agree with the church on thanks to personal experience

HERESY!!!!!

Not OP, but why not?

Is believing there's some advantages to free market and being a communist mutually exclusive?
No it isn't.

It's the same deal here.

Stop talking in extremes and start thinking. World isn't all black and white.

Satan is lurking this thread. What does that tell you?

>I am Roman Catholic
culturally yes, but not spiritually

Fair enough.

That particular feeling isn't something I can relate to, so I can't comment on it.

You're keeping an open mind, and that's good.

I kind of agree that you won't get satisfactory answers within the church for the questions you have, so I feel like you would need to accept that.

The way that many Christian faiths are presented, particularly Catholicism, is that not believing in certain aspects they push on you is a very grave sin that can warrant you going to hell.

The world isn't black and white, but many religions would disagree.

That's actually a myth atheists tell.
catholic.org/news/hf/faith/story.php?id=51077

Stay true to your believes, He will apriciate it.

Well, I am a Roman Catholic.

And I'd argue the presentation you speaking of is overexaggerated.
Many believers, including priests, disagree with Vatican on many matters. The more controversial the issue, the more leeway and tolerance allowed.
What Vatican says is just a guideline if you're confused and don't know what to believe.

Catholicism recognizes religion mustn't impede personal development, and questioning, doubts and disagreements are all inseparable part of that.

>The world isn't black and white, but many religions would disagree.
I'm sure many religions would disagree, some doctrines are extremely hellbent on preservation of the rules, but Roman Catholicism is not of the sort.
Biggest testimony for that I can come up on a whim is that everyone has the freedom to come and go as they please:
Don't like it? You're free to go, but don't forget you can always come back and we'll welcome you with open arms - regardless if you disagree on some points or not - you're still a brother.

This, you know how many gay priests there are?! There was actually a large group of gay priests asking the Vatican to change it's views on that

>Dont like it? You're free to go, just know you can always come back and welcomed with open arms.
I really felt this when i went back, and i went back with some liberal ass views

>central beliefs of Catholicism?
Have you not seen their pope? Catholics aren't Christians anymore.

live good, hurt no one, don't be evil,
you should be your own worst judge. Because you know yourself more than anyone else.

zealots are lost.
god comes from within.
listen there.

>priests are allowed to reveal your confession
In certain circumstances like the police asking or just straight up gossip?

>There was actually a large group of gay priests asking the Vatican to change it's views on that
Have they changed?

That's cool that your churches were relatively tolerant, but all the Catholics I've known personally were all hellfire and brimstone

What is going on in that picture?

Do you know what people what people as you are called? Heretics! Pray for guidance and to be shown the light, there is hope for all of us, just stay true if you can.

The police asking. The Vatican will fly a priest to safety just to avoid him breaking his seal. Anglican priests will tell police

Roman Catholic here. if God is all loving as we say he is then:
he wouldn't require us to worship him - making people worship you is kind of dickish
he wouldn't make it a sin not to go to church every work that just some bullshit Romans came up with

Protestants have no tradition, no rules, and a bible that they change like every year. It's hardly believable

I know you're just baiting, but I'll answer honestly regardless, because this is the thread for it:
If that's your only view on the matter then I recommend doing more research.

Priests' abuse of power is a blow not taken lightly, and we're all suffering consequences of the outrage media made it to be (correctly so, too, God bless the journalists that brought it to light).
But to claim this is a defining factor of a religion is a sign of ignorance on a level bordering denial - hence my initial recommendation to dig deeper and not suffer the bias of having just one strong influence on your opinion.

Fuckin Jehovah's witnesses think they are Catholic. You might not have met a Roman Catholic

I think you linked the wrong user

God is definitely on this thread. Look at them dubs
