Barter 6
maybe the best New York boom-bap record of all time.
For good east coast from the same time period
gang starr - moment of truth
smiff n wessun - dah shinin
heltah skeltah - nocturnal
mobb deep - the infamous
big pun - capital punishment
wu tang - 36 chambers (also gravediggaz 6 ft deep, raekwon's cuban lynx and gza's liquid swords)
black moon - enta da stage
jay Z - blueprint
and more nas records
you seriously need help navigating 90s New York Rap? Mobb Deep, there you go, off the dome.
I second this. This shit had my jaw on the floor when I first heard it.
I'm listening to this now, how did I do? Post more recs I will save all of your recs you lovely people
Das EFX

how much rap have you listened to before this?
a bit
i listened through all of kendricks and kanyes stuff just before
trying to get into the real patrician stuff now

the records people are recommending here is classic stuff that deserves your attention, but remember New York boom-bap is just one style of rap that only covers a fraction of the great rap music out there.
just as much greatness to be found digging into other regions/other styles.
I am open to all kinds of suggestions my man
I have heard some UK rap I REALLY liked
All of these are based
if you widen the scope of what you're asking for from NY stuff to just "great rap albums" we could be here all day, cause there's hundreds if not thousands of albums people could hit you with.
rap music is good as hell, is what i'm trying to say.
I don't have anywhere I need to be
Well, It Was Written was pretty spectacular in its own right.
My favorite from these artists would be recommended:
De La: Buhloone Mindstate
Tribe: Low End
Mobb Deep: Hell on Earth
Wu: 36 Chambers
Pete Rock and CL Smooth: Mecc and the Soul Brother
Common: Resurrection
Black Moon: Enta Da Stage
Gangstarr: Hard To Earn
KRS-One: Return of The Boom Bap
Digable Planets: Blowout Comb
Masta Ace: Disposable Arts
Outkast: Aquemini
JayElectronica: Pre Act 2 Greatest Hits (bootleg)
I'm sure im forgetting a ton of greatness but im outta time. Enjoy!
y'all sleepin on tha south
Only Built For Cuban Linx
Nas is a style Jacker
I like Blowout Comb but he should probably start with Rebirth of Slick first.
This is a NY thread, one region at a time (except Outkast).
anything made by j dilla is good. wu tang is probably the most intelligent group out there. bun b and pimp c, shit 3 6 mafia too is worth a listen. paul wall is good, so is project pat. chitown was all about memphis, and houston rap before drill music. bone thugs n harmony is aight. shit icould go on, but ill leave it hear for now.
Big L senpai
of course i forget dj screw when talkin bout houston. my bad. rap culture since 2004 has been all about that dirty south culture
...
>the real patrician stuff
...
Listened to this album 3 times and it's the most over-rated piece of shit ever.
"b-but he's b-black and had a real rough life bro!"
Dumb nigger makes monkey music, incredible. Nas is a hack and anyone who enjoys this album is a BBC loving retard.
What do you consider good music?
I like most Sup Forums endorsed stuff but Illmatic bores me to death and I don't find anything about it appealing.
Do you enjoy any 90s hiphop records?
STILLmatic obviously
>illadelph halflife and things fall apart.
these are two of the most comfy albums for me.
GKMC
Anything from Kanye pre Yeezus - start from earliest go to finish
Freddie Gibbs - The Miseducation of Freddie Gibbs
Outkast - Stankonia
and Stillmatic by Nas - not nearly as good but worth a listen and it has Ether on it which is about Jay-z
Go away
its literally the best rap album ever made you fucking dingust
forgot to mention
The Slim Shady LP
The Marshall Mathers LP
Danny Brown - XXX and The Hybrid
Just listen to It Was Written then Stillmatic.
I think 94-96 has to be the best 3 year stretch in hip-hop history.
For sure, includes most of the really good Nas, Boot camp clik, gang starr, wutang and just in general west coast releases
Was gonna post these other ones but shit came up.
...
Yeah you're a pleb.
Back to your cuckshed asap
Is there one for the 80s? I've really started enjoying old school Def Jam releases and want to broaden my horizons.
